Chapter 1 - The Eve Before My Mating Ceremony.

Lilian POV:

(The Western Regions)

“My love, I'm going to put it in now.” Lucas whispered in my ear.

“I'm ready.” I assured him, giving him the green light to go ahead.

I couldn't believe I was finally losing my virginity after keeping it for twenty years of my life. I had made the decision from a young age to only give out my body to my husband, so even though our mating ceremony was tomorrow, Lucas was technically my husband already and I was more than thrilled to be losing my virginity to the love of my life.

“Lucas…” I moaned when I felt him inside me, his hips moving in constant rhythm. I threw my head backward and grabbed the sheets with both hands, my senses flooding with ecstasy.

“Do you want me to stop?” Lucas asked, assessing my features but continuing to thrust even deeper.

“No,” I replied, my voice firm and determined. “Mark me as yours.”

I was the textbook definition of an outcast. Right from the moment I was born, it was like I was cursed, and that curse had followed me everywhere; its stench clung to me like a cologne.

It started with my mother dying shortly after I was born, then my father remarried one of our maids who got pregnant for him, and she and her daughter had made sure my life at home was hell. Then at school, everyone thought of me as a freak who caused her mother’s death and who couldn't shift or hear her wolf even at the mature age of twenty.

But Lucas wasn't like the rest; he was different. We met at school and Lucas was the only one who saw me as a human being and not some trash that could be dumped in the garbage or smashed into the locker. No, Lucas loved me.

After three years of dating, Lucas surprised me with a proposal during our graduation. He told me he didn’t care that I didn’t have my wolf, he loved me regardless.

My life had suddenly turned to a fairytale because of this man. Ever since he came into my life, all the pains and suffering I had endured seemed to have vanished under all the love and care he constantly showed me.

“You feel so good,” Lucas exclaimed, his voice low and filled with hot air.

My virginity was my first gift to Lucas, my pledge to be his forever and no one else. This gift would forever mark the last eve before our wedding. Starting tomorrow I would officially be his wife.

“I'm…coming,” I stuttered, nearing my limit with each deep thrust. “Me too.” Lucas cried as he reached climax. He pulled out, and we both released at the same time before he collapsed on the bed beside me.

“That was perfect.” He heaved, his voice barely above a whisper. “It was.” I agreed, relaxing into his open chest as his arms wrapped around me, warm and tight.

I smiled proudly to myself, knowing I couldn’t have given out my virginity in a better way.

My eyes shifted to my white gown, hung at the top of the wardrobe, and a shot of anticipation ran through me. “I can't wait for tomorrow,” I whispered softly as my eyes dimmed and my environment disappeared.

The last thing I was conscious of was Lucas's hand softly rubbing my back. My very own perfect mate, I couldn't wait for the whole world to know that I was his wife.

“Creep!” A voice sounded loudly in my head, and I rolled over uncomfortably in my sleep.

“A wolfless loser,” another jeered, pointing straight at me, and I turned my head the other direction, grunting and covering my head with the pillow in a futile attempt to drown out the voices.

“She killed her own mother.” That was the final taunt I heard before jerking up from the bed.

That was how my nights passed on most days; haunted by the trauma I have constantly had to endure and even on the day of my mating ceremony, the taunts didn’t spare me.

Groggily, I swept my hand over the bedside drawer, searching for my antidepressant drugs. I popped a few pills in my mouth and washed them down using the water from the glass cup; I always try to keep one beside me.

I turned to look at the window, the bright morning sunlight streamed through the window bars, its rays casting a soft golden glow upon me. It was as if the heavens were speaking to me, reminding me that today was a happy day.

“Thank you, goddess.” I smiled, my heart filled with gratitude and joy. I directed my attention towards where Lucas was supposed to be, but his side of the bed was empty.

“Where did he go?” I muttered to myself, scanning the room with my eyes. I saw a paper glued to the mirror and walked over to it. I removed the sticky note glued to the mirror and read what was written on it;

My love,

I’ve gone to get ready. You looked so perfect sleeping; I didn’t have the heart to wake you.

Get ready and come meet me at the venue; I’d wait. After all, you’re the bride.

                  Your loving husband-to-be,

                                       Lucas.

I couldn’t help but smile while reading the note, my heart skipping a beat after every word. Lucas was always surprising me with things like this; just when he does one thing that I think he can’t surpass, he goes ahead and does something else that tops it.

I quickly headed to the shower and got ready. Lucas had booked us a room in one of the top hotels in Westlands, just opposite our wedding venue. I sat in front of the dressing mirror, applying the finishing touches to my makeup.

I paused midway between applying an extra layer of the pink lipstick on my lips, my eyes observing my surroundings from the reflection in the mirror. The loneliness suddenly hit me like a brick.

On a day like this, other brides would have their family with them or their friends, cheering them and helping them get ready, but I didn’t have anyone.

My Stepmother, Sansa would much rather attend my funeral than my wedding. My step sister, Vivian equally despised me and I didn’t have a single person I could call a friend. Even no artisan was willing to take up the job to dress the town’s outcast.

All these hadn’t affected me because I had kept my mind busy with organizing the whole wedding myself, but at this very moment, when I was alone and there wasn’t much to occupy my mind with, the loneliness gnawed at me, eating away at the high walls I had built.

My father, Alpha of the West, the only person who was genuinely happy for me, couldn't even be present for my wedding because of his health condition. The sad irony of the whole situation weighed down on me, like boulders tied to my heart, and in an instant, my vision blurred, tears forming at the rim.

“Just focus on the happy side of things, Lilian,” I reminded myself, trying to keep back the tears from falling. I had promised myself that I wouldn’t let anything steal my joy today. I dropped the lipstick on the table and walked over to the open wardrobe where my wedding dress hung.

I ran my hands across the smooth white lace, with layered cotton fabric assembled around the body of the dress, making it look like a rosebud. My father had gifted me the dress when we went to seek his blessings. “It is your mother’s.” He had whispered weakly, his palm patting the back of my hand lovingly.

Immediately I put on the dress; it felt like a figure suddenly appeared in the room. The figure’s face wasn’t clear, but the palpitations in my heart made it crystal clear who the figure was; it was my mother.

It was like I could feel her presence, like she was here in the room with me. I could feel her warm hug tighten around me and her soft voice telling me how proud she was of me, with a wide smile on her face.

I didn’t know if I was hallucinating seeing someone who died right after she gave birth to me or if this experience was actually real. But, the bond I felt towards the person was the kind of bond that could only be manifested if you’d spent nine months inside the person. A maternal love, which felt like a strong force, willing you to pull down any barrier you had up and just let go of all your strife and worries.

In that moment, with tears pouring out my eyes and my heart feeling light for the first time in years, I thought to myself, “Maybe I wasn’t alone after all.”

After a while, when I felt like I had poured out every hate and every distortion this cruel world had ladened upon me, I was ready to walk to the altar.

I looked at my reflection in the mirror, and for the first time in a while, I was happy with myself. Not happy solely because of Lucas but happy to be me, happy to be Lilian Moon, first daughter of the Alpha of the land of the west.

I made my way to the wedding hall, which was just across from the hotel. My heart pounding against my chest, each step I drew closer to the door.

I was actually getting married! I was actually getting married to the love of my life!! It still felt like a dream, but one I didn’t want to wake up from.

I had checked the time before leaving the hotel room, and this was just about the time when the bride was supposed to come in with her father, who would lead her down the aisle and give her out to the husband, but since my father was too sick to do it, I had to walk in alone. Still, I didn’t care, because I knew I was walking into a life of bliss and love, even if I had to walk in solitude .

As I got to the door leading to the hall where I and Lucas were supposed to be married, a voice froze me in my tracks. “Before the Moon goddess and man, let anyone here stand up or forever hold their peace if they have a reason why these two fated mates, Lucas Stone and…,” My mind went blank to every other thing the officiating Moon Priest had to say when I heard Lucas’s name.

My breath hitched in my throat, and it suddenly got harder for me to swallow. My head was ringing with the words I swore to myself I must have misheard because how on earth was it possible that Lucas, the same person I had trusted and loved with my whole heart, the same person who told me he was my fated mate, the same person who asked me to be his wife, that same man was getting married, but to someone else?

Who…? Why…? How…?

A series of questions swirled in my head, but I didn’t have an answer for a single one.

No! No, this must all be a mistake.

I swung open the wooden doors, my gown flowing behind me, and my heart beating faster by the second. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw who the bride was.

“Vivian?”

Chapter 2 - A Bitter Day.

Lilian’s POV:

My mouth couldn’t seem to close and my eyes were wide with complete shock at the sight unfolding before me. It was like a grotesque painting, laced with familiar faces.

On the altar stood the man I was supposed to be getting married to, dressed in a black fitted suit, hand in hand with a bride who wasn’t me. A bride with a sinister smile spread across her familiar face.

“Vivian?” I exclaimed, confusion flooding my voice as I registered my stepsister, adorned in a white  gown that mirrored mine, standing next to Lucas.

“W-what…is going on here?” I stammered, each word punctuated by deep breaths, a desperate attempt to anchor myself. The hall fell silent as I barged in, the hem of my puffy dress gripped tightly in my hands to steady my trembling legs.

My mind reeled in confusion. Just last night, I had felt the warmth of Lucas in my arms, reaffirming our love that felt eternal. He
