Annotation

When I opened my eyes, I wasn’t in my old world anymore. I was Taichi Yagami—yes, that Taichi. Leader of the DigiDestined. The brave-hearted hero of the Digital World. But something was wrong. Very wrong. I didn’t have a sister. No Kari. No Hikari. No quiet girl with the gentle smile who always stood in my shadow but shone brighter than anyone when it truly mattered. Her name wasn’t even whispered in this version of the world. It was as if she never existed. And in this cold, indifferent Digital World, her absence cuts deeper than I ever imagined. --- Thrown into a version of the Digimon universe that feels eerily hollow, the new Taichi finds himself haunted by memories of someone the world refuses to acknowledge. There’s no picture, no file, not a trace left of his beloved younger sister. No one remembers her—not the teachers, not the chosen children, not even the Digital World itself. Except for him. And maybe one more. “Cold?” A gruff voice beside him. He glances down. Gabumon—no, he insists on being called “Gaba” now—folds his arms as if trying to look annoyed. “If you want to rub my fur, just say so.” Taichi lets out a breath and smiles, the first one in days. Gaba turns away. “Idiot.” --- Armed only with fractured memories and the lingering warmth of someone the world says never existed, Taichi is forced to lead a new digital journey. But without Kari, something is off about this world. It's darker, lonelier, and far more hostile. Bonds between Digimon and humans are fragile. The line between survival and annihilation has grown thinner. The Digital World has turned cold—and perhaps, so has the heart of its chosen leader. But not all hope is lost. By his side is Veedramon—proud, brash, and loyal. A partner who doesn't ask for explanations, only strength. “If this world doesn’t have a Kari,” he says, “then we’ll find the reason. And if the world took her from you, we’ll take something back.” Together with his oddly defensive Gabumon companion (who may or may not secretly enjoy head pats), and Veedramon’s unwavering fire, Taichi begins to unravel a Digital World where light never quite arrived. And maybe—just maybe—that means the darkness never left. --- *“In this cruel world, only the warmth of her embrace ever gave me peace.”* Reborn as a hero, stripped of his light, and thrown into a reality that shouldn’t exist, Taichi Yagami must battle not only rampaging Digimon, but also the ache of a forgotten bond—and the growing suspicion that something far more sinister is manipulating this new world from behind the scenes. Where is his sister? What has become of the light? And can a world without Hikari ever be saved?

Chapter 1

Chapter One: Taichi Yagami Has No Sister

Name: Taichi YagamiGender: MaleHidden Identity: TransmigratorCurrent Identity: Dual Transmigrator, Savior of the Digital WorldCurrent Location: File Island⋯⋯

"I came to the Digital World... and I don’t even have a sister. 〒▽〒" Taichi Yagami gazed up at the cloudless sky. The sun shone warmly, the wind was gentle, but as a transmigrator, not only was he deprived of a system—he could accept that, since this world wasn’t particularly dangerous—but the fact that he didn’t even have a younger sister? Unforgivable!

“Even if there’s no connection between the two… you still have me, Taichi,” said a towering creature over two meters tall, its skin a pattern of blue and white.

Though its coloring resembled that of a famous robotic cat, it was no “Doraemon.” Instead, it was a sentient artificial intelligence—a Digimon of ancient, phantom-dragon lineage—a Veemon named "A-Zero," a name given by Taichi.

Taichi cast a sidelong glance at his companion and sighed toward the sky with his hands clasped behind his back. “Ah, the follies of youth.”

In his childhood boredom, he had purchased a virtual pet device—a Digivice—and as he raised his digital creature, the accumulating data gradually manifested into the physical form of the Digimon now before him.

“As Taichi Yagami, my partner should’ve been Agumon…”

“I was Agumon before I evolved,” Veemon explained.

To put it in adult terms: at the time, Veemon hadn’t officially been designed, so this particular Veemon was a variant evolution of an Agumon, a champion-level Digimon.

“Then why didn't you evolve into Greymon?” Taichi protested.

“You mean that one?” Veemon pointed expressionlessly at a dinosaur-like Digimon approaching them.

It was indeed Greymon, with yellow skin, blue stripes, and a bony helm atop its head. Drooling, it advanced on Taichi with a mindless hunger, clearly lacking the protagonist's aura. Well, to be fair—even the Greymon with protagonist aura was a glutton.

This wasn’t a cute cartoon version; this was a full-fledged dinosaur—muscle-bound, savage, and fire-breathing.

Taichi, long accustomed to such creatures, remained unfazed. “A-Zero, take care of it.”

“Understood, Taichi.”

Veemon strode forward. As Greymon lunged, he was swiftly knocked out by a single punch. The fluidity of the strike was so practiced it must have been executed hundreds—if not thousands—of times.

“Ha ha ha! I, Lord Veemon, am invincible!” Veemon declared triumphantly, striking a series of exaggerated bodybuilding poses.

Watching the blue dragon show off, Taichi couldn’t help reflecting on Digimon evolution. Every Digimon was fated to evolve—especially those with Tamers. As for Veemon, his path of evolution was...

[Power] — At the Champion level, Veemon possessed enough strength to challenge Digimon of higher stages. Combined with tactical intelligence, even Ultimate-level enemies could fall before him.[Speed] — With wings added upon reaching Ultimate level, his agility became gale-like, matching even Mega-level opponents in combat.[Recovery] — Upon obtaining the Ultimate Force (Ulforce), he overcame the data erosion of the Ultimate stage, gaining unmatched regeneration alongside enhanced power and speed.

His evolutionary route—pure, unembellished, yet overwhelming. It had the aura of a classic Hong Kong comic warrior.

One day, while the pair rested along the coast, Veemon looked toward the sea and said eagerly, “Taichi, we’ve already conquered File Island. Let’s cross the sea to Folder Continent!”

Taichi frowned. “Invincible, huh... Maybe it’s time I faced the purpose behind my coming to this world. Hopefully, my presence hasn’t disrupted things too much over there.”

The sea breeze whispered over the calm waters, but it couldn’t blow away his unease. Unlike an ordinary child, Taichi’s transmigrator mindset made him mature—but also robbed him of youthful passion.

He knew his future foes well—but he couldn’t guarantee victory.

“A-Zero... once we cross, there’s no going back.”

“No matter what awaits, we won’t lose—because we are a 100% perfect team!” Veemon said, his gaze unwavering.

In the original manga, Taichi and Veemon shared similar temperaments and a flawless partnership.

But now, their personalities contrasted—Taichi was cool and stoic; Veemon, hot-blooded and loud. Were they complementary… or incompatible?

Taichi stared into the distant horizon where sea met sky, lost in thought.

Beside him, Veemon stood as his silent guardian, patiently awaiting his partner’s decision, confident he would not be disappointed.

“Ah~ who hasn’t dreamed of a spontaneous journey? Let’s go, A-Zero!” A new life, a newfound freedom—onward, unafraid of hardship!

“Woohoo—!” Veemon cheered.

Folder Continent—East: The Steel Empire in the canyon-bound industrial zone.West: The Guardian’s Savannah, spanning deserts and lush grasslands.South: Vast insect Digimon territory—natural, expansive, and serene.Center: Nightmare Forest, home to Digimon graves and eerie ruins.

Famous locations included: Holy Angel City, Dragon’s Nest, Netwave Village, Nightmare Castle, Star City, Ironworks, Clinic Town, Sky Tree, Demon King Fortress, and more.

Upon landing, Taichi rode atop Veemon, traversing the sun-scorched, monotonous desert. Aside from scattered stones and sparse cacti, only a rare tuft of grass broke the bleak silence. Yet amidst this desolation, a patch of blue and white stood out—it was a wounded Gabumon, clutching its knee.

“Hey, need treatment?” Taichi dismounted and approached.

The Gabumon turned, startled. “⊙▽⊙W-W-What is a human doing here?!”

“Why don’t you think I’m a humanoid Digimon?” Taichi deadpanned. There were plenty of near-human Digimon, after all. Was there some unique recognition system between them?

Grumbling to himself, he nonetheless bandaged Gabumon's injury with care.

“All done.”

“Thank you! I’m Gabumon—just call me ‘Gabao.’ I really appreciate the help.”

Before Taichi could respond, Veemon laughed grandly. “No worries! Healing is a Tamer’s basic duty—”

Before he could finish, Taichi gagged him with a bandage.

“Eh? What kind of treatment is that?” Gabumon blinked in confusion, genuinely thinking Veemon had some illness.

“Too talkative,” Taichi muttered.

Gabumon pointed at Veemon. “Tamer, is that little dog-like fool your Digimon?”

Taichi gave a slight nod.

Veemon glared. Dog?! He was a rare phantom dragon, not a mutt!

Gabumon ignored the glare and stroked his chin thoughtfully. “Strange… I’ve never seen that species on Folder Continent.” His expression suddenly changed. “Oh no! I need to hurry to Holy Angel City!” He grabbed his bag and turned to leave.

“Wait! …Can I go with you?” Taichi called out.

“?” Gabumon paused.

“I heard a voice when I first arrived in the Digital World—it told me to head to Holy Angel City.”

ROAR—!

A thunderous growl interrupted them. The ground cracked open as a massive Tortomon emerged, armored in golden shells covered in jagged spikes—a Digimon built for defense.

“That’s the Land Turtle that ambushed me!” Gabumon cried out.

Taichi glanced at the massive beast and sneered, “Attacking a mere Rookie-level Digimon… how disgraceful.”

“You’ll anger it!” Gabumon broke into a cold sweat. Didn’t this guy know that enraged Digimon were terrifying?

“Zero, take it down.”

“Got it, Taichi.”

With a wicked grin, Veemon cracked his knuckles. With a loud thud and a powerful leap, his bulky body shot forward like an arrow loosed from a bow.

“Tortomon has insanely high defense! You can’t just punch—” Gabumon began, but what he saw next made him swallow his words.

One punch. That was all it took. Tortomon lay unconscious in the dirt.

Veemon stood tall, slowly announcing the name of his move:“V–Through-Mountain–Chain-Ball–Heavy–Fist!”

Taichi: “……”

Gabumon: “What… kind of absurdly long name is that?!”

Chapter 2

Chapter Two: Veemon of the One-Punch

In order to survive—and to prepare for the powerful enemies that lay ahead—Taichi Yagami had begun intensive training with Veemon during their time on File Island.

In his youth, Taichi had been enamored with wuxia and fantasy novels. Though he was unsure whether supernatural forces existed in this world after transmigrating, he took no chances. He had once studied martial arts at a dilapidated dojo called “Liangshan Pavilion” back in his previous world.

Upon arriving in the Digital World, Taichi had tested his skills repeatedly. His martial arts were enough to subdue most Rookie-level Digimon, and could occasionally trouble a few weaker Champions like Betamon. Beyond that, he was powerless.

Ultimately, only Digimon could contend with Digimon. Don’t you agree, Daimon Masaru?

And so, Taichi passed on all his martial knowledge to Veemon. Though simple-minded and often offbeat, Veemon possessed un
