Fate is a cruel master. Selene Carter knows this better than anyone. A rogue werewolf with no pack and no ties, she’s spent years running from her past, avoiding the dangers of the mate bond and the power struggles of the werewolf world. But when she stumbles into Crescent Moon Pack territory, she collides with a destiny she never wanted. Kieran Blackwood, the ruthless Alpha who claims she belongs to him. Kieran never expected a mate, and certainly not a defiant rogue with fire in her veins. He has enough battles to fight with rival packs closing in, betrayals lurking in the shadows, and an ancient force stirring beneath the Lunar Veil. But Selene is more than just his fated mate. She’s a key to something far greater… and far more dangerous. As a bloodthirsty rival, Alpha Callum Draven, hunts her down, and an enigmatic rogue, Elias Gray, warns of an impending catastrophe, Selene is forced to confront the truth she’s at the heart of a prophecy that could shatter the supernatural world. The Lunar Veil is weakening, and if it falls, something far worse than rogue wolves will be unleashed. But the biggest battle she faces isn’t against the enemies lurking in the shadows. It’s against the undeniable bond tying her to an Alpha she refuses to trust. The moon has marked them, Destiny has bound them. But will love be their salvation… or their ruin?

Chapter 1: the Rogue and the Alpha

The scent of pine and damp earth filled Selene’s lungs as she sprinted through the forest, her bare feet barely making a sound against the fallen leaves.

The autumn chill bit at her skin, but she didn’t slow down. She never did. Running was second nature now. Survival depended on it.

She could hear wolves moving in the shadows, tracking her. She wasn’t foolish enough to believe she had wandered into neutral land. This was pack territory. The scent markers were old but clear enough. She had been careless, too focused on finding shelter for the night. And now, she was being hunted.

A growl rumbled through the air, deep and authoritative. It was an Alpha. Selene’s muscles tensed as she shifted direction, her wolf urging her to fight, but she shut that thought down. Taking on an Alpha and his pack was going to be considered a suicide mission.

She needed to escape, not throw herself into a fight she couldn’t win.Ducking beneath low hanging branches, she leaped over a fallen tree, but before she could land, something massive collided with her mid-air.

She crashed onto the damp earth, wind knocked from her lungs, and immediately twisted to shove her attacker off. Strong hands pinned her wrists above her head, and she found herself face-to-face with a man whose presence radiated dominance.

Kieran Blackwood.

Even if she hadn’t seen his face before, she would have recognized him instantly. His scent embers and cedarwood was unmistakable.

His silver eyes glowed under the moonlight, his dark hair falling messily across his forehead.

Selene snarled and bucked beneath him, but he didn’t move an inch. Of course, he wouldn’t.

Alphas weren’t just physically stronger, their wolves carried more power, control, and command.

"You have three seconds to explain why you are trespassing,” Kieran growled. His voice was low and dangerous.

Selene bared her teeth. “I don’t owe you an explanation.”

His grip tightened. “Wrong answer."

She knew what he saw, a rogue, and a threat. In his eyes, she had no place here. She didn’t blame him. Rogues were unpredictable, and dangerous too. But she wasn’t about to cower before him like some submissive omega.

"Let me go!" She bit out.

Kieran tilted his head, studying her like he was trying to place her.

The way his nostrils flared sent unease rippling down her spine. He was scenting her, and that meant he already knew something was wrong. Because his wolf was reacting to her.

Selene’s stomach twisted. "No. Not this. Not him." The thought escaped her lips, a gentle sigh given voice.

His silver eyes darkened, his grip tightening just slightly.

Without waiting for him to speak, she threw her knee up, aiming for his ribs. He shifted just in time to take the blow against his thigh, and the second his weight shifted, she twisted beneath him, using his own force to roll them over.

For a heartbeat, she had the upper hand. But just as quickly, Kieran’s hand closed around her throat, flipping them again until he had her completely beneath him, his body pressing hers into the earth. Selene stilled.

The weight of realization settled between them. The moment stretched, thick with tension. Kieran’s breathing was heavy, his wolf surging beneath his skin.

"You’re mine," he murmured. The words more of a claim than a discovery.

Selene’s chest tightened. She had spent years avoiding this. The mate bond, the weakness it brought, and the loss that always followed. And fate, cruel as ever, had tied her to him.

Kieran’s fingers twitched against her skin, and that moment of distraction was all she needed.

She surged upward, head butting him hard enough to send him reeling. His grip loosened just enough for her to wrench free, rolling away and leaping to her feet. She ran. Because it didn’t matter who he was, it didn’t matter that her wolf howled for him, and the mate bond was already pulling at her insides.

She refused to be claimed, and if Kieran thought otherwise, he was about to learn exactly how wrong he was.

Kieran stared at the empty space where his mate had been just seconds ago. The cold night air did nothing to ease the fire roaring through his veins. His wolf paced inside him, furious, demanding he go after her. Claim her, and drag her back. But he didn’t, because Selene wasn’t just a rogue, she was his, and she had run.

The rustling of leaves signaled approaching footsteps. Kieran didn’t look up as Damien Frost, his Beta, stepped into the clearing, his usual smirk in place.

"That bad, huh?" Damien drawled, eyes flicking toward the path Selene had disappeared down.

“Let me guess, ummm she wasn’t too thrilled about the whole ‘fated mate’ situation?"

Kieran’s jaw clenched. “She will come around."

Damien chuckled. “From the way she nearly cracked your skull open? I’m gonna say… doubtful.”

Kieran shot him a glare, but Damien only grinned wider.

"She’s a rogue,” Kieran said, more to himself than to Damien. “I need to know why? I need to know what happened to her pack."

“Damien’s smirk faded slightly. “You really don’t recognize her?”

Kieran frowned. “Should I?”

Damien exhaled. “You were a kid when it happened, but… her pack was wiped out years ago." "The name of her pack was 'The Shadow fang Massacre.'

The name sent a flicker of recognition through Kieran’s mind. He remembered a brutal slaughter, a pack that had once been powerful, wiped off the map in a single night.

The few survivors were never found. Selene had been there. Something dark settled in his chest. That meant she had been running for years. Alone, and fate had brought her here. To him.

Kieran’s grip tightened at his sides. He had already decided. She wasn’t getting away.

Selene’s hands trembled as she lit the small fire inside the abandoned cabin. The warmth did nothing to soothe the chill creeping through her bones. She had felt it. The bond. The way her wolf had reacted to Kieran’s presence, and to his touch. It was a chain, and she had spent too long fighting to be free. She couldn’t afford to be weak now.

A rustle outside sent her instincts flaring. She grabbed the dagger at her hip, silent as she pressed against the cabin wall, listening. She heard footsteps. Selene’s grip tightened on the hilt.

It was not Kieran, he wouldn’t have let himself be heard. Then who? A sharp knock on the door made her stiffen.

"Relax,” a smooth voice called from the other side. “I come in peace.”

Selene narrowed her eyes. She waited, then slowly cracked the door open. A man stood outside, arms crossed over his chest. His dark hair was tied back, blue-gray eyes far too knowing as they studied her.

"Elias,” she said flatly. Elias Gray. A rogue, like her but not like her at all. He knew things. He had connections she didn’t trust.

"Long time,” Elias murmured.

Selene didn’t lower the dagger. “What do you want?”

Elias smiled, but there was nothing friendly in it.

"To warn you,” he said. “You think your biggest problem is Kieran?” He leaned in slightly. “You have no idea what’s coming.”

Her stomach twisted, because Elias didn’t deal in idle warnings, and if he was here… something far worse than an Alpha’s claim was on its way.

Chapter 2: The Hunt Begins

Selene didn’t sleep, She sat near the dwindling fire, staring at the cabin door, and listening.

The night had settled into uneasy silence, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves outside. The air was thick with something she couldn’t shake.

Elias’s warning echoed in her mind. “You think your biggest problem is Kieran?

You have no idea what’s coming.” She should have ignored him, and walked away, but Elias didn’t deal in pointless conversations. If he had come to find her, It meant something was wrong, and she wasn’t sure she was ready to find out what.

A gust of wind sent a sharp creak through the wooden walls. Selene tensed. Her wolf was restless, pacing inside her, sensing something. Then she smelled it, smoke.

Selene shot to her feet just as a wall of flames roared to life outside the cabin.

Trapped, She didn’t think she moved, grabbing her knife and ramming the back window with her shoulder. The wood cracked but didn’t give. The fire sp
