The Moon Goddess created the first werewolves by splitting a single soul, forging the perfect mate for every wolf to come. She also gifted each newborn with a supernatural power, a Gift… but some Gifts are more dangerous than others. Elara has been a rogue since she was six, exiled from her pack for the hazardous Gift that could destroy everything around her. She’s learned to survive alone—and even thrive. Until she crosses paths with an Alpha who stirs something deep inside her, igniting a connection neither can ignore. But fate isn’t done. Envious ex-lovers, deadly rivals, and long-buried secrets threaten to tear them apart. In a world ruled by power, instinct, and destiny, love may be the most dangerous Gift of all.
Chapter 1
"I'm right here, Elara. What are you, blind?" I rolled my eyes at Greyson's taunts. “No, but you're invisible," I shot back. He enjoyed irritating me with his gift. He was cheating during the chip-throwing war we were currently having. Greyson grinned as she reappeared behind me and crushed a Dorito on top of my head, saying,
"It's not my fault you're too weak to use your Gift." I screamed and attempted to strike him, but he easily sidestepped me, putting a chip into his mouth rather than my hair this time. “I am not weak," I complained to him while attempting to remove the Dorito residue from my hair. "I simply don't understand the purpose of killing a poor plant to get even with you. You are aware of how immature you are?
Greyson ate another chip and shrugged. "Don't start something you can't finish, babe."
I rolled my eyes. About three months after my grandmother passed away, I got to know Grey. More specifically, three months ago, following the loss of my grandmother, I came dangerously close to killing him.
He is a renegade as well, and he found my cabin while meandering through the forest. He entered the house as if he owned it, not realizing that I was at home.
I had s*ck*d the life from a poor nearby succulent so I would have the energy to harm the invader, and I was upstairs when I heard him come in. I usually merely used enough magic to knock out rogues and then discarded their unconscious bodies far away because I never wanted to murder them.
I was shocked to see no one, even though I had heard someone enter the house. But I could sense the scent of another wolf. How likely is it that the most attractive rogue I've ever seen owns the first cabin I break into in the forest? I whirled around when I heard the booming voice behind me. There was no one present.
I created an energy ball with the succulent's life force by twisting my hands in a circular motion. Fortunately, I struck the invader squarely in the chest as I threw it in the general area where I heard the voice. F*ck! "The man suddenly appeared and collapsed on the floor as he took the full force of the photon blast."Alright, alright! Freaky Witch lady, I give up. He said, "I'll gladly leave the residence and will never return," and I squinted at him, not sure if I could believe him.
After the stranger assured me that he would never come back, I let him go since I was far too trusting of people.
The following day, he arrived at my door.
We have been best friends since that day four years ago. He moved into the cabin and had the technological know-how to set up a TV with a variety of shows that I had never seen before.
Greyson cherished the opportunity to impart knowledge to me about life, society, packs, and everything else. When his former Alpha began leading the pack in a manner he didn't appreciate, the twenty-year-old had become a rogue. I made an effort to get additional information from him, but he was reluctant to discuss his former pack.
Greyson threw another Dorito at me, jerking me out of my reverie. I was struck in the eye by it despite my best efforts to avoid it."Ouch!" I gripped my eye and yelled. Although it didn't hurt, I was aware that it would trigger Greyson's innate tendency to defend me. Elara, screw you! I'm sorry, let me look," Grey said as he hurried up to me in a panic. When he got near enough, I took the bag from him and threw it all on top of his head.
Greyson's face, shoulders, and head were plastered in orange powder, and he snarled in frustration. "You pretend to be innocent, but you're just as manipulative as everybody else, you little minx."
As I looked at him, I laughed. He was just as handsome as ever, even in Dorito residue. I wasn't sure what could make him unattractive with his tanned muscles and dirty blond hair.
His normally hazel eyes clouded abruptly. His eyes blazed with an emotion I couldn't identify as he took a single stride in my direction. My throat tightened around my breath. I shrugged as he went into his room and said, "I'm going to go shower. “I mimicked his earlier words and mockingly sang after him, "Don't start something you can't finish." In answer, he growled at me and shut the door. He was so obsessed with Doritos, I swear.
In order to remove the cheddar dust from my hair, I decided to follow his example and take a shower. I changed into a white strapless top and jean shorts after taking a shower. I looked at my somewhat hazy reflection in the mirror while brushing my damp hair.
My thick black hair and pale complexion contrasted sharply with my electric blue eyes. My nose and upper cheeks were sporadically covered in freckles. Hey Elara, how about we go out tonight? Grey's voice yelled out from behind my bedroom door, "There's something I want to talk to you about. “All right!" Even though I had no idea what he would want to discuss with me, I yelled back. I knew everything there was to know about him. I loved visiting the human villages, so I wasn't going to complain. They were constantly full of energy and enthusiasm. Additionally, it was one of the few occasions I had the opportunity to socialize with people other than Greyson. Living as a rogue was sometimes lonely.
After putting on my tan sandals, I went downstairs to meet Grey. He looked effortlessly hot in casual pants and a white t-shirt. With gratitude, my gaze swept over his physique. “Elara, my eyes are up here," Grey teased, causing my cheeks to blush. I smirked and shot back, "I was just admiring how well the Moon Goddess did at giving you the Gift of extreme ugliness. “I cocked my head as Grey's voice grew deeper, "Your scent says otherwise, little wolf.” What do you mean?" Perplexed, I asked.
Grey gave a low laugh. “I” You have a lot to learn, Elara." I rolled my eyes. I complained, sounding quite immature, "I'm 20 now, I'm not a kid, you know. am aware," he said, his eyes growing gloomy as he examined me. "Elara, I-" He abruptly raised his head. "Somebody is here."
I scowled. Nothing was audible to me. All I could smell was the sweet aroma of pine and vanilla. "Rogues?" Alert, I asked.
His face was confused as he strained to listen. "I don't believe that. Someone is shouting commands, and rogues don't obey." My heart sank. They would probably murder us because it had to be a pack of wolves. Grey grabbed my hand, and I yanked it away, saying, "We have to go now."I replied to him obstinately, "No. I'm not leaving here." For me, this cabin held great significance. Outside, my grandmother was actually expanding. Elara. We're heading out," Daring me to challenge him, he growled at me. With a sigh, I gave in. He had never misled me before, and I wasn't a particularly combative person.
He extended his hand, which I took, and we made our way to the rear door."F*ck," he muttered. "You're going to need to summon as much energy as you can if we want to get out of here alive."
Despite not understanding what he was talking about, I nodded. If he was afraid, there must have been a good number of wolves. He had eliminated other gangs of outlaws with me in the past, and he never hesitated or showed fear. He was a powerful wolf that enjoyed taking out his rage on other wolves. Greyson loves to slaughter rogues, but I never did. Sigh, guys.
When we emerged from the house, I was startled to see that we were surrounded by roughly twenty wolves. "Should we kill them, Alpha?" Turning to another man—possibly the Alpha—a hideously strong man requested permission.
When I turned to face the guy who was determining our destiny, I was astounded by his stunning emerald eyes.
The tall, strong man with tanned skin and brown hair had green eyes. Without a doubt, he was the most beautiful person I had ever laid eyes on.
I didn't know why I was pulled to him, but I instinctively took a step in his direction. I was surrounded by the mouthwatering aroma.
When I took a stride in his direction, the man with green eyes grinned knowingly. I had the impression that I was possessed.
"What the f*ck are you doing, Elara?" Grey growled as he seized my wrist. She's coming to her mate, "the man arrogantly spoke, victoriously smirking and outstretching his arms, presumably for me to go into. “MATE?!" yelled Greyson. Oh no.
Chapter 2
"Did I stutter, pup?" With a tone full of irritation, the man posed the question rhetorically. "Yes, my friend. That is to say, I'll rip your arms off your body if you don't stop touching my partner." The man's demeanor was informal, and he appeared nearly bored, if not a little annoyed that he had to put up with the small annoyance.
Greyson clenched his jaw. "She's not going anywhere with you," Even so, Grey let go of my wrist and took a defensive stance in front of me. I had only seen him this furious a few previous times when he was battling other outlaws, and his eyes were dark.
With an almost delighted expression, the man arched an eyebrow. "You dare to challenge an Alpha, pup?"
When Greyson was referred to as a pup, he growled. I could tell that it simply made him angrier; it must have been a disparaging phrase for wolves.
The man's statements made my stomach turn. An Alpha. Similar to the Alpha who expelled me from the pack fourteen years prior.
