Chapter 1

SOPHIA'S POV

My life was a joke.

I had no doubt about that.

My feet moved quickly against the tiled floor of the hospital as a loud sigh trailed through my lips.

I was restless and couldn't keep calm no matter how hard I tried.

Seconds turned quickly into minutes but there still was no sign of the doctor or anyone.

The air was filled with silence and all that could be heard was the ticking sound of the clock.

Finally, the door flung open.

A young  doctor stepped in, and in his hands he held a brown envelope.

I stared at him, then at the envelope.

“Hello sir,” I greeted, drawing closer to him. “Please tell me the result.”

He let out  a soft smile, my chest tightening within me. That smile didn't sit well with me. There was something just off about it. No. Just no.

“Congratulations,” he said with a smile on his lips. “You are expecting a baby.”

The words hit me right in the face like hard rock.

My body froze instantly, and my mind ? It went instantly blank. This couldn't be real. It definitely couldn't. There's absolutely no way I was carrying Mike's child.

“Doctor, are you sure there's no mistake with the test that was carried out? My blood sample could have been mixed up, you know?” I asked in a low, shaky voice, my eyes fixed on him.

He nodded in shock. He must have expected to see me dancing all over the place with joy.

“I am very sure. You are three weeks pregnant.”

My heart shattered into a thousand  pieces as pain ran quickly through me.

Of all evil that could befall me, this was the worst.

I feared nothing more than being pregnant for Mike, and now it was a reality.

How could I possibly carry a child for someone like him? A man who never missed an opportunity to treat me like trash.

I had done everything I could to stop this from happening.

I took prevention pills and made sure I even flushed my system from time to time, but still, I was carrying his child.

Six years of my life with him had been a nightmare, and somehow he still found a way to make it worse by betraying me.

For two whole years, he had slept with other women. Not once, and not even twice.

“The alpha is on the screen,” a voice said behind me.

I turned, and behind  me stood several nurses, their eyes fixed on the big television on the wall.

Even from a distance, I could see Mike clearly.

He had a wide smile on his face, clearly showing off the perfect teeth he loved so much.

In all our six years together, I had never seen him smile that way. Not once had he looked so happy with me.

The women around the television laughed and whispered excitedly. Their joy pulled me closer without my consent.

He was making a speech, and they on the other hand giggled loudly.

This made my stomach turn. If only they knew the truth behind that charming face.

“Any woman who marries him is so lucky,” one nurse said with a dreamy smile.

“I wish it were me,” another added, still grinning.

I turned my face away, my lips pressed together. If only they knew what I knew, they would run far from him.

For six years, Mike and I had been married, and in all that time, I never knew peace or joy.

Every day brought new pain, and not once did it stop.

Soon, I began to feel weak. I managed to grab a seat along the hallway just in time.

At eighteen, I had lost my parents and not long after, the elders of the pack handed me over to Alpha Mike in exchange for food and safety.

“All I need from you is a child,” he told me when I arrived with a small bag of clothes. “Do that, and we will be fine.”

I tried to please him at first but that effort died the day I learned he was cheating on me with other ladies.

My heart shattered, and that day, I promised myself I would never give him a child.

In our third year together, he beat me badly when he found out I was still not pregnant.

“You are useless,” he shouted as I lay on the floor crying.

Now, the doctor's words replayed in my head.

No matter how hard I tried, I could not accept this truth.

“Did you hear the announcement?” Another nurse asked in a shrill loud voice as she joined the group.

“What announcement?” The others asked at once.

“Alpha Mike just revealed his engagement to his lover, the model Ariana.”

I swallowed hard, shocked to the marrow.

Engagement? How dare he do this while still married to me?

My mouth fell open in shock.  It was clear now why he always hid our marriage away from the world.

I'd ask him why, and all  he ever said it was for my safety. Now, it all made sense to me. I was nothing but a tool to him.

I let out  a dangerous laugh, my hands clapping together. My phone rang just then, startling me at first.

“Where are you, you good for nothing woman?” Mike shouted through the phone. I pulled it away from my ear, unable to bear his voice anymore.

“I am at the clinic,” I said calmly. “I am receiving treatment for an infection I got from you.”

“What are you saying?” he barked, his voice thick with anger.

Already, I could picture his face twisting, and the thought brought a strange satisfaction to my heart.

“There's only one man who has ever touched me,” I replied quietly. “That man is you.”

The call ended suddenly. He muttered some incoherent words just before he hung up.

I pulled myself to my feet, a tired sigh trailing through my lips.

I walked down the long corridor, every step heavy and hard.

“Hey.”

The voice startled me. I turned, and right there stood Mike, a few steps away.

His brows pulled together in irritation, and beside him was Arianna clinging to his arm like he was hers.

“I didn't expect to see you here,” I said, pretending not to see the way she held him. “What brought you to the hospital?”

“That is none of your concern,” Arianna replied sharply, her eyes filled with open dislike.

I turned to her slowly. “I was not speaking to you. Next time, wait until you are addressed.”

Anger flushed through her, her fists tightening. She parted her lips to speak but before she could, Mike snapped.

“Enough! You'll not speak to my future wife like that and in front of to control yourself.”

He paused briefly, then continued as if the matter were settled. “There's an important thing you need to do before I leave town.”

I let out a small laugh. “And why would I help you with anything?”

He stared at me for a moment, then pulled out a brown envelope from his jacket. “Take this. You sure have heard the announcement, right?”

“You mean the engagement you announced while still legally tied to me?” I replied coldly.

His jaws tightened, but he ignored the tone in my voice. “Inside that envelope are divorce papers. I want your signature today.”

I froze. That was the last thing I expected.

A strange sense of relief washed through me as I ogled at him.

“Well, that works perfectly,” I said after a moment. “You get your perfect woman, and I get my freedom.”

“Arianna laughed sharply. “Do not act brave. You must be hurting inside. No woman would be happy to be cast aside like this.”

I looked at her, a strange calmness in me. “You are wrong. I feel lighter than I have in years.”

Mike cut in, his laughter bitter. “Then stop wasting time and sign the papers. She hates waiting, and you're testing her patience.”

I folded my arms. “And who said I would sign it just like that? I want something in return.”

Shook crossed both their faces. Mike's eyes widened, as his hands tightened into fists. “Have you lost your mind?”

“There is no need to panic,” I said in a low and calm voice. “What I want is simple.”

Arianna scoffed. “You really do have some nerve speaking like this. Do you even remember who you are talking to?”

I ignored her completely and kept my eyes on Mike. He stayed silent, clearly weighing his options.

Finally, he spoke to me. “What exactly do you want?”

“One million dollars and I'll gladly put my name on your paper,” I announced, a devilish smile on my face.

His countenance turned sour, shocked to the marrow. “What nonsense is this?” he barked. “You must be joking.”

I looked him straight in his eyes. “Do I look like I'm joking to you?” My voice was stern, cold.

He burst into laughter, drew closer to me and without warning, shoved me aside.

I staggered hard, crashing to the floor with a loud thud. A loud cry escaped from my lips as I clutched my side.

Arianna clapped dramatically, a satisfied grin on her face. She lowered herself, gently tapping my cheek. “How pitiful. You're truly pathetic.”

Anger welled inside of me as I glared at her. “If you refuse,” I said through clenched teeth. “I'll drag you to court and expose everything you have done.”

He stopped walking, slowly turning back to face me. His eyes were wild, burning with fury. Just then, fear crawled up my spine.

“You dare threaten me?” He growled.

Before I could move, his hands tightened around my neck. I gasped, my hands clawing at his arms as my breath slipped away.

“Let go of me,” I cried in a weak voice, struggling to break away from him. His grip was tight and hard too.

Suddenly, his grip on me  loosened. I collapsed to the floor with a loud thud, coughing.

“You'll sign those papers,” he said with a note of finality. “Or else, you'll not leave here alive.”

He forced a pen into my trembling hand and shoved the document close to my face.

“Do it now.”

Tears streamed down my cheeks as I stared at the paper. My hands shook as I signed my name, my body reverberating.

He ripped the paper from me as soon as I finished and struck me again and again.

“This is all you are,” he spat. "Trash, and that's all you'll ever be.”

I broke down completely, my sobs loud and helpless. As if that wasn't enough, his foot slammed into my stomach.

Pain exploded through me as I curled around my belly, crying out.

“What's happening here?” A powerful voice rang through the hallway.

Chapter 2

SOFIA'S POV

Mike turned sharply around, his face twisted with fury as he searched for the person bold enough to interrupt him.

A man stepped from the crowd, tall and broad, his shoulders firm and commanding. Dark glasses hid his eyes, yet his presence alone made the air feel heavy.

Fear rushed through me for his sake. No one in this pack ever challenged Mike and lived peacefully after. Still, something about the stranger stirred admiration in me.

He was striking in a way words couldn't explain. I caught myself staring, my mouth slightly open, before I even realized it.

It was clear he wasn't from here. His dark cloak, his sharp features, and the way he carried himself marked him as an outsider.

“What is happening here?” He asked again, his voice strong and unyielding.

Panic rose inside me. I shook my head, slightly motioning for him to leave. Mike would not forgive such disrespect.

Mike stared at him, shocked to the marrow. “Yo
