“I knew from the first time I saw you that I was in danger of wanting you in my bed!” he smiled cynically, his gaze mocking. “I was told that to love you, I would need to go to hell, but what would heaven be if I couldn't love you there, too?” Melania replied, sealing their lips in an intense kiss. “You belong to me, Melanie Parker, because I simply yearn for you to be mine and there is nothing you can do to change that,” he repeated, intensely biting her earlobe, making her body shudder all over with each touch of his body. In a scenario steeped in crime, Melanie Parker's life takes a turn when her sister gets involved with the criminal underworld. To protect her family, she is forced to abandon her plans and be handed over to the city's ruthless mobster, Caleb Miller, the famous millionaire mob boss. Between attraction and repulsion, Melanie and Caleb launch themselves into a possessive romance, wrapped in dangers and dark secrets. As she fights for her freedom, Melanie faces a choice: succumb to desire and stay with the man she loves, and become his wife? Or seek her independence and get away from that dangerous life? She finds herself consumed by an obsessive and forbidden passion, amid intrigues and betrayals, while both find themselves trapped in an uncertain destiny, where they are connected to each other in such a way that it is impossible to escape.
Chapter 1
**Melanie Parker**
“I told you to leave me alone! I’m not going to marry my sister’s fiancé!” I shouted, burying my head in the pillow in an attempt to muffle the insistent knocks on my bedroom door.
“Melanie Parker, open this door right now, or I’ll get your father to open it!” my mother’s voice echoed down the hallway, thick and impatient, as she knocked even harder.
I rolled my eyes, wishing it was just a nightmare. I got up, irritated, and unlocked the door so that ordinary woman could come in. I remember clenching my fists when I saw her entering the room again—someone like her who sells her own daughters for money shouldn’t be called a mother.
“Happy now? You could have opened it yourself; after all, you have the key to everything in this house!” I responded sarcastically, throwing the door open so she could enter with her fabulous fine linen dress encrusted with precious pearls.
“I thought I’d have to send your father to break it down!” She raised an eyebrow and smiled, but her smile disappeared when she saw my irritated and resentful expression. “Be ready by eight tonight; we’re going to the Coopers’ for dinner!” she said with a cynical smile on her lips.
“I don’t want to go back there!” I murmured, nervous, remembering what happened last time.
The scene of my sister’s lifeless body sprawled on the cold floor, with blood pooling around her, was still vivid in my mind. I remember clearly the clothes she was wearing the day she was murdered at the Coopers’ house. That family had money, enough to silence my parents. It was disgusting to think they didn’t even bother to give her a proper burial. Persuaded by the Coopers, my parents agreed to have Isabela’s body cremated. I can’t shake the feeling they were trying to erase the evidence. It all happened so fast—within a week, I lost my sister and was already promised marriage to her current boyfriend.
“Of course, you’re going, Melanie!” She crossed her arms over her chest and clenched her teeth, furious. “It’s a special dinner; they’re celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary, and we agreed it would be appropriate to announce your engagement to Nathan Cooper,” she said as if it were obvious.
“Really? I swear I didn’t know,” I said, raising an eyebrow. “Especially since I don’t agree with this arranged marriage you’ve planned for me!”
“Melanie, we’re not going to have this conversation again!” she ended the topic abruptly. “Be ready by eight; Nathan will come to pick you up.” With that, she turned her back and left me alone in the dark room.
As soon as the door closed, my chest tightened with the memory of Isabela, my older sister. She should be in my place if it weren’t for her mysterious death. There was no way I could replace Isabela, no matter how much my mother tried to force it. With tears in my eyes, I sat on the bed, thinking of a way to escape this fate imposed on me.
I looked at the clock next to my bed; it was already seven o’clock, and with no desire at all, I closed the door and entered the closet, looking at all my dresses and grabbing the first one that came to my hand.

I did simple makeup and left my hair down, falling naturally over my shoulders. The watch on my wrist read five past eight; d*mn! I was late. I grabbed my purse, putting a lipstick and my cell phone inside, and took the opportunity to type a message to my best friend, Lauren, before leaving the place I could most call a prison, but it was just my family’s house.
“I’m going to the Coopers’ for my engagement dinner. I’ll keep my location on my phone activated!”
I took a deep breath and left the room, heading for the stairs. As soon as I started descending, I heard Nathan’s voice. He was talking to my parents, probably telling some generous lie. As soon as they saw me, they all stood up. My mother shot me a deadly look and glanced directly at the clock on the wall. I just smiled gently, ignoring her. She wouldn’t dare be hostile to me in front of Nathan Cooper.
"You look beautiful," my father said, coming toward me and taking my hand to make me twirl. "Now let's go before your mother kills us all!" He laughed, walking ahead of me, and my mother followed right behind, leaving me alone with Nathan.
"You look so s*xy in that dress, Melanie!" he whispered in my ear, licking his lips and placing his firm hands on my waist to keep me from escaping.
"I'd like you to let go of me, please!" I responded sharply, removing his hands from my body and walking toward the door.
My arm was yanked forcefully, making me stop abruptly. I turned around, glaring furiously at him.
"Never touch me like that again!" I said through gritted teeth, feeling my body tremble with rage.
Nathan just smiled, a smile that wasn't genuine, and slowly released my arm. I quickly left the house, heading to the parking area where the two cars were waiting. My mother gestured that I should get in the car with Nathan. I felt the anger bubbling inside me. Everyone knew about Nathan Cooper's devastating reputation. As if it wasn’t bad enough to give away their only daughter, my mother still thought it was a good idea to leave me alone with this man who was probably my sister's murderer.
As soon as he unlocked the doors, I got into the passenger side and fastened my seatbelt, ignoring his smirk.
"Ready for our special night, Melanie?" he asked sarcastically as he started the car.
I didn't respond, just looked out the window, trying to control the anger that threatened to overflow. I knew that reacting would only give him more power. The silence between us was heavy, laden with tension. Nathan accelerated the car, and we headed toward the Coopers' house.
"As you wish, Melanie. Soon, we'll be married, and you won't be able to escape from me! And when that day comes, be prepared to obey my orders!!" he said, in a tone that made my body shiver completely.
Chapter 2
**Melanie's POV**
The security guards opened the enormous garden gate, and Nathan drove the car in, parking it. I didn’t wait for him to get out; I just opened the car door and got out, leaving him behind. I walked toward the main entrance. The garden was well-lit, and the bloodstains from last time had been carefully removed. I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to warm up from the cold, and continued walking toward the hall. Once again, Nathan grabbed my arm.
"Can you stop doing that?" I said, pulling my arm out of his hands.
"What’s your problem, Melanie? I’m trying to be nice," he said, moving closer with an irritated look. "But you act like a spoiled five-year-old."
"My problem?" I exploded. "I don’t want this! You don’t want this! So why continue with this farce? Just convince your parents to call off this agreement!"
"And who said I don’t want it?" He raised his left eyebrow and crossed his arms. "At first, I
