"I, Alpha Devon..." he began, but I cut him off. The words I feared to hear was what he was about to say. "I, Alpha Devon, reject Bella as my mate!" His voice was full of finality, leaving no room for negotiation. I felt the floor give way beneath my feet, and my heart sank into my stomach. Chapter 1 My 18th Birthday

Bella’s POV.

It was a soft knock, the kind that might easily go unnoticed by someone who wasn't paying attention. But I heard it, and I opened my eyes in darkness. The only light was the pale moonlight filtering through the window.

I sat up in bed, yawning with the blankets wrapped around my legs. The knock came again, louder this time. I shifted my legs out of the blanket, placing them on the cool wooden floor. The knocking continued, more insistent now. I swung my legs around, standing up and walking to the window.

I pulled the curtains aside, and there he was, standing there in the moonlight, a wide smile on his face. His white teeth shone in the darkness.

"Happy Birthday my love," he whispered, holding out a bouquet of flowers.

My gaze flickered from his face to the clock on the wall. It was exactly 12:00 am. My birthday, finally I was Eighteen.

I smiled, and the butterflies in my stomach did a little dance. I climbed out of the window, and he caught me as my feet touched the ground. I adjusted my clothes, my smile still wide.

"Thank you," I said, accepting the flowers from him. I hugged him tightly, and he hugged me back.

"I love you," he said, his voice soft in my ear. I had heard him say it countless times before, but it still made my heart flutter every time.

"I love you, too," I whispered, my face buried in his chest.

Devon and I had been inseparable since we were children. He was the Alpha, I was only a mere Omega. It was frowned upon for Alphas and Omegas to associate with one another, but that didn't stop us.

Growing up, the other pack members would tease me anytime I tried to talk about him, saying he had nothing to do with a "lowlife" like me. I would always tell him about it but he would tell me to just not listen to them by ignoring them.

As we grew older, the teasing turned into insults, so we decided to keep our relationship a secret. We could only meet in secret, but it was enough for us.

He slowly kissed my forehead and whispered, "Meet me in the woods at 8pm."

I nodded, smiling before he helped me climb back through the window. I waved as he walked away.

Devon was 21, and his gray eyes were one of the things that made him so alluring. He was the hottest guy in the pack, and that was not because he was the Alpha. Every girl wanted him, but he only had eyes for one girl: me.

That's why most of the girls in the pack hated me. They saw me as competition because they knew we were friends and he was closer to me than other omegas, but I didn't want anything to do with them. I only wanted Devon.

I jumped, startled by the sound of a voice behind me. I turned to see the head slave standing there, her eyes fixed on me, cold and unyielding.

"What are you doing here?" she demanded, her tone leaving no room for argument.

"Nothing," I said, my voice trembling.

"Go back to bed," she ordered, her expression stern.

I scurried to my bed, pulling the covers over me as if they could protect me from her judgmental gaze.

This was my life, nothing more than a slave. I had never known my parents, my mother left the world when she gave birth to me. My father had vanished without a trace when I was just a baby. Some people in the pack called me bad luck orphan, and I couldn't help but wonder if they were right.

I couldn’t even think anymore as my eyes began to close on their own and darkness consumed me.

"Happy birthday," I heard a chorus of voices sing. I opened my eyes, disoriented, and saw Ariana, her mother, and her father standing in my room, smiling at me.

My eyes welled up with tears as they sang to me, and I blinked them away, not wanting to show my emotions. I had never had a birthday party before, never been celebrated by anyone. It was a strange and wonderful feeling, and I wasn't sure how to react.

I pulled them all into a hug, squeezing them tightly. "Thank you," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.

"Oh, don't cry, Bella," Ariana said, wiping some icing on my cheek. I couldn't help but laugh.

Ariana and I had been friends since we were children. She was not an omega like me, but her parents had always treated me with kindness, and she had followed their example.

She was the only person who had shown me true love and acceptance. Her mother smiled at me as she spoke."Make a wish!"

I closed my eyes, ‘moon goddess make Devon my mate.’

Today was my 18th birthday, a day that marked the start of a new chapter in my life. On my 18th birthday, I would find my mate, the person I was destined to be with. It was also the day I would transform into my wolf form for the first time.

I was nervous and excited, not knowing what to expect. What if I wasn't paired with Devon, the person I loved? What if I didn't transform into a wolf?

"She's wishing to be with Devon," Ariana said teasingly, making me open my eyes with a smile.

"Stop wasting your time, child," her mother said, a hint of sternness in her voice. "Devon and you can't be together."

"Mum!" Ariana yelled, her cheeks turning red.

"That's the truth, and someone needs to tell her," her mother said, her tone unapologetic.

I smiled, trying to hide my hurt and anger. "Let's cut the cake," I said, changing the subject.

After the cake was cut and eaten, we had a little chit-chat, and then they left. I stood up to start doing my chores, not wanting to incur the wrath of the head of servants. She was a harsh and bitter woman, who had no tolerance for any mistakes, no matter how small. She seemed to have a particular dislike for me but I honestly don't know the reason. She couldn't have found out I was dating Devon though.

"Once I'm Luna," I thought to myself, "I will make her suffer."

By the time I had finished my chores, the sun was setting. Casting a warm glow over the pack. I wrapped myself in a shawl, stepping out of the window and onto the damp grass.

I gently made my way to the woods, where I knew Devon was waiting for me.

Getting to our secret spot, I immediately caught sight of him making my heart flutter, and I hurried to meet him. He was inside the stream swimming and he smiled immediately he saw me.

I dropped the shawl smiling broadly as I pulled my gown over my head, leaving me in just my bra and pants. I stepped into the water, the cool liquid swirling around my ankles. We splashed water at each other, laughing and giggling like children.

He drew me closer, his hands gently resting on my waist. I shivered as his breath caressed my face. He reached up and pushed a strand of hair out of my eyes. I looked up at him, his gray eyes shining in the fading light.

“Happy birthday my world,” he said, peeking my cheeks. "Promise me you'll never leave me," he said, his voice low and husky.

The earnestness in his eyes, the sincerity in his voice, it took my breath away. I knew, in that moment, that I would never leave him.

"I promise," I whispered, my heart full to bursting.

"What if you leave me?" I asked, a playful smirk on my face.

"You know I could never leave you," he said, his voice soft and sincere.

"What if, I asked?" I pressed.

He laughed, then said, "May the moon goddess make me blind if I ever think of leaving you." I laughed, and playfully hit his chest.

"What a silly thing to say!" I teased. He pulled me close, holding me tight. His lips crashed into mine.

As our lips met, I felt a strange tingling sensation course through my body. My bones ached and groaned, as if they were being stretched and contorted. I gasped and pulled away, trying to understand what was happening to me.

Chapter 2 The Shift And The Mate

Bella’s POV.

Suddenly, I felt a tingling in my wrists, and I could feel my body beginning to change. My limbs stretched out, my bones creaking as they lengthened. My bra and pant fell away, my skin rippling and changing. I let out a howl as I fully shifted into my wolf form, my fur dark and glossy in the moonlight.

I watched as Devour's eyes widened in surprise, his eyes flickering with admiration. I shook my tail, relishing the freedom of my wolf form. I walked to the stream, my reflection gazing back at me. My wolf wagged her tail, as if in greeting. I smiled, feeling a surge of connection with this inner part of myself.

"Hey," I said, a sense of affection and familiarity in my voice. "What's your name?" I asked.

"I don't have one," she replied. "You can give me one."

I thought for a moment, considering a name that felt right. "How about Mia?" I suggested.

"Nice name," she replied, her tail wagging with approval.

"I can't wait to start our
