Chapter 1

I felt a wave of sensation flowing through my head, I could barely hear my thoughts over the pounding in my chest, a breath escaped my lips as I fought the tears that were threatening to fall out of my eyes, the noises from the office was no longer being heard, and my eyes was filled with blurry sight.

I held on to the piece of paper that was delivered to my office, I read it over and over again, and I had a feeling this had to be wrong, it couldn’t be true; the words written here were not meant for me.

Kyle couldn’t leave me, he can’t divorce me after everything we have been through, after what I did for him, and after the memories we had shared, I knew it had to be wrong.

I wiped the tears that fell against my cheek and I dropped the paper on my table, my hand shook as I tried to locate my phone, a part of me could not apprehend what was happening, I saw him this morning, we shared breakfast, and he gave me a kiss before I left.

We talked about tonight, the biggest night our lives, maybe this is wrong, or maybe it was a prank, Kyle loves to play pranks.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I dialed his number, it rang a few times, and he didn’t pick, I called yet again, and it was the same thing; I quickly sent him a message hoping he will reply; I looked away from my phone name I realized that he was not going to pick.

This was unlike him, he always answered my call, he always wanted to speak to me, and now he is nowhere to be found, the more I thought about it, I felt my heart aching against my chest as I gasped for air.

I need to get out of here, I need to find Kyle and I need an answer from him, he cannot leave me.

I retrieved the papers and my car key, I would be coming back for anything else, I have to get going, I headed out of my office and I stopped in my tracks when I saw Lisa, my secretary.

“Lisa cancel anything I have and move it for tomorrow.” I said to her, she turned to look at me, she must have known about the papers, she was the one who handed it to me.

I was stupid enough to ask her to read it out loud because I thought it was work, and the moment she was reluctant to read it at first until I forced her to do so, and I still regretted the words that escaped her lips.

Lisa didn’t look at me, she just gave me a nod and I headed out of the building, different through flickered through my mind as I headed toward the other side of the building and I got into my car.

I stayed for a moment to catch my breath, I pulled out my phone again and I called his number.

“Kyle I need you to pick up, please.” I whispered against my breath, more tears filled my eyes when I heard the phone ring over and over again, and he didn’t pick up, I bit my lips in anticipation, I felt my cheek getting more wet with my tears and my fingers gripping the wheel.

He didn’t pick up, out of anger, I threw my phone into the back seat and I drove away, I had to get to our house; we have been there for three years, that’s how long I have been married to him.

His behavior toward me changed two weeks ago, he became better, he listened more, and he cared more, he took me out for lunch every day for two weeks and he did everything he could to make me happy, I had thought things were finally better.

I wiped the tears that fell against my cheek, as I drove, I couldn’t be in an accident, I was five minutes away from the house when I heard a loud noise coming from the car, it was my phone; I stepped on the breaks and I turned back to find my phone.

My heart was racing faster than my thoughts, I sighed in annoyance when I was unable to reach for the phone, it should be somewhere in this car, and it annoyed me I could not find it.

I knew I just had to let it go, I am close to home, we can speak when I get there, I didn’t want to have this conversation when we are not together.

A part me of hoped this was a terrible joke.

I turned to the wheels and I drove away, my phone stoped ringing after a few moments; I could barely see any cars apart from the one in front of me, I drove past it and I could see the house.

I got to the house in no time, and I headed out, I clutched on the paper, as I headed into the house, there was a car in the driveway. Not only that, but I knew he was home.

I headed into the living room and I found two glasses of wine, I glanced across the room when I headed upstairs.

My heart sank when I heard noises coming from the bedroom, our bedroom, I stopped in my tracks and I felt a tear slipped out of my eyes.

My feet felt like a heavy weight crushed them as I tried to head toward the door, I felt a throbbing pain that filled my chest, and my hand shook as I placed it on the door knob.

He can’t cheat me on me, he can’t do that to me, he promised to always be with me.

A breath escaped my lips when I turned the door knob and the horror in front of me came into view.

Chapter 2

My father always told me there is one rule to surviving in the world, “Don’t trust anyone.”

Today I understood what he meant by that, when I walked in on my husband Kyle, with my sister Anna, my eyes tore away from the horror in front of me and tears streamed down my cheek, I felt my world come crashing down in front of my eyes and I looked away from both of them.

“Kyle.” I whispered, I peered up, and my eyes met his, they were still in the same position; they didn’t move, it’s like they didn’t even care I was here. “Wh-what is going on?” I whispered, I could barely hear my voice over the pounding in my chest.

My eyes burned with more tears, my eyebrows furrowed confused, and a breath escaped my lips.

Kyle didn’t say anything, neither did Anna, I looked away again, and I headed out of the room and I headed downstairs into the living room, I found myself pacing around the room, my head felt heavy against my body, my finger fiddled against each other.
