Freya Moonstone was born to fulfill a prophecy… one that required her blood, her life and all she had ever worked for. Framed by her best friend, rejected by her mate and abandoned by her only brother, Freya is sent out to die a rogue but destiny has its way of blessing in unexpected ways. Freya returns but this time not as the naive teen who was burnished five years ago but as a powerful Luna to a pack she built with her sweat, tears and blood… A Luna who has swore vengeance on those who hurt her. With destiny pushing her to places she doesn’t want to be, Freya has to decide whether to save the Alpha and the pack that betrayed her or watch them perish.

Prologue

THE PROPHECY IS ALIVE

The storm rumbled, sky as cloudy as never before and the moon shone brighter than any other day. The earth laid still, silent and ready to hear the cry of the prophecy.

The woman laid in bed, her hand clutching her husband’s tightly that one would think the man’s hand was going to be broken but he endured the pain because he knew the pain his wife was going through was nothing compared to what he was feeling.

“You have to try Sofia.” The midwife, who was also a demon like Sofia, urged her on. The Luna, Sofia, gave out a sign, beads of new sweat forming on her forehead and her eyes wide open in pain.

“Arrrrghhh!” A mighty scream tore the room and shook through the entire pack. The whole pack was engulfed with fear as the pack shook. The sky darkened, the moon dimmed and distant wolves began howling.

The child slipped into the midwife’s hand but refused to cry. Her eyes were tightly shut, hand clamped together and legs hanging in the air. The midwife scrunched her face in confusion, waiting for the child to let out a cry like every other normal child but it never came.

“Wh…what’s wrong?” A weak voice whispered, looking at the confusion in the old midwife’s face. “She is not letting out a cry like she is supposed to.” Sofia let out a weak gasp, struggling to get on her feet but was halted by the big hand that held hers.

“Relax my queen,” The packs Alpha, Alexander, moved towards her and bent enough for her to stare right into his face. “She will be fine.” He reassured, rubbing her hand soothingly. The Luna lay back with hope, waiting for a miracle to happen and secretly praying to the Moon Goddess to protect her child. Then it happened — a cool eerie breeze entered the room, trees began dancing violently and a distant unknown hum started.. Calmly at first but began rising slowly into a higher pitch.

Her eyes were the first to open, then her hand and a thunder like wail came out of her. The midwife stepped back in shock, almost losing her balance but was secured by the Alpha. Her gaze moved to the Alpha then the Luna and finally, the child in her arms.

“No.. No ..” She kept uttering in disbelief, blinking at regular intervals as if she had seen something wrong and wanted to undo it.  The pup’s eyes shone brightly in gold and her skin glowed like the soft light from the moon.

“She..She..” The midwife trembled, shifting uneasily. “She is the prophecy!” Her declaration as if heard by the wolves, trees, moon and sky began to acknowledge her presence. The Alpha tensed in fear, vision blurry and teeth clinched. He was well aware of the prophecy, the one every one secretly whispered of and the hunters seek for.

“There has to be some sort of mistake. It can’t be my child.” He cried in distress but the prophecy was carved in stones and nothing was going to change it. The Luna stirred weakly on the bed with visible terror dawning in her eyes. “Let me see my child.”

Hesitant, the midwife handed the child who was now calm to her mother. The child shifted her gaze meeting her mother’s and a small smile tugging her lips. This action cooled the tensed air, making it a lot easier to breathe. Then a silent sob came out, followed by loud tears.

Sofia clutched the child to her chest, staring deep into her innocent golden eyes.

“She is beautiful.” She wiped away her tears and as though filled with a different kind of energy spoke with a fierce voice. “What does the prophecy demand?”

The midwife sighed, hands tightly clutched together and eyes deeply shut.

The night the moon shines brighter than any other day,

She will be born… The very one the prophecy demands,

Her blood is life, her blood is destruction,

The earth shall bow and the people shall heed her command,

Death she can be and life she can give.

Then, just like that, the heavy breeze seized, the moon shone brighter once again and the wolves went silent. The midwife, as though possessed, went on to speak.

Her blood is the requirement ; to save and to kill,

To make the sterile fertile and to make rain fall after a heavy drought,

She is born for death and death alone shall be her fate.

No!!!” The Luna’s scream moved the pack again but this time, it carried anger, anguish and regret. “My daughter will not be the saviour to people I know nothing of.”

Then hide her, away from the eyes of the people, from the elders and the hunters but remember, fate cannot be hidden but can only be delayed.

“Her name is Freya… Freya moonstone.”

And with that declaration, the Luna fell into deep slumber, the midwife collapsed from exhaustion, darkness covered the earth and destiny smiled from afar.

Chapter 1 A  MURDEROUS BIRTHDAY

FREYA

The stench of fresh blood filled the hallway. I stumbled back, my hand cold from terror and my gaze fixed on one thing.. Zara.

“Oh my God,” I whispered, taking in the scene in front of me. Zara, the chief maid's daughter, lay at my feet with her mouth slightly parted and her pupils dilated. She looked like she was peacefully asleep but that wasn’t the case. Zara was dead and I know I just put myself in a difficult situation when I touched her in an attempt to help.

Now my hand was soaked with blood, sweat drenched my skin and my heart kept skipping a beat.

“What do I do? What should I do?” I bit my nails nervously, thinking about what to do but that was the beginning of my terror.

“Goodness Freya!” Willow screamed, drawing the attention of passerbys. Today was the moonbinding ceremony and everybody was to bring their daughters who were turning eighteen to the palace. I was one of them,
