22-year-old Evelyn Carter is attempting to start over in California while avoiding her past. She will be embarking on a new career path as a private school teacher. She is smart, attractive, and doesn't put up with nonsense. Who wouldn't notice her? However, what happens when she attracts the attention of someone unwilling to let her go? Who wants her and nothing else after falling in love at first sight? A 25-year-old billionaire CEO and single father Lucian Carrington. He takes what he wants and he also is a very dangerous man. All it needed was one look at a stunning woman to realize she was HIS, even though he doesn't believe in relationships because they always end. Preview: Miss Carter, you will be mine. I say firmly. "Release my arm Mr. Carrington before I force you to." She says, seeming to smile at me. I give her a sly smile. Squeezing my wrist with her other hand, she twists it uncomfortably. I gave a painful hiss. "Don't underestimate me, Mr. Carrington." "This is the only time I will allow you to walk away from me Miss Carter." She glares at me as she turns. "Mr. Carrington, I am no possession of yours." I was left standing there when she opened the classroom door and left.
Chapter 1
Evelyn's POV
Flipping over, I hit my loud alarm clock, which I turned off. I begin stretching and letting my eyes flutter open. The bright morning light is seeping in with the sunrise coming up.
Throwing the duvet off my legs, my feet take me to the curtains before I yank them open. Stepping out on my private balcony, I take in the sight below me.
The early waves are crashing in, and no one is in sight to see. I close my eyes, inhale deeply, and enjoy the breeze rushing through my hair.
I walk back inside and begin throwing my hair up into a ponytail before going into my closet. Throwing on some tight leggings with a sports bra and some tennis shoes, I decide to peek in on my best friend to make sure she got home okay last night.
Opening the door, my eyes catch sight of her sprawled out on her bed. I smile at her before closing the door and getting out of our home. I lock the door before walking down to the beach. The wind is blowing my hair while I begin my morning run.
Hi, my name is Evelyn Carter. I am 22 years old and an appointed teacher for Dalton Academy. I recently got hired there after leaving my family's business and family in New York.
I have long, blonde hair that falls to my waist, paired with blue eyes. I have been complimented on my appearance, but I don't pay much attention to it.
Everyone is beautiful in their way. I am currently living with my long-time best friend, Cami Taylor. A current bartender at one of the nightclubs here in town.
We worked together this previous summer, but now that I am going to be teaching, I recently quit. Living here for two months now has turned me into a beach bum. I love it here! The constant warm weather and the never-ending nightlife. You can never get bored.
"Seriously, this early in the morning, Evelyn?" My best friend groans walking into the kitchen. Her hands were rubbing down her face. I snicker at her before handing her a cup of coffee.
"How was your night, Cam?" My tone amused while putting some milk in her coffee for her while she gets settled on a bar stool.
"Long." She elongates before sighing and taking a sip of the coffee. "At least the money is good." She gives me a sheepish smile, which makes me smile in return. "How do you find the energy to get up before the sun every morning just to run?" She scrunches up her nose in disgust, thinking about working out.
"Not all of us could be blessed with your beauty, Cami," I say, rolling my eyes. She begins laughing hysterically.
"Girl, please... You don't have to run, and you would still look Amazing." She stresses out, causing me to chuckle.
"Whatever you say, Cami."
Cami is an incredible, spunky spirit. She is outgoing and has made me come out of my shell. She is beyond gorgeous, and I would be lost without her.
We met back in grade school, and her father was in the military. She got relocated, but we kept in touch even with the move. She lost her dad about 3 years ago and her mother couldn't stay in this house anymore so she invited me to move in with her which I gladly did with my current situation.
"So I got to work tonight, do you want to come?" She asked, looking at me. "You know the team would love to see you again."
"Yeah, I think it would be fun." I smile thinking about all the incredible people I've gotten to meet working there. The club was called Midnight till Sunrise. It had been here for many years and was a favorite for locals.
"Great!" Cami says gleaming. She walks over to me and kisses me on the cheek. "Alright, sunrise, this goddess needs to take a shower." She states dramatically while flipping her hair over her shoulder, causing me to giggle at her. She is certainly one of a kind.
"Welcome back, Sunrise!" The club manager says with open arms. I run up to him and hug him tightly. He squeezes me back. "You miss us yet?"
"You know I love this place!" I say smiling big.
"Good, because you should be an angel and help behind the bar tonight!" He says, giving me puppy dog eyes. My eyes bulge open at him while my jaw drops open.
"Oh, come on, Evelyn! I'm desperate. Liz called in, and I can't put Cami back there since she is running the floor." He pleads with me. I smirk at him and put my hands on my hips, giving him an amused look. He puts his hands together, acting like he is praying. Rolling my eyes, I sigh in defeat. He thrust his hands up, knowing he just won.
"You owe me, Sam!" I shout as I watch him retreat. Looking over to Cami, who is grinning, I glare at her, and she just begins skipping away. "Thanks for the help, Cami!" I yell at her.
"You're welcome!" She sings smiling over her shoulder. I go to the lockers and put on a pair of the short black shorts and a plain black t-shirt. I don't bother putting my hair back and let my blond hair cascade down my back. I sigh before heading to the bar. Here we go!
The night is going by pretty smoothly. I have Kurt behind the bar with me, and the crowd is a decent size tonight.
Cami and Lexi are running the floor with Sam watching over everything. I am serving the drinks and only had a few guys get a little too flirty, but Kurt helped keep them in check. The night was almost over when Sam decided to surprise me.
"Alright, everyone, you're in for a treat tonight! Our own Sunrise has returned to sing for us tonight." I glare up at him and begin shaking my head. The crowd begins turning towards me and clapping. Cami comes up to me and begins pulling my arm towards the stage.
"Cami, stop! I don't want-" I don't even get to finish before she shoves me on stage, sticking her tongue out at me. I look at Sam, who has a sheepish smile.
"Here she is, everyone- Please welcome... Sunrise!" He announces like I'm a celebrity. I glare at him one last time before he runs off stage. I turn towards the crowd, who are all looking at me, interested to see what I will do.
"Hi everyone, I apologize, I didn't know I would be singing tonight, but I will sing one of my favorites," I say before sighing and closing my eyes.
Breathing' by Ariana Grande is starting to play. I closed my eyes and began singing the song. Letting the lyrics run off my tongue, I just enjoy the song.
Just keep breathing' and breathing'
I look away from the stranger over to Sam, who is walking back on stage, clapping. I bow, handing him the mic back while he just smiles proudly at me.
"Let's give another round of applause for our little Sunrise!" He says and continues clapping while everyone else cheers louder. I just bowed my head again and gave a small wave, walking off the stage. Cami comes up and hugs me tightly while I feel a lot of eyes still on me.
My eyes are searching for the stranger, but I don't see him there anymore. I shrug and walk behind the bar again, where Kurt gives me a side hug.
The night wound down, Cami and I ended up leaving early and heading home since Sam was grateful for my help. The moment we get home, I throw myself on my bed and snuggle into it. I drift off to a deep slumber and wonder what awaits me at my new job next week.
Chapter 2
-Lucian's POV
I hear my alarm ringing and jump out of bed. I switch it off, wipe my eyes with my fingers, and then lie back in bed and glance at my side.
I couldn't recall the name of the woman from last night, but she's here. She is lying on her stomach with her brunette curls spread out over the pillow. Last night, she did nothing for me. She was merely practical. After leaving her there, I got out of bed, put on some sweats, and left my room to go into my home office.
My housemaid Tessa replies, "Sir, I'm sorry to bother you, but your son is refusing to eat his breakfast."
"I will take care of him, you take care of the woman that is still currently in my room."
"Right away sir." She leaves my office with a bow. My employees are aware of my methods and don't inquire. I will only speak directly with Tessa and Leo. They've been with me for a long time.
I enter my son's room after leaving my office. Ethan, my son, sits by h
