WARNING: THIS IS A SLOW BURN ROMANCE NOVEL WHERE THE CHARACTERS LIFE START FROM THEIR CHILDHOOD ---- After having rejected her mate Dimitri’s heart was ripped out from her chest, and in her moment of end, she could see the horror and defeat in Krisen's eyes with her life choices flashing before her eyes. Why did she never notice it was him? That it had always been him loving her, protecting her, and waiting for her. She was so foolish and naïve to see and feel his warmth. Now, all she did was become a chess piece in a game she did not know the movements. With a heart wrenching cry, she looked to the moon and said a prayer in her desperation to any god willing to hear and answer her; to bring her back again so she could reign vengeance on those who had used her as a chess piece in their cruel game of power.
Prologue
Dimitri’s thoughts were muddled like someone who was under a spell as she kept on walking towards the forest; not stopping to even think for a moment.
‘You have to reject Krisen, Dimitri. He only wants you to accept him so he can become more powerful. When he is done using you, he will get rid of you and hook up with Elena. Can’t you see how close they are?’ Suban’s voice sounded in her mind.
She wiped off a tear that slipped from her eye. “You have to be strong, Dimi,” she said to herself; knowing how much she was starting to like Krisen.
She had assumed his persistent display of affections were because he truly cared for her, but now that Suban had finally cleared the air aboutKrisen’saffectiontowards her, she was finally sane.
A chilly wind blew, causing Dimitri to shiver.
“Why did you hurt me like this?” her voice broke immediately she spotted Krisen.
Krisen frowned when he saw Dimitri’s face stained with tears, “Hurt you? What do you mean?” he asked with a concerned tone.
The tears that stained Dimitri’s face made his heart feel stuffy.
He moved to console her, but Dimitri retracted her steps; creating a good distance between them.
“What is it this time? Why did you call me here?” sheasked impatiently.
She wanted to sound bold, and only by increasing her tone did she feel strong enough to hold themore tears that were threatening to spill out from her eyes.
Seeing Krisen’s face squeeze in confusion, she was sure he wanted to guilt trip her with his sweet words again like he always does.
Dimitri stretched out a little smile, “You don’t need to remind me about the so called mate bond anymore, I know what it means by now.” she snorted.
Krisen’s face showed relief; he was finally excited that Dimitri had come to terms with the mate bond.
After holding his wolf from marking and claiming her all these months, he would finally have her all to himself.
When Dimitri saw the look of relief on Krisen’s face, she felt worse.
“You really are unbelievable.”
Krisen brow knotted in confusion; not understanding how he was unbelievable.
Was she referring to his energy in chasing her all these while?
He chuckled, “Well, it has to be you. We are mates after all,” he stretched out a smile; feeling rather proud of his achievements.
Dimitri let out a breathy laugh, “Suban was right, after all,” She said; feeling disappointed and heartbroken.
Krisen smiled widely, oblivious to the sadness in Dimitri’s eyes. “Of course he is always right. Although I don’t like the fact that he is closer to you than I am, he is my good friend and I am sure he knows what to do and what not to do.”
As Dimitri watched Krisen speak, her heart felt very tired, and just like Suban had directed her, she repeated those same words in front of Krisen.
“I, Dimitri Saw, rejects you, KrisenHono, as my mate.” Her words rang out as it stabbed straight into Krisen’s heart.
In the blink of an eye, Krisen groaned out in pain as he fell to his knees, holding his chest tightly.
The pain he was feeling was unbearable!
“Why… why did you… do that?” he squeezed out the words as blood filled his mouth.
Unlike other werewolves, Krisen was dependent on his destined mate.
Seeing Krisen in such a state, Dimitri fell into disarray as she stared at his struggling figure.
“What… what is happening to you?” she stammered; notunderstanding anything that was happening.
Her eyes were moving to and fro in confusion as her body remained frozen on a spot.
The blood that filled Krisen’s mouth scared her.
Krisen’s hold on his chest tightened like he was trying to squeeze out the pain. It was as if a thousand knives were being pierced through his heart over and over again.
Dimitri’s face grew pale as she rushed towards Krisen. “I… help! Somebody help!” her voice trembled as she screamed.
Her tears started to flow as fear gripped her. She never wanted this to happen, Suban never told her there was going to be blood.
“How… what is happening to you?” she cried out as she tried pulling Krisen’s body up, hoping to carry him, but he was too heavy.
Just as she succeeded in pulling his arm, she fell to the ground.
“What is wrong with him?” a voice rang out amidst her struggles.
Dimitri’s head snapped up and she felt a little relieved.
“Suban, quickly hurry, we have to save Krisen.” She sniffled, moving to lift Krisen who was barely breathing again.
Noticing that she was the only one making an effort to save Krisen, Dimitri looked at Suban, wanting to scold him for his sluggishness, but rather than a friendly face,Suban’s face became sinister as he stretched out a devilish smile.
“Su… Suban, what are you doing?” Dimitri became alarmed as she him draw out a silver blade sword, pointing it in front of her face.
Dimitri felt her breathe seize as fear coursed through her body. She dragged her butt on the ground, retreating from the pointy edge of the sword, and hoping to get away, but rather than withdrawing it, Suban kept on approaching her with intimidating streps.
Suban’s eyes moved to Krisen’s almost lifeless body, and a malicious glint passed through his eyes.
“You killed the Alpha’s son,” he coldly stated.
Dimitri panicked, “No, I didn’t, I… I don’t know what happened. You… you have to believe me, Suban,” she stammered, pleading desperately.
Suban chuckled darkly, “Of course you wouldn’t know what happened, darling Dimitri.”
He smirked, “Unlike the rest of us, Krisen needs his mate. Once he finds his mate, according to the seer, he is meant to mark and claim her in order to complete his transformation into a Lycan. It is as the prophecy said.
Sadly, he was too foolish. Waiting for you to love him just like he did you. If only he knew his death would come today.” He ridiculed.
Dimitri’s heart fell as she shook her head slowly in disbelief. “What are you talking about? You said—”
“Of course I said those things. I noticed how you were beginning to like him. You did not expect me to sit back and watch Krisen become even more powerful, did you?” Suban arched a brow as he swung the sword in his hand.
Dimitri’s body froze as she stared at Suban; dumbfounded by the words he just spoke.
“You deceived me,” she whispered out as realization dawned on her.
Sunban laughed maniacally, “No, you were too foolish,” he mocked.
“I will need your heart, by the way. If I eat it, I have a chance of actually turning into a Lycan.” He jested as a menacing glint passed through his eyes.
After waiting patiently for months, he could not believe his plans were actually successful. It was indeed a thing of joy.
“Dimitri,” Krisen’s voice came out like a whisper, barely hanging on. He felt useless as he watched the scene, unable to do anything.
Dimitri sniffled, “I am sorry, Krisen,” her tears just kept pouring.
This was all her fault!
Why was she so stupid?
She had noticed Krisen wasn’t a patient person, but no matter how many times she hurt him with her words, he was always patient with her.
That alone could have shown her how much he truly values her, but no, she was so foolish.
Dimitri felt powerless as she watched Suban, the one person who she had trusted with her life ever since she found herself in this strange place drive a sword through her chest, ripping out her heart.
As tears filled her face, she looked to the sky and cried out to any god willing to hear her prayer.
“I have been wronged, betrayed and casted away. My mate whom I should cherish has been killed because of my naivety. Please, let me be reborn again. I promise to protect and cherish him in my next life.” Her voice was filled with sadness and anger.
A bright lightening struck the sky as a loud thunder sounded, and the last thing she saw was the horror in Krisen’s eyes before the darkness enveloped her completely.
Chapter 1 – No More Tears Left To Cry
Dimitri, a mother of 3 and Grandmother to 5 sat on a chair in front of her grandchildren with a satisfied smile.
“Grandma, father said you lived through our history.”The first grandson said.
“Yes, they did!” They all chorused referring to their respective parents who are Dimitri’s children.
“We would love to hear it from the horse’s mouth (in Africa- used to describe the origin from where a certain knowledge came from).” The first granddaughter spoke with curiosity and anticipation.
Dimitri chuckled, “That is fine.”
She sighed out heavily then began, “What I am about to tell you is a history that I have told your parents too.”
“I urge you all to listen closely and attentively because the only way a story becomes history is when listeners carry it along as facts either in books or in the other stories they tell.”
“Every story has a side, and what I am going to tell you is the side of me and your grandfather.”
Dimitri smiled and continue
