Chapter 1
**** MELINA P.O.V ****
I looked at the orphanage once more, knowing how much I would miss it. I can't keep staying there. I am old enough to buy my own food.
Since I was young, all of my friends have moved, and so have I. As a sad child, I didn't have any parents.
I don't know why my parents were witches. As I walked out the door, I tried not to cry. The person in charge of me begged me to stay, but I didn't want to.
I turned 21 this year. I need to stay a young woman without any ties. I need to know what the outside looks like.
My bags, which I was holding in my hands, had my clothes and other things like my cream and hair comb.
Because I didn't know where to go, I looked around the streets. Still, I didn't want to go back, so I kept walking.
Wherever the night takes me, I'll lay my head down. I had packages of food in a small bag. When I said I wanted to leave, my guardian made it happen. Everyone would have enough food for an entire day.
She said something to me that I couldn't stop thinking about. Basically, "There are bad guys out there whose only goal is to get in between your legs. " Beware." She told me, and ever since then, I've been thinking about it.
I saw that many shops were open when I got to the main road. Don't be surprised that I'm now acting where I've lived for 21 years.
They never let me leave the compound because they knew that people in town could hurt me or kill me.
Some shop owners saw me right away. They ran into their stores and locked the doors. Some ran inside and started talking to themselves.
I felt the same shame as they did. I can see why they never let me leave the compound. They knew this was going to happen.
It hurt, so I got up and ran down the road. I realised that if I wanted to start over, I had to go somewhere where no one had ever heard of my parents.
No one will ever hire me around here.
Even though I thought my heart would stop any second, I kept running. To get some fresh air, I went into two buildings.
I leaned against the wall and took a deep breath. When I looked around, I saw that I wasn't where I thought I was.
"Did I run really that far?" When I looked back, I thought I had run almost five blocks.
"Wow."
I guess I can start my life from here. People didn't look at me when I walked out of the building like I was just another person.
I was so glad no one or nothing was after me. They didn't know me. I knew that for sure.
It looked like another town. Or do I have something else to say? I was walking through the shops when I saw a store with pigeons inside.
"Wow!" I said to myself. They were nice-looking and came in a lot of bright colours.
I took some of the rice balls Ma'am Rose had made for me and put them in my hands. When I held out my hand, they saw the grains in it and ran over to eat from it.
I laughed when their beaks pricked my hand. When I looked up, I saw a woman inside the shop looking at me.
I thought, of course, that she owned the shop and the pigeons. She watched them eat the rice I was holding from inside the shop.
They flew back into the shop when they were done. When the woman spoke up, I smiled and looked at the birds one last time before turning around to leave.
"They're fond of you." When I turned around after she said something, she was smiling at me.
I said, "I like them, too," as I got closer to the shop.
"You just started, right?" When she asked, I said yes.
"Yes, it makes sense, doesn't it?" I held up one of my bags and asked. She gave a head shake.
"No, that's wrong. People in this area don't bother each other. No one else had ever fed my birds, so when you did, I knew you were new. She told me what was happening, and I agreed with her. I'm new. I told her, "I'm looking for somewhere to live and work," and she told me to come in.
I smiled and sat down when she told me to.
I told her "Thanks," and she sat down next to me.
"What's your name?" It's true.
I told her, "My name is Melina." I didn't want her to ask what my dad's name was.
"Well, I am Susan." I smiled and nodded when she told me.
"Where do you come from?" She asked, and then she thought about the answer. I can't tell her where I come from because if she finds out, she might kick me out of the shop.
My dad died before I was born, and my mum died the day before I was born. Since then, they took away everything I had, and I've been living on the streets." She looked sad when I told her what had happened.
"You're not married, are you?" I told her no when she asked.
She sighed when I told her, "No, I don't."
I can help you. I know you have a good heart. You can start working here today. But you can't stay at our house because my husband won't let a stranger stay there." I was so glad she said it.
"Thank you very much, Ma'am. I am so grateful. There won't be any trouble for me here." When I told her, she smiled.
"Good. "
Leave your bags in the shop, and I'll show you how things work here." She said it, and I stood up and nodded while holding my bags.
I could hear cars and see women of all ages peeking out of their shops with big smiles on their faces as I was leaving.
"What's going on?" I asked Mrs Susan because I could see that she, too, was looking out her shop window.
Jonathan would soon die. His men are in those three cars in front." She said this while pointing quickly moving chairs in our direction.
Why do they look like they're in such a rush? Don't they know that kids play in the street sometimes? This place has a market." I said something, and she stopped me by putting her finger to her lips.
Don't say bad things about Jason. One day, you won't make it. His mother even more so." She said that, and I looked at the line of cars going by.
"Who is this, then?" I thought that when I saw a pigeon eating rice on the road as they got closer.
"Look, a pigeon!" I yelled when I saw how close the car was and looked at it. We need to save the pigeon.
I ran out of the shop and heard the woman screaming, but I didn't answer because I didn't want that pigeon to die.
I picked up the pigeon and threw it into the shop when I got to it. I then shut my eyes and got ready for the worst.
I was surprised that I didn't feel anything, but I did hear hits. The car stopped suddenly, and I think that the cars behind it hit it from behind.

Chapter 2
**** JASON P.O.V ****
I hit my head on the seat in front of me when the car stopped suddenly. When I went to check on Mum, I saw that she had also hit her head and that it was bleeding.
"Mother," I said in fear, but I could see that she was already out.
I was so angry that I yelled, "What the f—k just happened?"
"We're so sorry, boss. The pigeon flew into the front of the car when a cat tried to catch it. So I wouldn't hit anyone, I had to hit the brakes as fast as I could "I was so mad at what the driver said through the window.
So you hurt my mum for a few road b*tches, I yelled. Immediately, he got down on his knees. I pulled out my gun and shot him in the head because I was mad.
As the girls ran into their shops, I could hear them yelling. As soon as I got out of the car, I saw that it was already a mess.
I said "B**ch" in a very angry voice.
"Get mom to the hospital right awa
