While still fitting many of the conventions of a very restrictive genre, this manages to have a unique feel to the relationship. Letting a relationship develop based on the characters without initially relying on the mechanic of a mate-bond to establish an immediate connection makes the development far more emotive. It’s very refreshing to have consent valued, but still read a dominant character in a werewolf fiction. It is also refreshing to have a pack that values connection and family rather than using hierarchy to bully, as support is much more accurate to wolffish behaviour.
