Annotation

We shouldn't be doing this." I murmured quietly against Blake's lips, my body betraying me as I melted into his warm embrace. “You want this as much as I do, princess. Who cares what anyone will say?" “But-" I started, but his lips came crashing on mine, putting an end to whatever excuse I was trying to come up with. “He is going to be the death of me." Aurora’s plan to remain invisible all through highschool failed the moment her brother's best friend, Blake who was also the co-captain of the basketball team, became interested in her. And would do whatever it takes to convince her that he was serious about her. Now, Aurora who had also developed a crush on him, has to decide if being with him was worth fighting with her best friend and everyone else who was also in love with him.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“Look, I'm too tired to deal with you right now." My mom started.

“You can just talk to him and tell him I don't need a tutor. You won't have to come in.”

I knew I was pushing her and it was only a matter before she snapped. But it was something I needed to get down before the next day if not, I wouldn't like the outcome.

“Aurora, this is the second time this week and I'm sure it's not going to be the last. If only you were half as good as your brother, we wouldn't be doing this every time.” She said. She knew that was one way to get to me.

My twin brother, Ryder, is who you would describe as a golden child. He is among the top five students in school and was also the co-captain of the basketball team and have led them to countless victories. Everyone in school loved him and he was well known among the girls while I on the other hand struggled to keep my grades above average.

Without another word, I left her presence before she has the chance to express how much of a disappointment I was.

“Aurora hurry up, we're going to be late." Ryder called, the next morning.

“You can go without me, Becky is picking me up." I lied.

“She's not here yet, you can just tell her not to worry. Besides, we're going to the same place."

I didn't hate my brother, I just find it hard to get along with him when all I do whenever we were in the same space was compared how he was better than me in everything.

“She'll be here soon." I insisted. He paused like he wanted to say something but changed his mind and nodded.

“I'll see you at school then."

Once he was gone, I picked up my bag and left the house. I didn't bother saying goodbye to mom before leaving.

I got to the bus in time and made myself comfortable and with my headset on, I brought out my sketchbook. Drawing helps me focus on something other than what was going on in my house.

“You took the bus again." My best friend, Becky accused, immediately I entered the class.

“Only because I woke up late."

“Yet you look like you didn't get a wink of sleep."

“You can't blame me, I started this new novel and the male lead is too hot for me to not finish it."

“Rory!" She whined, “you can't read books about hot guys and not recommend them to me."

“I'll send them to you." I told her.

She didn't know what was going on with me and I preferred to keep it that way. Not because I didn't trust her, but it felt easier.

“I heard Blake and Lori broke up again.” She said, and I rolled my eyes.

"They've broken up more times than anyone can count, so it's not a new thing. Besides they'll be back together before you know it.”

"Blake can do so much better than her.”

"And by ‘much better’ you're not talking about yourself, are you?”

A wide grin appeared on her face, "he's your brother's best friend, I'm sure if you mention my name once or twice and say amazing things about me, he'll come around.”

"Becky…" I started.

I thought about the best way to break it to her for the umpteenth time that although Blake was my brother's best friend, it doesn't automatically make us friends. And I would very much like to keep it that way.

There was no denying that Blake was good looking, with his strong jawline and a straight nose. His messy brown hair that falls across his forehead. His athletic build, broad shoulders, and a relaxed posture makes him look effortlessly confident, a look that had almost all the girls drooling.

“Let's get back to class." I told her instead.

“Come on Rory, I promise to name our first child after you." She begged.

“Why don't we leave it to fate?"

The entrance of the class teacher put an end to whatever she was going to say. But I knew the conversation was far from being over.

Even though it was still early in the day, I dozed off midway through the class. I struggled with maths and Mr Robert didn't make it any better. His voice could make anyone fall asleep…maybe just me and a few others but who's counting.

“Mr Robert has given up hope of ever seeing you conscious in his class." Becky told me after managing to wake me up when the class was over.

“He's my personal brand of caffeine and…”

"You don't even take coffee."

“That just makes the whole time a lot worse." I smiled when I saw the confused look that appeared on her face.

“I give up trying to understand the words that come out of your mouth sometimes."

“Me too." I wanted to say but shot her another large smile.

Lunch was my favorite period and I couldn't be more relieved when I heard the bell go off, announcing it was time for lunch.

Becky and I took a table away from everyone much to her dislike because she wouldn't be able to see the man of her dreams. But for some unknown reason, many people just pretended we don't exist which I didn't have a problem with.

“What if they actually breaks up for real?" Becky started again.

“Let's talk about something or anyone else. I really don't care about their relationship."

Do I find Blake good looking? Yes, but I doubt he even knows people like us existed. Most of the times when he comes over, he stays in my brother's room and since I tend to avoid everyone at home, he wasn't any different.

"Uhmm…okay. Tell me about that new boy band you listen to."

“Okay. So the leader is Namjoon but…” I started talking about the one group I could never get tired of listening to. For me, BTS was a breath of fresh air and it's safe to say I was obsessed with them.

Becky doesn't understand what I like about them when I don't even speak their language. But she doesn't mind me talking about them…it was only a matter of time before she starts listening to them.

My mom was home by the time Becky dropped me off and so was Ryder and Blake. Their head whips to look at me when I opened the door.

“Good afternoon, mom." I greeted and she let out a hum in response.

“I saved you your favorite pizza, Rory." Ryder called.

“I'm not hungry." I Iied, and started going to my room until I head my mom's voice.

"She needs to slow down on eating all of those, she doesn't need the extra fat.” She said. "You should order some salad for her next time.” She added.

Fighting back tears, I hurried up the stairs to my room, gently locking the door and resting against it. For me, this was an everyday occurrence but it doesn't make easier listening to my own mom talk about my body, knowing how insecure I was.

A gentle knock on my door snaps me back to the present.

“I want to be alone, Ryder." But the knocking continued.

Nobody was in front of my door when I finally decided to open it…except a plate containing a few slices of pizza and a cup of my favorite juice. Just the sight of it made my stomach growl. Deciding that it would be a waste to not eat it, I took them in.

I fell asleep after doing justice to the pizza, and putting it at the back of my mind to thank Ryder for it later.

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

I took my time getting ready the next morning, only coming out when I heard my brother's car leave. A part of me knew he didn't deserve it, but I felt it was better than ending up in situations where we wouldn't like the outcome.

But what I didn't expect to see when I got outside was Blake leaning against his motorcycle.

“That wasn't here yesterday, and why is he here?" I asked myself.

“Hey." He called and I stopped, looked around to confirm he was actually talking to me.

“Ryder isn't here."

“I'm not here for him, now get on and let's go."

I didn't bother hiding the confusion on my face, “did he hit his head or does he have amnesia?" I thought.

First of all, we've never really spoken to each other and he's suddenly acting like we were best friends. Concluding that I must've heard wrong, I continued walking.

“Princess." He called, sounding hoarse. I ignored the smil
