“Let me go,” she snarled, kicking at his legs. Kane exhaled against her ear, sending shivers down her spine. “You really don’t listen, do you?” She twisted violently, trying to break free, but he only tightened his hold. “Enough,” he murmured, his voice low. Aria’s chest heaved. She hated this—hated how easily he overpowered her, how her body reacted to his nearness. The mate bond burned between them, making her stomach coil in frustration. “You can’t keep me here forever,” she snapped. Kane leaned down slightly, his lips brushing dangerously close to her ear. “Watch me.”
Chapter 1
Aria Blackwood’s heart pounded as she sprinted through the dense forest, her breath coming in sharp, rapid bursts. The moon above bathed the world in silver light, casting long shadows between the trees. Behind her, the sound of heavy footfalls drew closer, too close. Her muscles burned from the relentless pace, but she couldn't stop. Stopping meant death—or worse.
She gritted her teeth and pushed forward, weaving through the trees like a shadow. The scent of blood and smoke lingered in the air, the remnants of a battle that had turned against her pack. Her father had ordered the retreat, but Aria had stayed back, determined to protect her younger brother, Elias. She hadn’t counted on being surrounded.
A snap of a branch behind her sent her pulse skyrocketing. She whipped around just in time to see a dark figure emerge from the shadows. His golden eyes glowed in the dim light, sharp and assessing.
Kane Volkova.
Her stomach twisted at the sight of him. The infamous Alpha of the Bloodfang Pack stood before her, tall and imposing, his presence sending waves of power through the air. He was dressed in black, his muscular frame cutting a dangerous silhouette against the trees. The air between them crackled with tension.
Aria didn’t hesitate. She lunged at him, claws extending from her fingertips as she shifted partially, aiming straight for his throat. But Kane was faster. He sidestepped her attack effortlessly, grabbing her wrist and twisting it behind her back before she could react.
She hissed in pain but refused to cry out. Instead, she struggled, trying to wrench herself free. Kane tightened his grip, his body pressed against hers.
“You never learn, do you, Blackwood?” His voice was smooth, laced with dark amusement.
“Let me go,” she spat, thrashing against him.
“Not this time.”
Aria bared her teeth and drove her heel into his shin. It was a low move, but she wasn’t above dirty fighting. Kane grunted but didn’t loosen his hold. Instead, he yanked her closer, his grip like iron.
“You’re only making this harder for yourself,” he murmured against her ear, his breath hot against her skin.
Aria felt a shiver crawl down her spine, but she ignored it. “I’d rather die than be your prisoner.”
Kane’s golden eyes darkened. “Careful what you wish for.”
Without warning, he lifted her off the ground and threw her over his shoulder. Aria gasped, furious at the humiliating position. She pounded her fists against his back, kicking her legs, but he barely flinched.
“Put me down, you b*st*rd!”
He chuckled, the sound deep and infuriating. “Keep squirming, and I might just drop you.”
She growled, her rage boiling over. “I’ll kill you for this.”
Kane didn’t respond. Instead, he strode forward with purpose, his grip unyielding. Aria fought him the entire way, but it was useless. The warriors of the Bloodfang Pack were waiting at the edge of the clearing, their eyes filled with wary respect as their Alpha emerged from the shadows with his captive.
Aria’s stomach churned. This wasn’t just a defeat. This was a message.
Kane Volkova had captured the Silver Moon Alpha’s daughter.
And that meant war.

The scent of leather and musk filled her nose when she woke. Her wrists were bound behind her back, secured with something strong—thick rope, maybe chains. The room was dimly lit by the flickering glow of a fireplace. The bed she lay on was softer than she expected, the sheets clean and warm.
Her mind raced. She had expected a cell, maybe a dungeon. Instead, she was in a bedroom—Kane’s bedroom.
Aria gritted her teeth, her body tense as she scanned the space. It was vast, decorated in dark colors, the furniture sleek and expensive. A large window overlooked the mountains, but it was locked. There were no visible weapons she could use to defend herself.
The door creaked open, and her head snapped toward the sound. Kane stepped inside, exuding an air of dominance that made her stomach coil with resentment.
He looked just as infuriatingly composed as ever, his golden eyes unreadable.
“You’re awake,” he noted.
“No thanks to you,” she muttered, tugging at her restraints.
Kane leaned against the doorframe, crossing his arms. “If I wanted to kill you, Aria, you’d already be dead.”
She glared at him. “Then why am I here?”
He tilted his head, his gaze dropping to her bound hands before returning to her face. “You’re leverage.”
Aria stiffened. “For what?”
Kane took a step closer, his presence filling the room. “A negotiation.”
Her heart pounded, but she kept her face neutral. “My father will never negotiate with you.”
“He will if he wants his daughter back.”
Aria scoffed. “You underestimate him. My father doesn’t make deals with enemies.”
Kane smirked. “Then he’s a fool.”
She lunged at him despite her restraints, but he caught her before she could even get close. His fingers curled around her throat—not tight enough to choke, but enough to remind her of his strength.
Aria’s breath hitched, not in fear, but in frustration. His touch burned, sending an unexpected shiver through her body.
Kane’s gaze flickered, something unreadable passing through his golden eyes before he let her go. She stumbled back, her wrists still bound.
“I’m not afraid of you,” she said, her voice steady.
His smirk returned, slow and knowing. “You should be.”
Aria’s jaw clenched. She refused to show weakness, refused to let him think he had any power over her.
“Enjoy your stay, little wolf,” Kane murmured before turning away.
The door clicked shut behind him, leaving Aria alone with her racing thoughts and the terrifying realization that she was at the mercy of the one man she had been taught to hate her entire life.
And worse—she wasn’t sure hate was the only thing she felt anymore.
Chapter 2
Aria sat in the center of the massive bed, her wrists still bound behind her back, her body tense as she listened to the distant sounds of the Bloodfang Pack outside. Wolves howling. Boots crunching against the earth. Warriors training for a war her father would undoubtedly wage once he realized she was missing.
She had always known her life could end in battle. She had been trained for war since she was old enough to shift, drilled in strategy, combat, and survival. She was born to be a warrior. Yet, nothing in her training had prepared her for this.
For captivity.
For being at the mercy of the heartless and ruthless Kane Volkova.
The ropes burned against her skin, the bindings unforgiving. She gritted her teeth and tugged, testing for any weakness, any give in the restraints. Nothing. Kane had made sure she wasn’t escaping.
The heavy door creaked open again, and she turned her glare toward the intruder. It wasn’t Kane this time.
