A BREEDER?

CHAPTER 1

VESPERA'S POV

“I think selling her is the perfect idea.”

I froze, my hand flying to my mouth to hide the gasp that threatened to escape. My mother’s voice cut through the silence like a blade.

Sell me?

“Exactly,” my father agreed without hesitation. “It would fetch us a lot of money too.”

It felt like a thorn pierced straight into my chest.

Why? What did I do wrong?

“The Lycan twins need a breeder, and since she’s been nothing but useless since birth, this might be the only way we gain something from her,” my father added.

Tears burned my eyes. I wanted to scream, to ask why my own parents hated me so much. But before I could move, a hand shot out of nowhere and yanked me forward.

I stumbled, my heart stopping when I came face-to-face with Celestia’s smirk. Her green eyes glinted with a mixture of disgust and mischief as she dragged her gaze over me.

“Eavesdropping, huh?” she sneered. “Let’s see what Mother and Father think about this.”

She fisted my hair and yanked hard. Fire spread across my scalp as I whimpered.

I tried breaking free from her trap, but she was clearly stronger.

Celestia barged into our parents’ room, dragging me behind her. The moment our parents saw me, their conversation changed—pretending, lying, but the rage in their eyes betrayed them.

“What are you two up to now? And why are you dragging your sister’s hair?” my mother asked sharply, folding her arms.

My heart hammered so loudly I swore they could hear it.

“Vespera was eavesdropping,” Celestia said smugly.

My mother’s gaze darkened, and my father’s glare could have burned me alive.

“N-no, I—” My words cut off with the sharp crack of a slap across my face. My head whipped sideways, lips splitting as the metallic taste of blood spread across my tongue.

“You bitch!” my mother spat. She grabbed my hair and yanked me down. I screamed as pain shot through me.

“How dare you?” She flung me to the floor like garbage.

Celestia grinned, her expression twisted with delight as I curled on the ground, tears streaming down my cheeks.

“Get out of my sight,” he barked, anger evident in his eyes.

Every bone in my body ached, but I forced myself up. If I didn’t move fast enough, they’d hit me again. My so-called family—my mother, father, and precious Celestia—watched me leave like I was nothing.

Maybe because you're nothing to them. Dawn responded in my head.

A few days after I found out I was an omega, Dawn appeared in my head.

Imagine having a wolf but not being able to shift—such irony. I went straight to the kitchen to make lunch before I was beaten again.

In the kitchen, I sniffled as I gathered ingredients, pain stabbing with every breath. I wanted to tend my wounds, but I knew better.

"How can they treat you like this?" My wolf, Dawn, growled inside me, her voice sharp with fury.

“They’re our parents,” I whispered back, forcing calm into my voice. “And besides, we have nowhere else to go,” I said, reminding myself again.

They’re monsters; I'd take my chances with the rogues,” she snapped.

“Rogues? We can’t even shift,” I snapped back at her.

Dawn has always made it clear how much she hated my family, and I can't say I don't see the reason, but there's nowhere I can run to.

“Don’t you say that; they are our parents who care for us but have a strange way of showing it,” I cautioned, and Dawn scoffed.

I've spent the past few years praying to the moon goddess to grant me my mate. I can't bear staying here anymore.

Dawn continued complaining, but I shut her out. I couldn't listen to her anymore.

It wasn’t always like this. Once upon a time, things were… not good, but tolerable. My parents had always favored Celestia over me since she was born, but I didn’t care, as long as they gave me a little attention. Everything was fair enough—until I turned eighteen. Until I was supposed to discover my wolf and my rank.

I’d hoped for something great—something that would finally make them proud. Instead, I was cursed with the lowest of all. An omega who couldn’t even shift.

But surprisingly, I still had my wolf Dawn; she has been my secret confidante.

From then on, my home became hell. And when Celestia gained her powerful wolf the next year, my fate was sealed. I became the family’s disgrace.

The punching bag.

And now, I was to be sold. Like cattle. Like a womb to be rented.

Tears pricked my eyes again. How did my life come to this?

---

A loud knock at the door snapped me awake from a restless sleep.

My body was healing slowly, but before I could even move, Celestia’s shrill voice rang out:

“Vera! Go get the door!"

I scrambled, ignoring the ache in my limbs, and opened it to find two massive men dressed in black. Their presence was suffocating, their eyes cold and dangerous.

“H-how may I help you?” I stuttered, barely standing straight.

They exchanged glances, lips curling menacingly.

“Must be her,” one of them muttered.

I blinked, confused. Her? Who?

Were they here for Celestia? Some other girl? My heart thumped erratically as I searched their faces.

Then my parents’ words from last night echoed in my head like a cruel whisper.

The Lycan twins need a breeder… This might be the only way… useless since birth.

My throat went dry. My stomach twisted.

No. No, they couldn’t mean me.

They wouldn't do that, right?

I looked around searching for my parents before turning to them, only to find both men staring straight at me. One licked his lips. The other winked before sliding a hand to his crotch.

The realization slammed into me.

They do mean me.

I'm being sold as the breeder.

Disgust rolled through me, leaving goosebumps across my skin.

We have to leave, Vera,” Dawn pleaded at this point.

And for once, I didn’t argue.

“Welcome… come on in,” my mom said with the sweetest voice I never knew she had.

I was pushed aside by my dad as he led the men inside.

They went in, leaving me by the door. I stood there still frozen, planning my instant escape.

“Vera, go get these gentlemen something to drink,” Mom said dismissively as I scurried out of the room.

I ran into the kitchen, hands shaking, lungs tight. The air in the house was suffocating. My only chance was the back door.

Carefully, I set the tray in the sink. Making it sound like I was busy as I turned on the tap. The sound of the rushing water covered the sound of the door. My chest heaved with relief as I pulled it open and shut it behind me.

And then—

“Vera…” Celestia’s voice. Her footsteps in the kitchen.

“Vera,” she called again.

"Run!" Dawn screamed as I bolted straight to the woods.

CHAPTER 2

VESPERA'S POV

My legs obeyed before my mind caught up. I tore into the woods, branches slashing at my arms, thorns ripping at my gown, my bare feet pounding the earth. Each snapped twig sounded like a warning bell, echoing through the night, spurring me to run faster.

I didn’t care where I went—into the wild bush, into the claws of beasts, or into death itself. Anything was better than what waited for me if I was caught.

“Run, Vera. Don't stop,” Dawn yelled in my head.

For a second, I believed I could escape.

Then I heard it. The footsteps behind me grew louder. Heavy. Predatory.

I risked a glance back—and my heart dropped.

They were there. The Lycans. Huge shadows moving with terrifying speed, their golden eyes flashing even in the darkness.

I gasped and clutched the hem of my ruined gown, running harder. M
