Mabel Jordan, a bartender scarred by a past betrayal, crosses paths with Steve Harrison, the ruthless billionaire CEO of Ryder Enterprises. Their connection is an immediate, intoxicating fire, a dangerous spark that threatens to burn them both. Steve is a man who never loses control, but Mabel is the wildness he can't tame. Unwilling to let go, yet terrified of the vulnerability she represents, he offers a single, brutal rule to protect himself from the very thing he desires most. "I can't give you the perfect relationship, Mabel. But I can't let you go either." He proposes a selfish and exclusive arrangement: a no-strings-attached affair with one devastating, unspoken truth they both desperately want to believe they can play with fire without getting burned. "You can’t fall in love with me, Mabel. If you do, it will be over.” What begins as a reckless game becomes a battle of wills and raw desire. Mabel fights to guard her heart, while Steve struggles to keep a soul he swore was dead. Can they survive a game with only one rule, or will they be destroyed by the very feelings they swore to avoid?

Chapter 1: What did he want now?

I cursed myself for forgetting the key to my locker in the staff room as I drove. I begged Felix, my co-worker at the bar, to cover for me while I rushed back home to retrieve it.

As I fumbled for the keys to the apartment I shared with my fiancé, Michael, I noticed that the door was already unlocked. He should be at work, and the apartment should be locked, so why was it open? Had he come back to grab something too? I felt a shiver run down my spine as I clutched the door handle, pushed the door, opening it slowly. I could hear voices.

I stood frozen in the living room, my ears straining to pinpoint the source of the moans. "Mmmm...ahhhh... it feels so good." The voice was husky and familiar, sending a wave of unease through me.

My heart racing, I crept towards the bedroom door, trying not to make a sound as I pressed my ear against it to eavesdrop, my hand on the doorknob as I listened. I heard the sounds, the moans, the gasps, the unmistakable sounds of people making out.

"Ah, Michael...oh my god...I want to s*ck you again before you make me come undone." A voice purred from the other side of the door. My eyes widened as the voice sounded familiar, like my best friend Laura's voice.

I gasped, my hand flying to my mouth to stifle the sound. “What the hell?” I muttered quietly, my mind reeling. It couldn't be her, I must be hallucinating. And why was Michael in bed with another woman? He was supposed to be at work. A wave of anger and hurt washed over me, making my vision blur.

"You dirty little sl*t, you want to take me in your mouth, huh?" Michael growled, his voice low and husky. I heard a slurping sound, followed by a moan. "You like this so much, don't you?" Another slurping sound, and she moaned again. "Yes, yes...I love it…”

She was slurping and talking in between. “Does Mabel give it to you like this? Does she make you feel this good like I do?”

He groaned, “if you continue like this, I'm gonna finish in your mouth, I wanna come in you, Laura.”

I gasped again as I heard her name, it really was Laura, she was sleeping with Michael. I could feel the tears threatening to drop as I realized what was happening. Michael, my fiance, was cheating on me with my best friend. I clutched the doorknob, my knuckles white with rage, as I listened to the sounds of their lovemaking. I had heard enough. With a surge of adrenaline, I turned the handle of the room door and pushed it open.

As I opened the door, I was met with a sight that made my blood boil. I saw Michael's naked body, Laura's head bobbing up and down as she s*ck*d him on the bed. I stood there, frozen in shock, as they continued, so lost in the act that they didn't even hear me walk in or open the bedroom door.

“Yeah, I'm pretty sure I s*ck better than you, Laura!” I announced, throwing the ring on my finger Michael.

Michael's eyes met mine, and they widened in surprise. He jerked back from Laura, his face pale. She turned and shrieked in surprise, and I saw Michael's face fall, his expression full of shock.

I scoffed, "Disgusting! The both of you!" I headed towards my drawer to grab my key. They both scrambled on the bed to put on their clothes, their movements frantic and awkward.

Laura tried to talk to me, to explain and apologize, and she started begging. "Mabel, please listen to me...I can explain..." But I wasn't having it. Michael, on the other hand, was speechless, unable to utter a word. He just sat there, his eyes fixed on me, his face filled with guilt and shame.

I was about to walk out the bedroom door when I changed my mind and decided to pack my belongings from the apartment. I couldn't bear the thought of coming back to face him, I needed to leave. Why should I be the one to leave? The thought of living in the apartment where my best friend and my fiancé had been sleeping with each other behind my back was traumatizing. I could never sleep on the bed we shared again.

Michael finally spoke with my ring in his hand, "Mabel, wait, you can't leave like that, please, this was a mistake."

I turned to face him, my clothes still clutched in my hand as I shoved them into my suitcase. "Mistake? It sounded like you guys have been doing this for a while!" I shouted.

I packed my belongings while Laura and Michael continued to utter nonsense, their words barely registering in my mind. I just needed to get out of there. As I began to walk away with my suitcase, Michael followed me and grabbed my wrist, holding me back.

"Mabel, I'm sorry, don't leave, please," he pleaded.

I looked at him with anger and disgust. "Let go of me! You weren't sorry a few minutes ago when you were in her mouth!" I spat out angrily, removing his hand from my wrist. "Five whole years down the drain, we were supposed to get married in a month." I said, my voice cracking with emotion. I would never cry in front of them, they didn't deserve to see my tears.

I turned to Laura, who was crying at this point. "And you," I pointed at her, my voice shaking with rage. "How could you? You're supposed to be my best friend."

I glanced at Michael and Laura one last time, my eyes filled with contempt. I gave them the middle finger, and then I dragged my suitcase out of the room, never looking back. I loaded it into my car trunk and settled into the driver's seat, the tears finally spilling out as I sobbed ugly sobs.

I still needed to get back to work, Felix was waiting for me at the bar, and I didn't have time to keep on crying. After a while, I cleaned my tears and drove back to work, my face puffy, my eyes and nose red.

When I got back to work, Felix and other coworkers asked what was wrong, but I couldn't utter a word about it. I wasn't ready to talk about it. I thanked Felix for stepping in for me while I went back home to get my key. The day went by quickly, and I took breaks frequently because I broke down in tears.

After the bar closed, I decided to tell my boss I'd be quitting after a month. I was going to move away to start afresh, I didn't have a choice but to stay in a hotel, I couldn't go back to my parents place, I disowned them a long time ago. I needed all the money I could get to rent a new apartment and get a new job. I needed to get away from all the things that reminded me of Laura and Michael.

As I walked out of the bar, I felt a sense of uncertainty wash over me. It would be so stressful to get a new apartment and a new job, I took a deep breath and started walking towards my car, the cool night air filling my lungs.

I heard a voice behind me. "Mabel, wait!" It was Michael. I spun around, my heart racing. What did he want now?

Chapter 2: The door was locked when I got here

I stood there, my heart pounding in my chest, as Michael approached me. I could see the desperation in his eyes, the pleading expression on his face. But I didn't care. I was done with him.

"What do you want, Michael?" I spat out, trying to keep my voice steady.

"I want to talk to you," he said, his voice low and urgent. "I want to explain what happened."

I laughed, a cold, hard sound. "Explain what happened? You think you can explain away what I saw? You think you can justify cheating on me with my best friend?"

Michael took a step closer to me, his eyes locked on mine. "Mabel, please listen to me. It wasn't like that. It was a mistake, a stupid mistake. I love you, not Laura."

I shook my head, feeling a wave of anger wash over me. "I'm not the one who threw away five years of our lives together and slept with my best friend."

Michael's face twisted in a mixture of guilt and desperation. "Mabel, please. Don't say that. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I'
