Açıklama

To escape her mother selling her into marriage to settle an unwanted bride price, Laura flees to the city, determined to fight for her own freedom. Desperate for stability, she interviews at Smith Company and crosses paths with Fred Smith, the cold, guarded heir facing an aggressive corporate ultimatum to find a wife or lose his rightful place as CEO. Neither is looking for romance, but both need an escape. Fred proposes a strictly business arrangement: a one-year legal marriage governed by rigid rules. Separate bedrooms, complete independence, zero emotional involvement, and a quiet divorce when time runs out. For Laura, it is an unbreakable legal shield against her family. For Fred, it is a calculated corporate defense. Living under the same roof quickly shatters their tidy boundaries. Sharp arguments and constant clashes give way to undeniable chemistry, mutual respect, and protective instincts neither anticipated. But as corporate rivals plot Fred's downfall and malicious family schemes close in, an even bigger secret comes to light. Laura discovers that the humble road cleaner who raised her took a life-altering truth to his grave: she is the long-lost heiress to a powerful dynasty. With the contract's expiration ticking down, the stranger Laura married to escape her mother becomes the one man she cannot bear to leave. Will their paper agreement survive when the truth about who they really are comes to light?

Chapter 1: The Promise

“Laura, come inside. We need to talk.”

Laura stopped at the doorway. Margaret was sitting at the dining table with a strange expression on her face.

Laura dropped her bag. “I just got back from work. Can it wait until tomorrow?”

“No.” Something in Margaret's voice made Laura pause. “What happened?”

Margaret folded her arms. “I have found you a husband.”

Laura stared at her. “A husband?”

“Frank.”

Laura's face tightened. “I don't want to marry Frank.”

“You haven't even met him properly.”

“I know enough.”

“He is a respectable man. He has money. He can take care of you.”

“I don't need someone to take care of me.”

Margaret laughed bitterly. “Of course. You think you can survive forever with those little jobs.”

Laura swallowed her anger. “I work for myself.”

“And what has working for yourself done for you?” Margaret leaned forward, gesturing around the small, cramped room. “Frank has already paid your bride price.”

Laura froze. It hurt because she knew exactly what Margaret meant. She had spent years working, sending money home, and putting everyone else's needs before her own. Still, somehow, it was never enough.

“You accepted money from him?” Laura's voice shook, but she didn't lower it. “Without asking me?”

“You are my daughter.”

“That doesn't give you the right to sell my future! I will not marry a man because you accepted his money.”

Margaret stood up abruptly, her face hardening. “Watch your mouth. If you refuse, then where will you go? You think the city will save you? You think life will suddenly become easy because you refuse to listen to me?”

Laura picked up her bag, looking directly at her mother. “I don't know what the city will give me. But I know I won't marry someone I don't love.”

Margaret scoffed. “Love?”

Laura turned away. For a moment, she remembered Mr. Sam. His dusty shirt. His tired smile. The way he had always looked at her as though her future was bigger than their circumstances.“Being poor is our situation, Laura. It is not your destiny.”

Those words had carried her through more difficult days than Margaret would ever know.

“I won't give up my life just because we're poor,” Laura said softly.

Margaret's expression twisted. “Your father filled your head with foolish dreams.”

Laura's chest tightened. “Don't talk about Daddy like that.”

“He's gone.”

Laura went silent. That was the cruelest part. Mr. Sam was gone. The only person who had always stood between Laura and the world was no longer there. But his voice remained:Keep going.

“I won't marry Frank,” Laura repeated firmly, and walked out.

Across the city, Fred Smith stood in front of a massive wall of glass overlooking the glittering skyline. His phone rang. He ignored it once, but when it rang a second time, he finally snapped it open.

“What?”

His stepmother's cold voice came through the line. “You have until the end of the month.”

Fred's jaw tightened as he turned away from the window. “For what?”

“You know exactly what. The board wants stability. The family wants a marriage. If you refuse, your appointment to the CEO position can be challenged.”

Fred laughed without humor. “So after everything I've done for this company, I'm being told I need a wife before I can become CEO?”

“You need a family behind you. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can win every battle against this family, Fred.”

The call went dead. Fred placed the phone face-down on his desk. He hated being controlled. He had spent his whole life dealing with a stepmother who treated every decision as a hostile negotiation.

He looked at the corporate documents waiting on his desk. He had three months. That was all the time he had to marry someone acceptable to his family, or he would lose the legacy he had worked his entire life to earn.

Fred snatched up his jacket. “I'm not marrying anyone they choose.”

That evening, Laura stood outside a small downtown café, counting the meager amount of cash left in her purse. Rent, food, transport everything in the city was becoming impossibly expensive.

She closed her eyes against the crisp night air. “Daddy, what would you do?”

“Probably tell you to stop talking to yourself.”

Laura spun around. A man stood just a step behind her, wearing a sharp tailored suit. She frowned defensively. “I wasn't talking to myself.”

He glanced down at her, unimpressed. “You were.”

“And you were listening?”

“Unfortunately.”

Laura rolled her eyes. “Then mind your business.”

The corner of the man's mouth twitched into a ghost of a smile. “Fair enough.”

He brushed past her into the establishment. Laura watched his retreating back for a second before turning away. Neither of them knew who the other was. Neither knew that their lives were about to violently collide.

Inside the café, Fred sat alone at a corner table. His assistant quickly placed a sleek leather folder in front of him.

“The board meeting is tomorrow, sir,” the assistant murmured. “And your stepmother has already started compiling a list of suitable socialite women for you to review.”

Fred closed the folder with a sharp snap. “Find me someone else.”

“Someone else?”

“Someone completely detached from my family circles. I need a wife who owes them nothing.”

Outside, Laura's phone buzzed with another message from her mother:COME HOME. FRANK IS WAITING.

Laura deleted it instantly and looked up at the neon city lights. She had no idea how she was going to escape her mother's traps or build a better life. She certainly had no idea that the literal answer to her prayers was sitting only a few meters away through the glass a powerful stranger looking for a contract bride

Chapter 2: The Stranger

Laura woke up before sunrise.

She had barely slept.

Margaret's words kept replaying in her mind.

Frank has already paid your bride price.

Laura sat on the edge of the bed and rubbed her face.

She couldn't go back.

Not to Frank.

Not to the life Margaret had planned for her.

She picked up her bag and headed for the door.

Evelyn was already awake.

“You're leaving?”

“I have an interview.”

Evelyn looked at her.

“After everything that happened yesterday?”

“Especially because of everything that happened yesterday.”

Evelyn smiled.

“That sounds like the Laura I know.”

Laura grabbed her bag.

“I need this job.”

“You'll get it.”

“And if I don't?”

“Then you try again.”

Laura nodded.

Her father's voice echoed in her mind.

Keep going.

She stepped outside.

At Smith Company, Fred was having a very different morning
