Chapter 1

--AVA--

"Get out of my way," Liliah, the head maid, said to me in a harsh tone.

I had always been looked down upon and considered a burden. My name is Ava. I was abandoned by my parents when I was just four years old, and I still don't know why. I was told I was a nuisance, which was why I was abandoned. I vaguely remember having two brothers, but I can't recall their faces.

They said I was abandoned in front of the pack, and ever since then, people have treated me terribly. I wasn't meant to be an omega working in the kitchen, but the alpha and his daughter Mia, along with some other members of the pack, forced me to work there.

I have been bullied by people, which has caused me to develop anxiety attacks over the years and become withdrawn. I only speak to Mrs. Williams.

"Clean that plate for the alpha, Ava," Mia, the alpha's daughter, ordered me.

I simply nodded, grateful that my wolf, Aliana, was always there to support me.

"Just do it, Ava. You don't want to receive a beating from her," Aliana warned me through mind link.

Yes, Mia and her friends would beat me for no reason, and nobody seemed to care. I hoped that this would all come to an end someday.

I handed Mia the washed plate which she snatched out of my hand.

"Leave my sight, you imbecile," she said, and then walked out of the kitchen.

I was relieved that the day was finally over. I turned off the kitchen light and descended the basement stairs. I wasn't allowed to sleep in the omega's quarters; Mia had assigned me the basement. Mia had always despised me. I used to sleep in the omega's quarters, but one day I returned to find all my belongings packed in the basement.

I opened the worn-out door and entered the place that had been my room for the past three years this was what I called home.

"Everything will be alright, Ava," Aliana reassured me through mind link.

"Why do you always say that, Aliana? I have been here since I was four, and the situation keeps getting worse every day," I said tearfully remembering what I have been through.

"Look behind you, there's a rat," Aliana said, trying to lighten the mood.

"I am not scared of them anymore," I replied, and she laughed.

I remembered when I first came to the basement. I couldn't sleep for days because there were rats everywhere. I had to lay the only cloth I had on the floor to get some rest, as I had to wake up at five in the morning to help in the kitchen.

"Good night, Aliana," I mind-linked her.

"Good night," she said, and then she was gone.

I woke up from my worn-out bed and reluctantly entered the dilapidated bathroom. Taking a quick shower, I put on one of the dresses that Mrs. Williams had given me. She was a kind lady who often provided me with dresses, and today was one of my rare days off. Mrs. Williams had made sure of that, as she believed that all omegas deserved a day of rest and I was not also one so I needed one.

I used to be happy when I was granted a day off. I would spend the day at Mrs. Williams' cottage, where she would tend to my wounds from the beatings I received from Mia and her minions. I loved her deeply for her kindness. I closed my door and climbed up the stairs to start my day.

As usual, the kitchen was empty when I entered. I didn't mind, as I began gathering ingredients to prepare breakfast. Cooking was my passion, and I was grateful for the opportunity to do what I loved. I was so engrossed in what I was doing and did not even hear Roxanne and Michelle come in.

"I told you Ava would be done by the time we got here," Roxanne said to her friend Michelle, who nodded in agreement.

I simply looked at them and turned away, as I never spoke to anyone in this place.

"Hurry up, you dumb girl. Breakfast needs to be served," Liliah, the head maid, barked at me.

I quickly left the kitchen to serve breakfast to everyone who was already seated. I despised the gamma's son, who often stared at me with a malicious intent. He had attempted to r*p* me when I was only sixteen, but thankfully, Mia had come to my rescue. Despite her usual cruelty towards me, I was grateful to her for that.

I couldn't help but notice his leering gaze, which filled me with fear. Since that traumatic incident, I had developed a fear of being near men. I hastily placed the breakfast on the table and hurriedly left the room without turning to look back.

In a few days, I would be turning eighteen, and I still hadn't met my mate. Part of me felt relieved, as I doubted my ability to overcome my fear and be close to someone intimately.

For lunch and dinner, the family would be dining out, and Liliah informed us that we could rest. I was thrilled at the thought of leaving, but just as I was about to walk out, Liliah called my name.

"Ava, not you," she said with a stern tone. "Come and wash these vegetables before you go. Make sure you wash them thoroughly."

I reluctantly returned to the kitchen to carry out the assigned task.

"I will be in my room. Finish before you leave," Liliah said, and left.

Once I was done washing the vegetables and storing them in the fridge, I knew I was free to go. I walked out the door and headed towards Mrs. Williams' cottage, which was just a five-minute walk from the alpha's house. I knocked on the door, and she greeted me with a warm smile, inviting me inside.

"Hello Ava. What brings you for a visit?" she asked, opening the door wide for me to enter.

"They gave us the day off because the alpha and his people won't be dining at the house," I explained to her as I entered the homely room.

"Oh, yes. The alpha king will be arriving in three days for the annual moon goddess ball, so they're making sure everything is in order," she said.

"You didn't know, Ava?" she asked with a surprise look on her face.

"No," I murmured.

"Well, now you do," she said with excitement. "I've actually made a dress for you. Come, let's try it on."

I always felt thrilled when Ms. Williams made me a dress because I could not afford one.

"Really?" I asked eagerly.

"Yes, let's go to my workshop," she said, leading me to her sewing room.

"Here, try it on," she said, handing me a beautiful gold dress adorned with glitter.

"No, Mrs. Williams, this is the same kind of dress the other girls wear. I cannot be seen wearing this," I said, handing the dress back to her because I was scared.

"Yes, I know, but on the day of the ball, no one can tell you not to wear it," she said with a smile.

"Which ball?" I muttered.

"Oh, I see those jealous rascals have left you in the dark," she said, angrily twitching her mouth.

"You see, the king of werewolves has chosen to come to this pack for the annual Moon Goddess Ball held every year, and he says that everyone must attend the ball," she explained to me with a smile.

"Really?" I said to her, and she nodded.

"Yes," she confirmed.

"That means I can go," I said to her, and she nodded.

"That is why I sewed this dress for you," she said which made me stare back at the beauty.

I had never attended any of the annual balls organized in the Riverdale Pack, so I was thrilled. I would finally get to experience what a ball feels like.

"When is the ball, Mrs. Williams?" I asked her, as I looked at the beautiful dress in my hand.

"Two days from now," she replied.

"Would you like to do my makeup?" I asked her.

"Yes, dear," she said.

"But first, go and try this dress on so we can see," she said with a smile.

I went behind the curtain, stripped out of my dress, and put on the gold dress. The cleavage part was deep, and my cleavage was showing. I didn't feel entirely comfortable with it, but I was grateful for the opportunity. I didn't know I had such curves. I walked out to show Mrs. Williams.

"You look pretty, Ava," she said.

"Wow, I never knew you had such curves," she exclaimed looking at me.

"Okay, let me keep it here for you, and in two days from now, you can come and get it," she said.

"Okay," I said.

"Have you eaten?" she asked me.

"Yes," I muttered.

"Still, try what I made. Come to the kitchen and see for yourself," she said, and I followed her.

"Try this soup," she said, as she handed me a bowl.

"It tastes nice, Mrs. Williams," I said to her.

"Yes, it does," she said.

"Williams loves it so much. I made it for him, so I wanted to know if it tastes good," she explained with joy.

"Yeah, it does," I said to her smiling.

Chapter 2

--AVA--

"Thank you, Mrs. Williams. I will be leaving," I said to her in her embrace.

"Okay, dear. Let me see you off, and thank you for today," she said to me.

"You're welcome," I replied.

"See you tomorrow, Mrs. Williams," I said to her.

"Bye," I added and she closed her door.

As I made my way back to the Alpha's house, I spotted Simon walking with Emily, one of Mia's minions and known as the pack's "slut". I quickly hid behind a tree to avoid being seen by them. I was scared of them bullying me

After making sure they were gone, I came out from behind the tree and hurried to the pack house. Once I entered my room, I felt relieved. However, my peace was short-lived as I heard a knock on my door. It was Cynthia, an omega who also worked in the kitchen. I smiled at her as I opened the door.

"Ava, you're needed in the kitchen," she said to me.
