Chapter 1

Nolan P.O.V

Tap, tap.

My fingers drumming impatiently on the wooden armrest of my chair was the only sound that could be heard in this intense moment of silence.

Everyone felt it, not a single soul exempted, that in a moment from now, it’s either we are breaking heads or shaking hands sealing the deal with a fake smile on our faces.

I adjusted properly on my seat, and slowly lifted my eyes to look at the b*st*rd seating in front of me.

“Mr Antonio, can you repeat what you just said?”

Sitting across from me in the room was known other than the infamous Antonio Federico.

He wasn’t famous for being ruthless as I was, neither was he famous for being successful—it was quite the opposite. He was famous for being a disappointment, and a total garbage. Having two solid businesses and a generational wealth passed down to him not only from his dad, but also from his grandfather, not a day has he failed to disappoint them all for his obsession in drugs and betting.

And of course, after being a total disappointment to his parents, and having brought down the net worth of his parents lifelong business, just when it’s at the brink of collapsing, he’s here to discuss a deal with me. Interesting.

“I was thinking you make me the head of your cassino, and in return—” He paused and swallowed, stared around nervously before continuing to say, “you marry my daughter.”

Such a stupid deal!

And besides, I never thought he’d get to a point where he’d be willing to trade off his family for money.

I smirked in amusement, “And how old is she?”

“In a month or two, I think she’ll be turning eighteen. But that’s nothing to worry about,” He stopped talking and gave out an abrupt laugh, trying to lighten up the mood, to hide his nervousness, I guess

That’s it!

No matter how dumb he was, he knew who he was dealing with. He understood the ruthlessness of the man he’d come to discuss a deal with. I, Lycan King, Nolan—Don of the darkblood Mafia, wasn’t a man to be messed with!

Guess what my reputation says—there’s not a line of good words found in it about me.

Hardly has a man like him come to my sight and gone back alive.

“Cause she’s fully developed,” and then he leaned forward in his seat, “besides, aren’t you famous for exploiting young girls?”

That shred unto the last bead of self control I had. My finger stops drumming on the armrest, it was the slightest of all movements, but he was quick to grasp onto it.

His eyes swiftly darted to it, noticing the shift in the air.

I raised a brow, “I am famous for what?”

He pulled down his tie, and I caught his hand shivering a bit, but then he tried to shrug it off with a quirky laugh, again, “of course, that’s another baseless rumor. I mean, who would believe that?”

Internally, I rolled my eyes. He must be missing a few brain cells.

“Don,” my consigliere stepped forward and whispered into my ears, “In two years. Not two months.”

That means his daughter was—Sixteen? This son of a gun!

In one swift motion, I grabbed a handful of his hair, tight and brutal, I could nearly see his scalp pull off,  “Mr Antonio,” I spoke slowly and steady, “you stole from me some years back, remember? I still haven’t settled that score with you yet. I was wondering—how could the devil control you so much that you ended up in front of me?”

I gave him a quick smile, “You know, I have been searching for you.”

He cried out in pain, trying to pull out of my grip, his face turning red in terror, “I would never in my life steal from you. I mean, it would be so stupid of me to do so…”

I cut him off, “See? You’re stupid.”

“Didn’t you steal from Gajo’s shipment?”

He batted his lashes in astonishment, stuttering, “But… that wasn’t yours, I thought… I mean, it was Gajo’s shipment, not yours…”

“But it was supposed to be delivered to me. I guess your stupid *ss stole it thinking it belonged to Gajo, right?”

And at that moment, his eyes widened as reality hit him. His lips shivered as he pleaded.

“I didn’t know it was yours, If I had known, I wouldn’t dare—”

“First,” I gave orders to my men in the room. “Make sure you cut off his right hand so next time, he remembers not to take what does not belong to him. And you can do whatever you want with after.”

And with that, I pushed into the hands of my men. As they dragged him into the corner, he cried out.

“King please, I have a family to feed, my daughter, my daughter, she needs me!”

Daughter? The one he was willing to sell off a couple of minutes ago? I scoffed while brushing off my hand. Useless.

They all end up the same way, pleading, praying or even repenting in front of me before they die, yet, they still come to me. I was the one with the most power and control here, and for them to stand firm on their ground, they needed a collaboration from me. I let them, all of them come to me—I take the best of the offers and kill those who spew nonsense in front of me.

Most of them were foolish anyway.

“Don, it’s about time. Two hours from now will be the full moon, and you know—it is quite dangerous for you to be out here.”

I breathed in and out, remembering how miserable I was too. And then he added, “I’ll leave to go have the moonbound chamber prepared.”

I nodded and then watched as his restricting figure walked out of the room as a sigh escaped my lips.

Cursed,

mated five times—five of them buried in front of me, because somehow I was punished with a beast living inside of me. I killed them, each and everyone of my mates, from the beginning to the very last, and each time I killed my mate, the moon goddess did the unthinkable by giving me another mate!

Five times, five bloody times, and I killed all! Not even one had escaped.

I was the King with every unthinkable rumor laced to my name.

“He eats his mate!”

“It’s a curse to be mated to him”

“Trust me, he kills them to get more power and money. Can’t you see, the more kills them, the more power he gets.”

“If my daughter gets mated to him, I’d rather end my life than watch it happen.”

The rumors were so loud, that even as a man they trembled at his presence, somehow, words had even gotten to my ears. It’s funny how they tremble at my presence but never stop talking.

And as I stood to my feet, making my way out of the VIP section of the club, I recalled about how many times I’d been bound in chains—screaming, howling, turning into something unrecognizable in the Bloodhound Chambers. Every month, right from the very moment I clocked 5.

And today—specifically, two hours from now—is one of those times. I’ll be bound in chains for three days, enduring unbearable pain.

Funny!

Every medicine taken, every spell casted, every possible thing done within my ability, yet, no one understood the root of such a powerful curse, and since they didn’t understand—no remedy was figured out.

The ones I figured out were useless.

I have learnt to accept my fate and lived this way by pouring every of my frustration and anger on useless men like Mr Antonio. I was suffering so everyone has to suffer too!

“Don, watch out—”

One of my men yelled as I took my first step out of the VIP section, but before I could dodge, a bullet flew right into my stomach, and then—chaos.

“Sh*t!”

The sound of sudden gunfire. The sudden halt of music. Footsteps pounding, scream, Dead bodies, bleeding from arms, legs, or hands. My men surrounding me, trying to protect me, but constantly distracted by the rapid bursts of gunshots. Everything, total chaos, was all that filled my sight.

I held onto my bleeding stomach, pulling out a gun from my back pocket. I gave orders, “Protect the people in the club, I’ll handle the rest.”

“But Don, you’re injured—” One of my men was saying when a bullet flew in and penetrated right in his head. He fell down dead in front of me.

F*ck!

My eyes widened in astonishment. What the hell just happened?

I sprang into action, eyes scanning the club for the source of the chaos. Then I saw them—assassins, firing from the building next door.

I made a run to the secret exit, ducking as bullets flew through the air. Outside, I spun and fired a shot—not to hit, just to confuse. It worked. The gunfire paused, just long enough to get the others out.

Then they figured it out and opened fire again. On me.

I was the target all along. Alone, bleeding, and armed with nothing but a pistol. A f*ck*ng pistol at this time?

So I made a run for the nearest bush, still clutching onto my stomach.

Pain was nothing new, but it wasn’t just that, I was hit again, in the arm this time. The pistol slipped from my grip.

“Bastards,” I muttered, squatting to grab it because as useless as it might seem, it was all I had.

But a sudden jolt of pain ran through me. I stopped, right there on my track.

Cause I knew every pain I felt at that moment wasn’t just from the wound. It was something familiar, spreading fast over my entire muscle, restraining and weakening it.

My chest tightened. My breath caught in my throat.

And I already knew what this meant, because I have felt it over and over again.

It was—the full moon.

My head genuinely wandered into an instant train of thoughts.

Why was it happening now? Wasn't it supposed to be in an hour or two? What the actual f*ck was going on today?

I clutched to my chest as I made for a run, but each step was a near fall.

I staggered, fell, rose back up, until I was at a spot where I could no longer hear the gunshots, probably my men had taken over.

I was the most vulnerable on the first day. I was the weakest—absolutely the worst. I couldn’t heal from the wound I carried in this condition.

I staggered toward the hut I saw, fingertips pressed against the rough wall for support. Pain ran through my whole body, my vision totally blurry. It was as if every vessel in my body surrendered at once, and I slid down, collapsing against the wooden planks.

A minute passed, and another, and I was all alone, battling with the beast living inside of me.

And just when I was at the brink of unconsciousness, I heard some rustling in the bush, a pause and then a soothing voice followed. “Are you okay?”

That voice, for some reason, sounded like it’d brought light to the darkness I was hovered with, but I was too weak to even lift my head to see who owned it.

I could hear her footsteps pounding as if hurrying to my side, and then she squatted next to me.

“Blood? What happened to you?”

But she didn't get any response from me so she lifted my head with a finger beneath my chin to force me to look at her. My head sagged unsteadily—I was too weak to hold it steady. Yet even in my state, through my blurry gaze…

“D*mn, she’s beautiful.”

The words rang in my head—subconciously.

I was seated under the shadows of the hut, while the moon shone slightly on her face. I doubt if she could see me properly.

But I could see her—beautiful, gorgeous, petite and timid. How can I describe her? She was everything perfect.

Her eyes held worry as they stared into mine. She didn’t even know who I was yet, she was helping?

She was the innocent kind?

F*ck*ng hell!

There was something about her—something magically calming about her presence.

I could see her eyes growing wide—as if she recognized me, but wasn’t sure if she was seeing the right one or not. Regardless, she shrugged it off, pulled out a bottle from her weird looking bag, opened it, and then, she pulled the bottle close to my lips, with a nod urging me to drink.

But I hesitated, because no matter how beautiful she was, she was still a stranger I had only met for a couple of minutes. What if she was sent to kill me—?

My thoughts were cut short when she cupped my face, forcing my mouth open, and tilted the bottle. Liquid poured in, steady and swift. I swallowed, somehow, without thinking.

What the…

She looks way too timid for that fierce attitude she just displayed. I have never been forced into an action in my entire life, not until now.

Then there was a silence that followed, her head tilted to the side as she studied me with furrowed brows.

What—what was she staring at?

And then she smiled, a cute one with dimples, and immediately, I felt it, the chills running through my body, and the calmness that followed, everything, like in a swift motion disappeared.

“See?” her smile widened, “you can trust me.”

I had questions to ask, who was she? How did she – I have been searching for a cure for years, what did she give to me? Was this the cure? Where can I buy it? Who made it?

But for some reason, my lips were unable to move, as if I could only form the words in my head but didn’t have the ability to voice them out.

She whispered, “Now sleep.”

Slowly, my eyes closed on their own accord and everything went blank.

But I will find her!

The hell,

I will have her, even if it means shaking the earth.

Chapter 2

My eyes snapped open, as though I was jerked back to life by a memory pull. Instantly, a voice burst out,

“The King is awake!”

What the…

That was loud!

Instantly, everyone ran in, my mom, my dad, my consigliere, Aberto, and some random people I haven’t seen before, probably, the maids?

My mom sat right beside me at the bed, tears streaming down her cheeks, “it’s been three days, and finally, you are awake! Finally! Thanks be to the moon goddess.”

Three days—that meant, it was after the full moon?

My eyes roamed the room, taking in every detail and—it was my room! Wasn’t I supposed to be in the bloodhound chamber bound with chains?

And—

My heart hammered in my chest when I remembered her, the delicate look in her eyes, her innocence and calming presence.

“Where’s she?”

It was the first word I uttered. Bloody hell, my throat was sour but I couldn’t care less.

Everyone looked confused for a moment but my consigli
