Sinopse

“Help me,” I begged because I was already losing my mind. Six years of my life was a joke. Everything I knew was a lie. My life was shattered, my hope ruined. Then finally i decided to walk away from everything I had and I knew. It was the first step to something I didn’t know could happen. I didn’t know my wretched life could bloom again. “I will help you,” he said as he took my hand, “you are my responsibility now,”

Chapter 1

ATHENA’s POV.

The blood continues to flow out of me as I clutch my stomach, the pain is unbearable and it looks like I am about to pass out but I cannot. If I do, the child inside of me can die and I am not looking to allow that to happen.

Stefan and I have been married for six years and in six years, I felt what it meant to be ridiculed by his family and mine. He manifested as my mate on my eighteenth birthday and his parents didn’t even give us time to prepare, they held our mark and mate ceremony almost immediately.

I moved in with him when I was eighteen but it wasn’t a bed of roses either. His mother asked me to forget about school and stay home to take care of my husband and the pack. He was the werewolf heir of the moon pack and I was to learn how to become a Luna until the time was right.

My family didn’t help either. My step mother brainwashed my father into agreeing to Thor terms and for six years, I was a wife to the man who claimed to love me but never showed it and it became worse after he took over his parents company two years ago—Hallow holdings, the leading multi billion dollar company in the country. Hallow holdings were involved in every aspect of the economy, it felt like they had the economy in the palm of their hands. Stefan only showed up when it was necessary and today, I hope he knows how much I need him.

I dial his number again and it still goes to voicemail. Somehow the voice of the network operator telling me the call has gone to voicemail makes the pain increase.

When I found out I was pregnant three months ago, that was the day I saw Stefan smile genuinely at me. He felt fulfilled and happy that he would become a father and the pack finally had an heir. That was the day my mother in law treated me like I was some delicate flower.

“Do this,” she said, “don’t do this,” she added.

She told me the dos and don’ts of pregnancy and I listened with rapt attention even if the only thing I wanted to do at that moment was spend time with my husband.

That was the last of it. After that day, It felt like no one cared anymore, it felt like everyone left me to carry the pregnancy on my own but hoping for a well born child.

I dial Stefan’s phone again as the pain shoots through my lower abdomen, making more blood pour out of me.

Thank the goddess, this time, it connects and the phone starts to ring. I wait, hoping for him to answer and finally I hear the click.

“Ste—

“Why are you calling him?” I hear a familiar voice from the other end of the line. I know that voice like the back of my hand—Gemini, my step sister. She is two years younger than me and the product of my father’s affair. After my mother died, he didn’t hesitate to bring her and her mother into the house. I accepted them, it wasn’t like I had a choice but what I don’t understand is why my sister has my husband’s phone.

For a moment, I forget about my pain and press the phone closely against my ear again.

“Why do you have Stefan's phone?” I ask her.

“Why did you call, Athena?” She asks again, “Stefan is busy and he will call you when he is done,”

“Put my husband on the line now,” I half yell, hissing in pain.

“Baby?” I hear Stefan’s voice from the background and my heart skips a beat. Baby? Did he just call her baby? No matter how much I think about it, it makes no sense. Maybe I must have heard wrong. Stefan can’t be with her and he can’t be calling her baby.

“Who is it?” I hear the voice again.

“Your wife,” Gemini responds, “I told her you were busy and you will call her back but she is proving adamant”

“End the call,”

Before I can comprehend what’s going on, the call ends and I sit in my thoughts for a few seconds forgetting the pain in my stomach. My husband was with my sister? Since when how was that even possible? No matter how much I think about it, I am unable to process it.

I dial the number again but this time, it goes to voicemail again. I try to dial it again but the pain increases and the phone falls out of my hand and a scream tears from my mouth. This time around, the pain is so intense that I feel like I am going to lose my mind.

I clutch my stomach as tears pour out of my eyes. In that instant, the door pushes open and one of the maids walks in.

“Luna—

Her voice trails off when she sees the blood on my clothes and my body. A scream tears from her mouth as she runs towards me, panic evident in her eyes.

“Luna. You are bleeding,” her voice comes out in one breath.

“Please,” I beg, almost out of breath.

I stretch my hand towards her and she grabs a hold of my hand.

That it is, the last thing I can remember before everything goes pitch back.

The smell of antiseptic and bleach filters into my  nose as I slowly open my eyes. The whiteness of the walls first greet me before I turn to see the maid sitting beside me. Worry etched on her face and she looks like the world is on her shoulders.

“You are awake,” she mutters, gently grabbing a hold of my hand.

“Wha—

My mind wanders back to what happened earlier and panic grips me. My baby? Was it okay? Did I miscarry it?

A lot is going on in my mind as my eyes search hers.

Before she can say anything. The door pushes open and an unfamiliar face walks into the room.

For a few seconds, I allow my eyes to travel over this person. I know this hospital well but I have never seen this person before.

“You are awake,” his deep baritone filters in.

The white The white lab coat did not do justice to his big build. It was stuck to his muscles, highlighting how big he is. His dark inky hair is pulled into a ponytail while the beards sprouting his face adds to the entire dangerous aura emanating from him. He is huge and somehow I feel tiny in front of him. What draws me in mostly is the color of his eyes—chartreuse green.

This is the first time I am ever seeing that color of eyes in the twenty four years of me being alive.

“What happened, doctor?” I finally find my voice, “my baby. What—

“Your baby is fine,” he cuts me off, “you almost had a miscarriage but you were lucky to be brought in on time. The only issue now is the fact that your pregnancy is officially in danger zone and we have to do everything possible to make sure you and the baby is fine until you give birth,”

I let out a sigh as his words registers in my head. Danger zone?

“Wha—

“Your husband,” he interrupts me again, “where is he? He should be here for this,”

My heart breaks at the mention of Stefan. I don't even know where he is or if I actually heard well from that call.

“He is busy,” I lie but the man in front of me doesn’t look like he believes me. His eyes continue to stare at me like he is trying to pull the truth out of my mouth. Something about his eyes—something far more dangerous than I can actually imagine.

“Busy?” He asks again, “is he too busy to come see his wife at the hospital after she almost lost his child?”

I look away from him. I do not like the way he is looking at me—those eyes make me feel like I’m guilty of something which I do not know of yet.

“I will give the boss a call again,” Grace, the maid, says before she excuses herself out of the room, leaving the two of us.

For a few seconds, he doesn’t say anything but his gaze never leaves me. It feels like he knows something that I do not.

“Tell me,” I finally find my voice, “what must I do to make sure my baby is okay?”

“I will speak to your husband when he gets here, ma’am” he replies, “he should be here to hear what I have to say”

“You can just tell me. He is—

“He won’t be coming, will he?” He takes the words right out of my mouth and how I wish I am able to give him an answer. How I wish the door can open and Stefan will walk in.

“He is busy,” I tell him again, “he will come when he gets my message,”

“Hmmm,” the doctor hums, “I will wait for him to come then. For now, you should rest and not tire yourself out. You need it,”

“Just tell me, doctor—” my voice trails off when I realise I do not know his name.

“Seth,” he calls out, “the name is Seth.”

Seth sounds dangerous.

“I will ask the nurse to keep an eye on you. Let me know when your husband gets here,” he adds and turns to leave but I halt him—almost unwillingly.

“Do you know me?” I can’t help but ask him. The way he is looking at me proves that he does.

“Never met you,” he answers, “Mrs Athena,”

With a tiny smile, he makes his way out again but I don’t linger much on the encounter as the phone on the table begins to ring and my mother in law’s name pops up.

Chapter 2

ATHENA’s POV,

As soon as I pick the call, her voice filters in.

“Mum,” I call out, trying to make my voice as calm as possible.

“Grace tell me you are in the hospital,” she says, “how careless could you be? How is the baby?”

“The baby is fine, mum,” I manage to answer despite the lump in my throat. I thought she would come running the moment she heard.

“That’s very good,” she says after a few seconds of silence, “I spoke with Stefan and he is very busy at the moment. I will ask the driver to bring you and Grace home. Until then, make sure you take some rest and don’t move around too much.”

“Mum,” I cut her off again, I cannot help it, "I almost had a miscarriage,” I tell her, “I was bleeding so much,”

“That’s why I told you to rest until the driver gets there,” my mother in law replies, no iota of panic from her. My chest tightens at the realization of that. She doesn’t care and she is not even hiding it.

“You can not lose that baby, A
