‘’Alicia dear hurry, else we will miss our flight’’. My mom hollered at me.  

“Yes mom, I will be down in a bit” I spun round my bedroom for the one hundredth time and blew kisses to the room before shutting the door with a deep sigh.

    “Alicia it looks like you were saying goodbye to your room because you dressed up long ago”. My mom gave me a long stare from the living room.

“Mom I will definitely miss my girly room and teddy bears.” I pouted and joined her downstairs.

“Baby you are free to take any of your teddy bears”. My mom suggested lightly.

“Mom my roommates will make fun of me." I frowned.

“Dear, that won’t be possible because you have your personal apartment, besides my princess is entitled to her privacy. Isn’t that right dear?” She pulled me closer to her side stroking my hair gently.

“Oh thanks mom." I giggled in happiness and planted a big kiss on her cheeks making her to smile softly.

“Dear let’s get moving else we will miss our flight.” She signaled the domestic help standing by to carry our luggage.

“Yes Mom”. I quickly picked up my cell phone and clutch bag, while my personal maid helped me with my luggage. Then i turned to see my nanny wiping her face endlessly. Immediately, I placed her palms in mine,

 “O dear Nanny Sonita, I will miss you dearly.” I embraced her tightly and sobbed. My nanny has always been my second mother, guiding angel, support system and gist partner. The way she loves and listens to me makes me wonder why she didn't get married and have children, she would surely have been a great mother.

“I will miss you too my child.” She did the sign of the cross on my forehead and pecked my knuckles.  

“Enough of this emotional farewell you two.” My mom snapped. My mom has a quick temper and can easily contact an emotional feeling in any environment. She interrupted the farewell I was having with my Nanny because she didn't want to bust into tears as well, my mom strongly believes emotions are contagious.

 “Sonita stop crying and behaving like my daughter is dying or something”. Mom gently pushed me into the waiting car and we waved Sonita and the domestic helps goodbye. 

  We arrived at the university and indeed it is so beautiful and also magnificent with tall buildings and tall trees around. We entered my medium sized Apartment. It is well decorated with my favorite colors white and pink. 

“Mom thanks for telling the interior decorator to do this, I love it” I blew her a kiss and slumped on the large white couch in excitement.

“Alicia I’m so exhausted from the trip.” She complained with a frown on her face.

“Same here mom. First, let me order pizza, while you freshen up.”  I took out my phone to place the order.

“OK dear.” She picked up her bag and went into my bedroom. While I unzipped my bag and poured out all my clothes on the couch. 

      My mom came back into the living room wearing her nightie.  “Baby why are emptying your clothes on the couch” 

“Mom I think I left my diary back home.” I heaved a sigh and fell back on the couch. 

“Alicia I saw it on your bed after you finished packing, so I thought it wise to take it along”. She gave me a heart warming smile. My mom’s smile is so charming with her oval shaped pretty face, emerald eyes and dimples. “Here you go.” she placed the diary in my palms. 

“Thank you mom, what a sweet relieve.” I inhaled deeply with my eyes shut and held the diary close to my chest.  

She looked at me with a cute smile and replied, “You are most welcome my love. By the way, have you ordered pizza?”  

“Yes I just did before you walked in from the bedroom”  I replied and took a seat on the couch opposite her.

“Alright dear, please turn on the TV let’s see what’s happening”. 

“Help yourself” I winked at her and gave her the Tv remote.  

“Alicia dear, I think you would need a domestic staff to help you with chores around the house.”  My mom said softly

I replied with a WHAT FOR stare

“Dear please don’t give me that look, remember you have to focus on your studies to graduate with good grades. Alicia don’t forget that you are the heiress to your father’s chain of businesses.” She returned her attention to the news she was listening to.  

“Mom you always seize the opportunity to remind me of that, always!” I exclaimed and shook my head in disbelief. 

“Dear, it’s for your own good” She gave me a warm smile 

“Yes mom, after pizza I’m going to bed, I have a long day tomorrow” 

“I forgot my dear, go take your bath, let’s get your things settled in” 

“Alright mom, I will bath quickly and join you later.” I wore my flipflops and dashed into my bedroom.

The following day, I woke up feeling so exhausted but at the same time happy to be in school finally. I quickly took my bath and fixed a simple breakfast for me and my mom. After breakfast, we booked a taxi. 

“Mom thanks for spending the night with me and arranging my room.” I hugged my mom tightly. “Mom, I will miss you” 

“Oh my dear, same here.” My mom sniffed a little and dabbed her eyes. “I will miss you my baby. Take good care of yourself, make sure you eat healthy and don't forget how much I love you.” She said caressing my left cheek with her soft palm.

“I love you too mummy, Bye.” I embraced her again with a deep sigh.

“Bye dear”.  She cleared her throat and gave me a quick smile.

I bade my mom Goodbye again, as the chauffeur drove off and I went into my school proceeding straight to my department.  

My name is Alicia, an excited 19year old, who just got admission into College to study the course of my dream. I’ve always wanted to be a psychologist. I have never been away from home before. Yes, I was home-schooled because i had problems seeing and talking from infancy. I started to talk at the age of 5, my speech greatly improved when I was 8. I had no choice but to leave my parents and school abroad due to my father's wishes. My Dad actually thinks it’s best, on the other hand my Mom seemed to be uncomfortable with the idea at first, but my dad succeeded in convincing her, and as an obedient daughter, I obliged because that’s what daddy wants.  

      I read through the timetable on my tablet and hurriedly entered the elevator. “Oh no, I’m late for class!” I exclaimed and ran my hands through my hair. “I can't believe that I'm late for my first lecture, d*mn it.” I lamented bitterly. 

The moment I opened the door, I was obviously looking nervous and the female lecturer eyed me from top to bottom, then told me to come in.  

“Thank you so much ma’am” I said in relief.

“Please introduce yourself to the class” She said mildly.

I adjusted my glasses and shot a glance at the other students. 

“My name is Alicia Verde, I’m a psychology student.”

“Alicia, why are you late?” The lecturer asked. 

“Ma’am, I woke up late due to the long trip I had yesterday, I apologize.” I took a deep breathe. 

“Nice to meet you Alicia, welcome to College.” The lecturer and a few students remarked while some behaved like they didn’t see or hear me at all.  

I immediately moved to sit on an empty chair. The student beside me had an headphone plugged in, and was busy listening to music.  

Seems the lecturer isn’t harsh, I brought out my jotter and tried my possible best to flow with the class. At the end of class, I sat back to glance through my note. 

“Hey there,” A tall lady with long black hair approached me. 

“Hi” I replied. 

 ” Hello Alicia, my name is Clara.” She offered me a handshake which I accepted with a smile. 

“Nice to meet you Clara” I responded taking a brief glance at her.

"The pleasure is mine Alicia. By the way, I love your glasses.” 

“Thanks Clara, they are actually medicated” I said with a smile admiring her friendly attitude and free spirit.

"Alright. Aren’t you going to grab lunch?” Clara asked. 

“No thanks, I’m not hungry”  I quickly turned down her offer. Besides, it's too early to start making friends. I reminded myself in my thoughts.

“Alright see you later Alicia”.  She waved and dashed out.

“Bye Clara.” I said almost in a whisper

"Orlando, I want you to put aside your selfish desires and childishness; Act like a true leader." My dad hollered at me with furrowed brows.  Ever since I became a teenager, my dad's attention on me increased. He would ensure I never missed training, I speak like a prince, walk like a prince, eat like a prince and do everything princely. Growing into youth age, I started to disagree with most instructions he gave me and flaunted his orders often, which is always a major cause of our misunderstandings.  "Dad with all due respect all I have ever done is be an obedient son to you and mom.
