Chapter 1: College
The light tapping on the roof made its way to my ears even with the sound coming from my laptop. The effect of the stopping rain on the roof was a little distracting as I was seeing the popular series "The Elites" and enjoying every bit of it until my bliss was cut short.
"Amelia!" my dad yelled from the stairs. I rolled my eyes in a bid to show some sort of disapproval but slowly made my way down the stairs reluctantly . Then it hit me while I was being called.
"Sh*t" I cursed under my breath and my heart raced in remembrance to what I had done.
"Why on earth would you ride in that car? he growled.
"I didn't mean to dad." I tried explaining.
"Save it Mel, you're grounded!" He ordered before retreating to the balcony.
Dad always assumed grounding me was the toughest form of punishment and he was right because I hated it as it meant I couldn't be near Hailey, my best friend since middle school or Liam, my boyfriend. My heart sank at the thought of them.
Earlier today, I rode in his favorite car while I was going to get 'girl stuff' in a store and I crashed the car. I felt bad about ruining his car but I couldn't inform him because I knew how he'd react to it so I opted for the safer option and left it parked in the garage till he found out.
"Honey, you should take it easy on her." I heard Christina say from the balcony.
Christina Larry, my step mom, is a slender, tall woman with short, straight, deep brown hair. She's a popular model and appears on Magazine cover almost weekly. I like to think she's a celebrity even though she always insisted that she isn't, like it was going to change my perception of her.
I made my way up the stairs back to my room. There was nothing to lose from being grounded anyway. I was leaving for college in a few days and I was more than eager to get away from home.
I got accepted into Stanford University which is about an hour flight from LA where I live with my family. I'd been in Los Angeles all my life and a change of environment was exactly what I needed. I got up to my room and twisted the doorknob immediately because I knew Christina would be here any minute with a rehearsed apology on behalf of my dad. I wasn't ready to subject myself to the torment of listening to some sort of consolation from her, a nearly perfect woman. At least, that was the impression she liked to come off as. I closed the laptop and plugged in my earphones shuffling through my music playlist. My phone dinged indicating I got a text and Hailey's name popped up on my screen.
"Hailey: We need to talk_4:22pm"
I read the text again and looked at the sender to confirm I just got a text from my traitor of a friend. The nerve!
I recently found out she had been screwing my boyfriend, Liam two months after we started dating right under my nose! The signs were there but I was too slow to catch on. Ever since I found out, I had been blaming myself, letting myself believe I was never good enough for either of them but I'd done enough of that already. It was time to step up and stop punishing myself for their misdeeds.I knew I had to get away from the same faces I had seen all my life.
****************************I walked into the dorm room with a skipping heart. I wasn't sure of what to expect. I strode slowly towards the room whose door was boldly written "Daisy" since that was where I was allocated to. I hesitated before opening the door and took a deep breath. I pushed the door open and I was welcomed by a bone crushing hug.
"Hey roomie." she chirped with a smile.
I shifted uncomfortably and she retreated.
"Elle." she stretched out her hands still smiling. She had brown long hair with beautiful curls at the tip. Her green emerald eyes was glued to mine. She was probably 5'7 with tanned skin and straight legs.
"Amelia." I returned while taking her hand.
"That was weird." I said to her. I could have been a thief, kidnapper or something. You go around hugging people like that?
"Well, it's great that you're neither." she replied.
"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable, just wanted to be a little friendly" she said and walked to a bed.
I took that as an opportunity to take a proper view of the room. It wasn't a very large room. White walls, two dressers, two reading tables with a big lamp on each of them. Two wardrobes were on each side of the room and two medium sized beds. It had two windows with magenta curtains draped over them. A mini kitchen was at the rear end of the room and a closed door which I guess was the bathroom was by the side. I walked to the bed she sat on which I guessed was hers since it had been well laid.
"Elle, I didn't mean it that way. I was just saying there was no harm in taking a little caution."
"I know right." she said smiling.
I smiled back and knew we'd get along well as roommates. I began unpacking my stuff and was tired by the time I was done. I had cereals and settled on the bed for a sleep when Elle began asking questions.
"So, what high school did you attend?" she asked.
"Greenwood High." I answered. She went on with other questions and I answered sleepily.
The last thing I heard before drifting off to sleep was Elle excusing herself to pick up a call.
Chapter 2: Jerk
I woke up to the melodious sound of my roommate humming softly. I opened my eyes then shut it immediately due to light penetrating through the very thin curtains of the room.
"Good morning." I found myself saying after opening my eyes slowly.
"Good morning beautiful. I was going to wake you but remembered how exhausted you were yesterday. Tell me you don't have morning classes please." Elle replied, snapping her head towards me quickly.
"F*ck." I cursed, jumping out of bed. I checked the time on my cell phone, 7:39am. I had exactly 21minutes to prepare and get to my class. I face palmed myself and got into the bathroom almost immediately. Thankfully, I got my bath supplies out last night. I took my bath hurriedly and heard Elle asking what I would have for breakfast.
"I'll sort it out after the class." I replied.I got out of the bathroom seven minutes after I went in, took out a short, white sundress from my wardrobe and began moisturizing my skin. I got read
