Love flourishes unexpectedly in a world ravaged by conflict between humans and werewolves. Ares, a strong werewolf Alpha who watches over his pack, and Elara, a persistent human rebel chief who looks after her community in the inner city, must manage their forbidden love while discovering truths that could stop the war or ruin them.

Chapter 1. Caught in the dark.

Elara crept through the shadows of the crumbling city. She had one goal: gather information on the werewolves' movements.

Each move posed a threat, and every noise carried a possible harm. The remains of the ancient world surrounded her, leftovers of a previously magnificent city now split by conflict.

Silently, she shifted her stance and remained vigilant for any signs of strange behavior in the vicinity. The dense clouds blocked the moonlight, casting eerie shadows on the ground. Elara knew she had to be quick. If she were discovered, there would be no way out.

Out of nowhere, a hand appeared, muffled her mouth, and dragged her into a dim alleyway. She fought, but the hold was too firm. Turning around, she met the gaze of piercing golden eyes belonging to Ares, the intimidating Alpha of the werewolves.

"Human, you are brave to have made it this far," Ares snarled. "What are your objectives?"

Elara's heart pounded. "I'll never tell you."

Ares smirked. "We will wait and see."

He pulled her further into the alley, holding on tightly. Elara struggled to liberate herself. However, Ares proved to be overpowering. He pressed her against the wall, his eyes shining with a threatening gleam.

"What is the reason for your presence?" He asked.

Elara glared at him. "I won't tell you anything."

Ares tightened his grip on her arm. "You will talk, human. One way or another."

Elara spat at him. "Go to hell."

Ares cleaned his face, his eyes filled with rage. "You are unaware of the person you are provoking."

Elara countered, "You have no clue about my abilities."

Ares' expression hardened. He moved closer, his warm breath brushing against her ear. "You are now in my domain. I have full control over you."

Elara's heart was pounding, yet she was determined not to display any fear. "Then do your worst."

Ares gazed at her briefly before letting go. "Fine. Let's find out how enduring your courage is."

He took hold of her wrist and began pulling her down the alley. Elara tried to resist, but Ares was too strong. He took her to a deserted building and pushed her in.

The room was dim and chilly. Elara stumbled but caught herself before she fell. She turned to face Ares, her eyes blazing with defiance.

She demanded, "What are you looking for from me?"

Ares shut the door after him, cutting off her sole means of getting out. "Information. I want to know what your people are planning."

Elara crossed her arms over her chest. "Why should I disclose that information to you?"

"If you refuse, I will make your life unbearable" Ares threatened with a menacing tone.

Elara lifted her chin. "You can try."

Ares moved nearer, squinting his eyes. "You don't know the extent of my abilities."

"And you have no clue about the extent of my willingness to suffer," Elara retorted.

Ares growled in frustration. "You're testing my patience, human."

"Good," Elara said. "Because I'm not giving you anything."

Ares looked at her, his gaze showing anger and perhaps even respect. He nodded his head, attempting to banish the thought from his mind.

"Illogical," he remarked. "But you're brave. I'll give you that."

Elara didn't respond. She knew she had to stay strong. She couldn't let Ares break her.

Ares paced the room, his frustration evident. "Why do you fight for them?" he asked suddenly.

Elara frowned. "What?"

"Your people. Why do you fight for them?" Ares repeated. "They sent you on this mission knowing you could die. Do they care about you at all?"

Elara's eyes narrowed. "They care. We care about each other. That's why I fight."

Ares ceased his pacing and directed his gaze towards her. "What if I said everything you think is true is false?"

Elara shook her head. "I wouldn't believe you."

"Why not?" Ares pressed. "What if your leaders are using you? What if they're the real enemy?"

"You're trying to manipulate me," Elara said, her voice steady. "It won't work."

Ares sighed. "You're stubborn. I'll give you that."

Elara didn't respond. She observed Ares approaching her again, his facial expression impossible to decipher.

"you believe you are battling for a righteous purpose," he said. "But you are simply a piece in their strategy."

"And what about you?" Elara shot back. "You're the one leading an army of werewolves. You're the one causing destruction."

"I'm trying to protect my people," Ares said. "Just like you."

Elara stared at him, surprised by his words. "Protect them? By terrorizing us?"

Ares' eyes flashed. "It's not that simple."

"Then explain it to me," Elara challenged.

Ares hesitated, then shook his head. "You wouldn't understand."

"Try me," Elara said.

Ares looked at her for a long moment, then turned away. "It's complicated."

Elara took a step closer. "I'm listening."

Ares sighed. "My people are being hunted. We're fighting for our survival."

"And you think attacking us will help?" Elara asked.

Ares turned to face her, his eyes filled with pain. "We've tried peaceful negotiations. Your leaders don't want peace. They want to wipe us out."

Elara frowned. "That is impossible."

"That's true," Ares confirmed. "We've lost so many because of your people. We're just trying to survive."

Elara shook her head. "There has to be another way."

Ares stared at her. "Maybe there is. But it won't happen if we keep fighting."

Elara was unsure of what to say. She had always viewed the werewolves as adversaries, but listening to Ares' perspective made her reconsider everything.

Ares took a step closer. "You can help us, Human. You can make a difference."

Elara's heart pounded. "And what if I refuse?"

Ares' expression hardened. "Then you'll leave me no choice."

Elara swallowed hard. "I won't betray my people."

Ares' eyes darkened. “Prepare yourself for what is going to occur”

He suddenly exited the room, slamming the door behind him. Elara found herself alone in the darkness, her thoughts moving quickly. She couldn't have faith in Ares, yet his words had sown uncertainty. She needed to figure out a solution to escape from this situation.

As time went by, Elara's thoughts became increasingly desperate. She needed to escape, to warn her people about Ares and his plans. But how?

The door creaked open again, and Ares stepped inside, his expression grim. "Have you made your decision?"

Elara stood tall. "I won't help you."

Ares sighed. "I feared you would respond in that manner"

He put his hand in his pocket and retrieved a compact gadget. "This is a human tracker. If you refuse to cooperate with me, I will use it to locate your people.  I'll make them suffer for your defiance."

Elara's blood ran cold. "You wouldn't."

"Try me," Ares said, his eyes cold and determined.

Elara's mind raced. How could she stop him? That was the question she needed to figure out.

Ares moved nearer, gazing into her eyes. "You have one last chance, human. Help us, or watch your people suffer."

Elara clenched her fists, her mind racing. She was unable to allow him to be victorious. She had to devise a strategy to outsmart him in his own game.

"Okay," she eventually stated. "I'll help you."

Ares raised an eyebrow. "Really?"

"Yes," Elara said. "But on one condition."

"And what's that?" Ares asked.

"You let me go," Elara said. "I need to see my people. I need to make sure they're safe."

Ares studied her for a moment, then nodded. "Deal."

As Ares approached her, Elara's heart raced, his eyes fixed on hers without wavering. He reached out his arm and caught hold of her hand, holding it tightly but gently.

He cautioned, "Don't make me feel sorry for what I've done."

Elara nodded. "I won't."

Ares led her out of the room and into the night. Elara's thoughts raced as she attempted to devise a plan. She needed to figure out how to alert her community without turning against them.

While roaming through the deserted city, Elara couldn’t rid herself of the suspicion that she had been led to a trap. She had to stay alert and ready for any circumstance.

They arrived at the city's boundary, and Ares halted, pivoting to confront her. "This is where we go our separate ways."

Elara nodded, her heart pounding. "Thank you."

Ares' eyes softened. "Be careful, human. The world is a dangerous place."

"I will," Elara said.

Ares observed her departure with an inscrutable expression. Elara's thoughts raced while she attempted to formulate a strategy. She needed to figure out how to alert her community without being disloyal to them.

While walking through the night, Elara couldn't rid herself of the sensation that she was being observed. She had to stay alert and ready for any circumstance.

Suddenly, a shadow appeared from the dark, blocking her path. Elara's heart started beating faster when she saw the recognizable face.

"Human," the figure said, his voice cold and menacing. "Did you think you could escape?"

Elara's blood ran cold as she realized who it was. "No," she whispered. "It can't be."

As the figure stepped closer with his eyes glowing with a menacing light, werewolf pack warriors emerged out of nowhere from the darkness. "Welcome back, human. We've been waiting for you."

Elara felt her heart racing when she understood she was unable to escape. She needed to discover an escape route to alert her community before it was too late.

However, when they drew closer, Elara realized she had run out of time. The trap was triggered, and there was no way out.

Chapter 2. The Interrogation

Elara was in a poorly lit room, her hands tightly tied with rough rope. The walls were empty and frigid, with only one flickering lightbulb suspended from above.

She could hear the faint sounds of the urban area, the muted growls and yells of werewolves blending with the sporadic faraway gunfire. She hurriedly brainstormed a new escape strategy in her mind.

Ares in his werewolf form confronted her, arms folded, and his sharp golden eyes locked onto her. He emitted a presence of command and strength, indicating that he should not be underestimated.

"I warned you that the world can be a dangerous environment. You thought you could escape so easily huh? Who sent you?" he demanded, his voice a low growl.

Elara met his gaze with defiance. "No one," she spat back.

Ares' eyes narrowed. "Lies won't help you, human."

Elara's jaw tightened. "I am not counting on help from a monster"

Ares experienced a glimmer of emotion - perhaps admiration?- while
