Annotation
Sheena Carlos, when she was young, did not have the same experiences as other people. She could never leave their mansion, and her parents even forced her to work as a maid. She has twins, but it also enrages her, making her envious of things she has never known. Such as attracting attention, purchasing expensive items, and wearing expensive clothing. She did nothing but accept what was given to her. Sheena could not see the true beauty of nature as she grew up; she could not have learned to read or write without the support of her mother, Esme, and Tina would never have learned the stuff she should’ve just learned. That’s Sheena Carlos’ living inside their mansion, as if they don’t consider her a child. She wondered why her parents and twins would treat her like that when all she wanted was for them to love and appreciate her, but that didn’t happen because they were even happier when they inflicted harm on her. Sheena had become numb in the few years she had suffered at the hands of her family, as if she was used to it, no matter what was going on inside their mansion. She only becomes strong because of two people who always make her feel better in order for her to cope with life’s difficulties and pain. She thought she was used to it, but sometimes she just wanted to give up because of the pain it had caused her. She said that she was almost insane, and that she would rather die than go through the pain and suffering of her own family. But she leaves people behind when she does this, so she decides to just follow her family instead of ruining the two people who support her. She also agreed to marry an old man against her parents’ wishes in order to be the one to answer her prayers and escape the hell that her family had created. However, she was mistaken, because the person who was going to marry her only wanted to use her for her own benefit, and they intended to do more harm to Sheena. She could no longer bear what they had done and contemplated escaping this same horrible place, disgusted. She tried to run and run, but they chased her down, her twin, Shanna. It wanted to kill her, but she grew strong and brave in order to escape her demon family. She just ran and ran, even though her clothes were ripped, as long as he could escape her twin. She even wanted to go back because of the two years she left behind, but the desire to flee prevailed in the place where she had suffered for many years, and she knew that's also what the two people who cared about her wanted. She was an idiot in the middle of the road, walking barefoot, and she didn't know where to go because she was the first to be exposed to the real world. She didn’t know what to do now that she’d escaped from her parents, as well as she didn’t know anyone to turn to for help until she came across a cliff. She did not know what had entered her mind, why she was so close to the cliff’s edge, where she was heading. As she remembered what she had gone through, she felt the cold air hugging her and tears streaming down her cheeks. She could think of nothing else but disappearing as long as he lived. She will recall her traumatic events at the hands of her own family again and again. She is losing hope that someone will help her, so she believes that ending her life is the only way to end all of her suffering, but... There is a ray of hope that drew her away from danger, and someone helped her to have a second chance.
Chapter 1
“Daddy! I like this dress!”
“It’s great that you enjoy it.”
Shanna smirked at me, so I turned away and went about my job. What else am I doing here? Because of my family? Ha-ha-ha!
Sheena, you are hilarious. Your parents don't love you, not even your twin. No one knows who you are. I was just shaking my head with my thoughts. I can’t help but feel hurt.
Who will be glad? If your parents didn’t love you? They can’t even look at me. I’ve never even gone out with friends. I also lacked study skills. If it hadn’t been for Mother Esme, I might not have learned to speak, write, or read.
I feel like I’m in hell. I’m not permitted to leave the house. Because if I go out, they will punish me. They did not feed me for a week. They are cruel to me, but I endure because I love them. But are they? Do they love me, or do they only love me once they hurt me?
They’ve been around me since I was a child. Mother Esme was the only person who looked after me and taught me proper manners. Their rage only grew because of an accident in which they blamed me for something I didn’t do.
For eighteen years, I’ve been through hell with them. I was on the verge of giving up, but I kept going. I want to be free, free of their world, free of their pain and misery. Because I know I don’t belong in their world.
Just be patience, Sheena. You can be free, too.
“Sheena! The Ezra has arrived! They're handsome!” said Tina. My only friend, who is also Carlos’s maid, along with everything else that my twin should do, I consider her a sister. “Your twin is getting married? That’s annoying! Shanna thinks she’s a wonderful daughter!”
I laughed at her because aside from Mother Esme; she is the only person who is aware of my life's problems.
“You two, hurry because Shanna’s fiancé is already there with his parents,” said Mother Esme, her eyes fixed on me. I Just smiled at her, as if to say, ‘I’m fine because I’m used to it.’ which is true, and I’m always fine.
No one could see my face because I wore a mask and hat. This is also what my parents advised me to do. They don’t want anyone to know that Shanna has a twin, who is me.
I came out and bowed as I served the guests and could hear the visitor’s laughter right away. I took a deep breath and leaned over to Mother Esme, who was waiting on the other side.
“When is the wedding?” asked Dad, with a smile on his face.
Sir Gaze is my sister’s groom. How did I get to know him? It’s easy because I always hear Sir Gaze coming from Shanna’s mouth.
“I’m uncertain, hey, son?” Mr. Azrael called his son, Gaze, who was staring at me.
Oh, my gosh! I bowed right away. I’m afraid. Maybe he saw my face and thought my parents would be angry.
“Hey, babe, Uncle called!” said Shanna. He shifted his focus away from me, and he smiled and turned to face everyone.
“Next month,” said Mr. Giovanni.
I took a deep breath and looked at them again, but it was a dangerous move because my father’s gaze had already landed on me, so I bowed. And I feared I would punish by them again. My wounds are only now healed.
“Wait, where’s your twin, Shanna?” asked Ezrael’s youngest daughter.
Mother Esme and Tina both widened their eyes at her question and reacted with surprise. I wasn’t certain how I would react because I felt like my family was staring at me. How did she find out? She can’t possibly know who I am.
“H-huh? I don’t have a twin,” said Shanna. I closed my eyes and clenched my fists.
I bit my lower lip so hard because I’m used to them not allowing me to see anyone. Because nobody knows who I am.
“Yes, she is the only child,” dad confirmed it... I can already taste the blood on my lips because I bit them hard in pain.
“No! Where is she? I just want to see her!”
No, please. Stop doing it.
“Don’t be stubborn, Aphrodite.” yelled their father, but Aphrodite became even more irritated, and she left, saying nothing.
“Sorry,” said Mr. Ezrael. Dad smiled at the Israel family, but mom was looking at me. I just pinched my hand because it looked like I was the one to blame.
“It’s okay, Shanna doesn’t have twins, she's our only child,” said Dad, as they continued talking, but I knew Shanna and Mom will be mad at me.
It appears to be my fault once again. Prepare for your punishment, Sheena… ha, ha, ha…
Chapter 2
Sheena, are you ready?
What punishment It will impose on you? I chuckled. What else could I expect from them? Will they sympathize with me? No way! They have no sympathy. While I’m in pain, they're even happier.
Others may have thought they were a happy family. Let’s say yes because they are a full family, even without me!
I once wondered, “Why was this my fate?” Is it possible that I made a mistake in my past life? I might have made a mistake in making them feel as if they didn’t consider me a child. Is it possible that I’m a troubled child?
I love them because they are my family, but do they still consider me as a member of the family? I can’t help feeling sad because some people have happy families, even if they’re not wealthy or poor. Unlike me, I have a family, but they treat me like trash.
“OPEN THE DOOR, SHEENA!”
I wiped away my tears and took a deep breath before opening the door.
Shanna slapped me hard and gripped my jaw to see
