Chapter 1
~Sophia~
Waking up to the cold of the night, I stretched my hands as I yawned deeply. Parting my eyelids slightly, I drifted my gaze around the room.
I was disheartened to find my mate wasn’t lying next to me. I was used to this by now. Its what I get for being a hybrid right?
Pulling the duvet away from my legs, I threw my feet out the bed as I stood up. Running my hands through my messy hair, I dug my teeth into my lower lip as I gazes at the starlit sky.
Why moon goddess? Why did it have to be me? Being a hybrid hasn’t been easy I must say. I’ve had to go through a lot of humiliations in life and honestly I wished I was dead.
I remembered it all like it was yesterday. My kind, we were happy. I still see the little river and small cottage I grew up in when I was young. The priceless sight of the sunset in the distance, the cool evening breeze grazing my skin as it walked along the atmosphere and my family.
Sigh!
With them, I was safe. I knew no pain. Who would have thought that so much bitterness could exist in such a beautiful world?
Turning around, I grabbed my robe as I wrapped it round my body. Tying it tightly round my waist, I slid into my fluffy slippers as I walked towards the door. I couldn’t help but wonder; where was my mate?
Opening the door, I made my way through the dark empty halls as goosebumps hugged my skin tightly. It was an eerie night, one which I had never experienced before.
For some unknown reason, I felt really unsettled as my insides upturned with each passing second. Why was this happening? Closing my eyes slightly, I stopped in my tracks as I remembered his smile. My mate, Derek Stone. Reminiscing on how we first met, a slight giggle escaped my lips as smiled broadly.
Although the events were saddening, but it was the best day of my life. It was the night of the rogue attack, and my family was taken away from me forever. When I’d lost all hope, there he was, ready to take me in as his mate.
Unfortunately, it was all in my head. Ever since he discovered I was a half-human half-wolf, he’s been cold to me. Never giving me a chance to explain myself and treating me like trash.
It's just a phase, right? He’ll snap out of it and come back to me. I know it. I’m so sure of it. I…
Clang! Clang! Clang!
“Argh!”
A loud noise came in the distance disrupting my thoughts.
“Argh!”
My pupils widened as I heard the loud cry again. My heart raced as I felt my fingertips sweat profusely. My pulse sped as I found myself walking towards the direction of the noise.
What was happening? Who was that in pain? Could we be under attack? I shouldn’t go there. I should stop and call for help, yeah? But what if it’s too late? Could this be goddess’ way for me to redeem myself?
“Help!”
The voice cried out in excruciating pain once more, jolting me back to the present situation. Everyone seemed to be asleep. Without further hesitation, I sprang my feet into action.
Running towards the direction of the screams, I could feel my heart raced with fear and determination. I didn’t know what was going on, but I sure wouldn’t let my pack be under attack. I wouldn’t let anyone hurt my pack and get away with it.
Approaching the courtyard, my eyes widened with terror as I saw the scene in front of me. It couldn’t be, right? That was Simone, a guard of Derek’s.
“Simone!” I yelled desperately as I rushed to his side. Taking his head in my arms, my stomach gurgled as I caught sight of his blood gushing out relentlessly.
Tears of fear sprung down my cheeks as I saw his stab wound. He’d been stabbed close in his chest and had lost a lot of blood.
Crash!
The harsh thunder graced us with its presence as I tried pulling out the knife from his chest. Who could have done this?
“Help! Someone please help! Anyone help! I yelled in desperation as I held Simone tightly in my arms as I scanned the surrounding area in search of the culprit.
“D… D…,”Simone mumbled with great difficulty.
“Huh?” I asked, looking down towards him. Looking into his eyes, I felt a sudden rush of despair engulf me. His eyes were filled with terror as he stared at me. A mix of pity and regret.
Parting his lips, he tried to utter something, but all that came out of his lips were blood. His warm blood flowed down his chest, bathing us as I tried pulling out the knife.
If I pulled it out right now, he could bleed to death. This wasn’t right. I needed medical assistance.
Chills ran down my spine as the sky let out its showers of sadness relentlessly. As the downpour cascaded over us, I felt his once warm body go cold as the last shred of life escaped his eyes.
His hands fell to his side as his eyes remained open. The realization was too much to bear. This had to be a prank, right? He couldn’t be dead, right?
My tears mixed with the rain as I cried out helplessly, howling into the night as I pulled Simone close to me. He was one of the few who treated me with respect. Why moon goddess? Why take him away? Most importantly, who did this?!
He was dead and there was nothing I could do about it. If only I was here earlier, maybe, just maybe he’d be alive right now. Staring at his lifeless face, pain embraced me tightly as I closed his terrified eyes for the last time.
As the rain basked the surrounding area, his blood washed away as I yelled in pain. Crying under the rain, I placed my hand on the knife with trembling hands. With shuddered breaths, I pulled it out gently with a heavy heart as I looked at him.
Bang!
The gunshot from the distance broke my mourning as I fell to the side startled.
“Murderer! You killed Simone!”
Chapter 2

“Murderer! You killed Simone!” The guard shouted, pointing his gun towards me.
I must have misheard this right? Me? Murderer? I tried collecting everything that just happened in a bid to place the pieces of the puzzle together. I couldn’t possibly be tagged as a murderer. Could he be drunk?
“Ahh!” I cried out in pain. I had been surrounded by the guards without realizing it. The chief guard Samson, had placed the silver edged spear on my shoulder, piercing it slowly into my skin.
“You murdered Simone,” a guard on the side said with a shaky voice. His eyes were red with grief as he stared at me in disgust. I was used to this mistreatment but it had never reached this level. They couldn’t possibly think I was a murderer right?
“Argh!” I cried out in pain once more as the spear dug into my skin. Agony exploded through my shoulder as the silver pierced my skin, searing every nerve.
The metallic tang invaded my senses as blood gushed out, staini
