Chapter 1: Reunions and laughter

Canada, Toronto-2010

-Zoey-

I've just arrived in Canada,my parents moved here a month ago.Not being ready to come with them I took my own time to get here.I know I'll miss being in my rose garden and visiting the NGO,but I'll surely make time to go back to all that I said to myself.

“Welcome Zoey,”My parents and friend Deveny said said to me.Embracing me in a tight hug.Deveny gave me a weird look after my parents took my bags to my room

. “What now?”I asked her playfully.

“Zoey, I didn't think you'd take decades to come,”She responded with a smile.

“I'm here now , you'll show me all those places you talk about.”

We headed to my room,it was just the way I wanted my bed dressed in purple, my walls painted purple and even my table ,closest and light was purple.My love for the purple color just made me admire everything that had it on.

When I finished unpacking while chatting with Deveny.Mum came in cutting our conversation .

“Ladies we'll be attending a party at the Petal mansion,get ready we don't have enough time”,she said and slammed the door.

“What the hell,the Petal mansion!”Deveny jumped with excitement.

“You seem to know them huh?”I asked her curiously.

With more excitement,she responded “Zoey the Petals just moved here a few weeks ago, they are the talk of the town ,they have two daughters and of course the center of attention who's said to be the heir to their empire.”

“Looking at how you describe the heir I'm suspecting you of wanting to be the empress Petal,”I teased her.

“Well if I get a chance like that I'd surely dive into that ocean,”she responded with a naughty laugh.

“Come on Devy so you are saying, you would,” before I even finished she cutted my question,

“Zoey I didn't mean it that way, I just want to see him.”

“Maybe kiss him too,” I joked at her.

We looked at each other and broke into a laugh,the door opened and it was mom again , she lifted her eyes shocked that neither of us was dressed.I quickly pulled out a lovely dress.

”These would look great on Deveny right mom? ,”I asked her with a smile

“Girls you have an hour to get ready, time's not on our side,”She said then closed the door as she left.

We quickly bathed than ran through my wardrobe, at least Deveny was around so I was saved from the outfit choosing stress.

“Damn Zoey you should consider being a model that dress looks rubbishing on you,” Deveny complimented me.

“Well looks like the Petal heir will be finding it hard to keep his eyes off you tonight,”I responded to her.

Before we even bursted into laughter mum came in again.

“Wow beautiful ladies it's time to go,”

“After you madam,” we said, smiling at her.

We went to the car while my mum went to fetch her purse.Finally we were all in the car.Our driver drove past many buildings and Deveny just seemed to know them all.

In no time we're at the mansion already,it was so huge and seemed like one you'd only see in imaginary places.I could see that Devy was already lost in its walls probably trying to spot the Petal heir I thought to myself.

We were greeted cordially, and then a group of businessmen approached to greet my parents. We kissed mom on the cheeks before walking for some drinks; "take care," she muttered and smiled.

I stopped the waiter just as he was about to pass, grabbed two glasses of champagne for Deveny and l.We drank while chatting about her new project.

Suddenly, Deveny went to the restroom, and I started looking around with my eyes. That is when I spotted an old lady who had just dropped her purse, so I immediately placed my glass on the table and raced to pick it up for her..

"Thank you very much, my dear," she sweetly said.

"You are welcome, ma'am," I said with a smile.

"What is your name, my dear?" she asked me.

Before I could reply to her query, a lady came to get her; it was evident she was her nanny; her attire made it simple to tell.

Just as I was ready to return to the table with my champagne, I bumped into a tall strong dashing guy with blue eyes, a cute dimpled smile, and black curly hair.I could tell by his attire that he slept on money, and his fragrance was so intense that I lost my equilibrium and was about to fall.

When he drew me in, holding me by the waist, his pull was so powerful that I could feel how near my lips were to his, and I almost forgot we were surrounded.When a camera light shone at us, he immediately moved back.

Then he remarked, "You should not have come this far to get near to me; when will you girls here realize that I am not for you to throw yourselves at?"

"What did you just say?"I replied by raising my brows.

"Oh, you are startling, huh? I can see the intentions of such phony innocent glances from a distance," he said, dissatisfied.The people around started staring at us.

Deveny stopped me before I could respond, "Zoey and the Petal heir are romancing in public."

I asked her, "What-wait what?" shock.

Without answering, she introduced herself to him: "Hi Mr Petal, my name is Deveny, but you can call me Devy; I am Zoey's best friend,”She said, smiling at him.

I excused myself and went to the bathroom.

While Deveny and the Petal heir appeared to be having a nice time, she had no idea what happened between us.

One of the maids interrupted them right then.

"Sir, your father wants to see you"

"I shall be with him shortly," he answered.

While Deveny despised the interruption in her heart, she had no choice but to start looking for me.On my way out of the restroom ,I bumped into my mother.

"You have to meet someone extremely important," she said, bringing me to where my father was standing with some friends.

"This is Zoey, my daughter; she arrived here today from the United States after f completing her Masters."

"Well, that is wonderful, congrats," a woman that stood next to us remarked.

"Where is Mike?," her husband inquired.

"I am here, dad," said a voice familiar to my ears.

"Well, Zoey, this is Mike, and Mike, this is Zoey, who just arrived from the States today," the woman continued.

As I was ready to properly greet him, our gazes connected, and I could not believe that the same man who had just yelled at me for accidentally bumping into him, which he saw as purposeful, was the one my mother had pulled me to greet.

I could see the astonishment on his face, but the amount of disrespect he had shown did not fit an heir, I reasoned.That was when the old lady I had previously assisted with the purse appeared.

"Oh, it is you again, my dear," she said.

"Do you know her mother," Mike's father asked.

"Yes, she helped me pick up my purse earlier; what is your name, my dear?" she inquired.

"Zoey," I answered with a smile.

I then met several of my parents' relatives and acquaintances. Mike Petal approached me, and I just was not in the mood to be insulted again.

"Zoey I...," he got slashed by a gorgeous lady in a red dress.

"Mike , I have been looking for you all over," she murmured, kissing him on the cheek.

My phone rang, so I left them. It was Deveny urging me to get to the car since it was time to go home; I immediately made my way to the door, but Mike blocked me again.

"May I please have a word with you?" he said, gently.

Chapter 2.

Canada, Toronto -2010

Zoey

"Wake up, Zoey," Deveny whispered, standing alongside my bed.

"You have a lot of gist to pour," she said, pulling my blanket.

I instantly opened my eyes, and the bright light from outside was simply too much for my eyes.I rushed out of bed and drew the drapes to block the light.

"You are up early; what were you saying?" I questioned, running my hands through my hair.

"I want to know what happened between you and Mike last night," she stated, suspiciously.

"Nothing huge, I accidentally bumped into him, but he made it seem like I was flinging myself at him," I said with a serious expression.

"What, after posing for a photoshoot, you are telling me he insulted you?" she asked.

I was becoming frustrated with the way she was inquiring about this Mike guy, so I told her what happened before she arrived presenting herself, but she did not believe me because he was apparently being a gentleman
