Chapter 1

AURORA'S POV

Staring at my reflection in the mirror, I grinned foolishly like I had struck gold, my wolf howling excitedly in my head.

“It's today!” I exclaimed excitedly, twirling and watching the flowy dress I wore shine under the light.

I felt my wolf surface, the growing urge to dominate coarsing through my veins as my eyes flickered.

My eyes flashed as the door suddenly creaked open, a head popping in.

“Can I come in?” A deep masculine voice sounded, causing my smile to widen.

Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

I smiled softly, watching as my lover, Roland strode in with an equal grin as mine.

“Hey,” Roland, called softly walking behind me. “You ready?” He asked, locking gazes with me in the mirror, and I smiled.

“You bet!” I grinned, watching as his green orbs swirled with love for me, which made my wolf shift in glee.

He wasn't my mate, but Roland was the best one for me.

I believe this with all my heart.

With his eyes fixed intently on mine, Roland cupped my face in his hands. The touch was warm and reassuring. But my fears whispered otherwise.

"Don't make me regret the decision I have made," I said to him with a load of emotions etched in my tone.

His eyes never shifted from mine.

It felt like he was looking straight into my heart, and he was.

Roland understood me better than any person out there. We had been mates for a long while, and it was only proper I did this if we wanted to be together.

"Don't you trust me Aurora?”

I quickly shook my head, biting my lip.

It wasn't that I didn't trust him… it was about him taking care of my father's legacy I was worried about.

I let out at sigh, dismissing the thoughts out of my head, another snagging doubt rearing it's head.

“What if you choose another person as your Luna?”

He grinned at me and said, “That will never happen.”

For some odd reason, the statement swept my anxiety away. I was reassured that he would not betray me.

★★★★★★

Being led down the halls, my heart pounded, as stares pricked my skin from all sides.

The crowd parted like a sea as we made towards the podium, anxiety washing through me.

Hush whispered, filled the banquet halls along as we sat down, my wolf wriggling at the back of my head from the amount of attention she was receiving.

I placed my palm on my cheat, feeling my thumping heart.

After what would seem like an endless wait, the day was finally here.

I, Aurora, Alpha princess of the Rising moon pack, would become the Luna.

I could not wait for my mate, Roland, to make the proclamation in front of the entire pack. While I would be crowned Luna of the most powerful pack in the Midlands, he would be crowned Alpha king!

“What's taking your mate so long?” My personal maid whispered beside me, the urgency in her tone dripping.

I frowned, my eyes darting around as I tried looking for Roland's figure while assuring me . “Don't worry, I am sure he's on his way.”

What's taking him so long? I wondered.

It was time for the final rite, and he was needed to be present for the official handover.

The banquet had already started, and the pack elder was about to call us to the podium, but there was still no sign of Roland anywhere.  “I think I'll go look for Roland.”

“My maid had never been fond of Roland, and hated the fact that I was giving the position of being alpha away, so I knew her  next words weren't going to be pleasant.

”It's fine.” I swiftly interjected, standing to leave. “I'll just go ask the other maids around.”

With that, I left before she could say more.

Curious glances were thrown my way, as I led myself out of the ceremony, but I didn't let it bother me.

Biting my lower lip, I strode to the back hall, heading towards the mansion, my heart racing as different scenarios flooded my head.

Was he scared  as well?

Suddenly, two maids came from a bend, their expressions strange as they whispered hushly amongst themselves.

“Did you see that?” the first maid asked, warily eying the stairs, but failing to notice me.

“Yeah,” the second replied. “How shameless! I knew that man was up to no good!”

“Me too! But it's a shame he had to cheat on Miss Aurora with her friend.”

“What?” I asked in disbelief, my sudden intrusion scaring them.

“M–miss Aurora,” they stammered, looking flustered, but I wasn't bothered about that.

“What did you say?” I repeated, feeling a pang in my heart. “Who did you say was cheating on whom? And which Aurora are you guys talking about?”

Surely it wasn't me… right?

“M– madam, please forgive us, we only found out now.” The first maid pleaded.

“Shut up, and answer the question!” I snarled, my eyes flickering as I breathed heavily. “What do you mean by your words? Are they true or are you slandering my mate your future alpha?”

“It's the truth madam!” They whimpered, baring their necks in submission.

I felt my head go blank in an instant, tears streaming down my cheeks.

“It's not possible,” I muttered, shaking my head. “It can't be.”

Roland and I had been mates for years despite how badly my father hated him, we had come from a very long way.

Roland wouldn't do this to me. He wouldn't cheat!

I clenched my fists, glaring at the two maids who knelt before me. “Stay here! Once I confirm that you both are lying, I'll have your heads chopped off!” I said, storming off.

I dashed up the stairs, my hands shaking as I gripped the banisters.

Please moon goddess, don't let this be true.

I prayed, panting as I rushed up the stairs in my heavy dress.

My wolf whined lowly in my head, and deep down, I had a panging feeling the maids were right.

Stopping in front of his door, my hands hovered above the knob, as I hesitated to push it open.

Please, please please moon goddess.

I prayed one last time, pushing the door open, a dagger flying straight into my heart at the sight before me.

“R–Roland,” I called out his name softly, the word, a bitter taste to my mouth as tears streamed down my eyes.

Laying on the bed, with clothes strewn all around, was my mate, Roland, and my best friend Kate.

The awful stemch of s*x hung in the air, making it undeniable what had happened.

Seeing me burst in, Roland's face was filled with shock, but Kate's held a sinister look.

“What are you doing here?” Roland asked, quickly covering himself with the duvet.

“What am I doing here?” I repeated, broken, tears pouring down my cheeks as I continued staring at them. “How could you?! How could you both do this to me?!” I screamed, my heart clenching repeatedly as my wolf howled in pain.

“Would you quit yelling?” Kate snapped, a glint in her eyes. “We didn't do anything wrong, but if you want the whole pack to know, then be our guest.”

“How dare you?!” I fumed, hurt and pained my once best friend could talk like this. “You slept with my mate, and you tell me you didn't do anything wrong?”

“Yes, we didn't! Instead, it was you in the wrong!” Kate fired back, her eyes flashing with deep resentment in them.

What was she talking about?

“Babe, that's enough.” Roland cut in, his cold gaze resting on me. “Let me explain to you Aurora. Kate is my mate.”

“What?” I muttered in disbelief, my eyes darting between both of them, the smile on Kate's lips, knowing.

I took a step back, my wolf howling restlessly in my head as the realization dawned on me.

Fool, I had been a fool all this while.

They had been playing me for so long.

“Why?” I choked, looking at them both. “Why would you do this to me? Why would you decieve me? I loved you Roland, and I was willing to do anything for you, but why would you do this?”

I cried, the stabbing feeling in my heart leaving a hole.

One was my best friend, the other was the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with, but yet…

Yet, they had played me this way.

Why was this happening?

Today was supposed to be a memorable day for me, the happiest, but now?

Now I was going to become this year's alaughing stock.

“Would you stop bitching already?” Roland snarled, and my eyes widened in shock.

There was absolutely no way he was referring to me as a b*tch.

Out of all the times in the world, it had to be at this moment that my brain would refuse to function. Perhaps, it was a prank. Yes… all this had to be.

"This must be a joke right?" I asked shakily.

Maybe I was reading too much into it.

I needed to hear him say yes. But no response came. His eyes had a glare that I could not understand.

I turned to Kate, wiping the tears on my face. "Kate, are you in on this as well?.”

A taunting chuckle left her mouth. She scoffed at me and said to Roland, "This fool is really clueless."

Fool. She called me a fool. My world was beginning to spin. What was I hearing?

"Guards!” Roland suddenly growled, three hefty looking men bursting into the room. “Get this piece of sh*t out of here now!!" Roland thundered again. "Lock her up in the dungeon!"

What?

While I was still watching with eyes that were watering from every spot, some of the guards rushed to me. Without a warning, they started to drag me like I was never worth anything.

"Roland!!" I called out his name. "You can't do this to me! Roland, please."

Chapter 2

Aurora ‘s POV

I spent the next five days in the dungeon my father built in his reign. I sat on the muddy floor with frustration bloody written in italics on my forehead. My hair was already a mess. Dirt from the dungeon had gotten entangled with it. Patches of mud decorated every part of my body. Without a doubt, I stank terribly. Roland was cruel beyond my imagination. He had me locked up without any food or water. But in all of it, I could not just stop asking myself why.

What did I do wrong? All I did was show love to him. At what point did everything change? It was worse to think of the fact that my wolf had shut me out. She refused to speak to me or show her presence. Just before she shut me out, she reminded me of the fact she had warned me. But how was I to know Roland was this way?

The metal lock of the place rattled and some guards walked in. They hoisted me from the ground and carried me all the way till
