Elena’s POV

“What? What happened to my parents, how on earth is this possible?” I questioned with confusion as I rushed to the hospital.

My head hurts from the thought of my parents. Everything happened so fast last night and the last thing I could remember was rushing my parents into the emergency ward it’s almost twenty hours yet no satisfying news about them.

Tears pricked against my eyes as my fears became unbearable and a sob ripped its way from my throat. Something felt wrong. This is shocking. I waited for the doctor to show up.

“I pray nothing happens to them”. I murmured breathlessly as tears tracked down my eyes.

The hospital was busy with different patients and the nurses ran around with a lot of emergencies. I had been seated for some hours, hoping to go back home with my parents.

I was completely alone. I didn’t have any friends or relatives who cared about my family and me. They all just envy my family and our existence. Then again, thinking about my parents' situation with the thought that something might go wrong, was terrifying.

I was in tears and couldn’t even imagine anything worse than what I had been thinking. A nurse walked up to me.

“Elena, The doctor wants to speak with you”.The nurse informed me. My heart skipped a bit.

“Why? I mean what happened, how are my parents?” I rambled with words staring at the nurse who looked clueless.

“I don’t know but you have to meet the doctor to confirm”. The nurse informed me courteously, lowering her head.

I couldn’t understand what was happening. I was baffled and afraid. My heart kept beating so fast as I could feel my blood pressure rising.

I have been trying to console myself after seeing the conditions of my parents lying lifeless as they were being brought into the hospital.

“Are they going to make it out alive? Or maybe I am thinking too much”. I murmured in confusion.

I stood up immediately and shakily went straight to the doctor's office. My eyes widened with disbelief as I heard what the doctor told me.

Doctor: “I’m sorry Elena, we lost your parents. The doctor said to me as he shook his head sadly and went outside.

Right on cue, a sharp pain splintered through my chest, causing me to scream in agony.

“What do you mean? How are my parents?” I screamed as I lay down on the floor.

It was the most shocking news of my life. I cried so hard and wished death would come for me because I couldn’t withstand the pains of what was before me. I've never felt this way before.

My vision was blurred by the incessant tears that wouldn’t stop forming __ both from pain and heartache.

The door swung open, and the doctor stepped into the office and the nurse in tow. They’d been having me monitored since the doctor told me of my parent's demise.

“Did any miracle happen? Are my parents awake now?” I questioned, noting the pitiful look on Doctor Anthony’s face.

“Mrs. Elena, you need to calm down and get a hold of yourself," Doctor Anthony conveyed to me. Looking at me with a pitiful face, one could tell that he was feeling guilty for not being able to save my parent's lives.

“Calm down for what exactly, “I screamed as I held the doctor's coat with tears rolling down from my eyes. “Where are my parents? “What exactly did you do to them? “I asked the doctor in anger and frustration.

I still couldn't believe what the doctor just said to me, at that moment I was speechless waiting for a miracle to happen. The thought of being left alone in this cruel world got me shaking as my eyes were filled with tears.

“Mrs. Elena”, the doctor calmly called my name as he quietly stood close to me. “Please sign these papers so that your parent's bodies will be deposited into the mortuary”. The doctor politely told me.

I felt annoyed, no one had ever asked me to sign something so final.

“Oh wow, sign what useless papers? My parents are not dead, go in there and do your job immediately”, I screamed at the doctor. “Make sure you bring them back to life don’t dare me" I command with tears dropping down from my eyes.

I had never felt this way before I vaguely remembered the pain my parents must have been through.

This can’t be happening to me.

I did this. It is all my fault. I shouldn’t have turned twenty today, they should have stayed with me instead of wanting to surprise me. My parents died because of me and I don’t think I will forget this day. This is the worst moment of my life.

I had no other choice but to accept the fact that my only family is no more and am alone in this lonely world. I lost the only people in my life. This is the bitter truth of being an only child of the most envied wealthy billionaire.

“Hey young lady, you need to calm down, all hope is not lost. “You need to get yourself together so that your parent's soul will be at rest.“ a handsome young man said to me.

Seems like he has been observing the drama of pain being displayed. My eyes are swollen and I feel terrible. This is the worst day of my life. I never thought I would get to be an orphan someday.

I had no other choice than to go and sign the papers that needed to be signed before depositing my parent's dead body at the mortuary

“Sit please, I’ll be right back”. The stranger said and left.

“Okay dear” I responded.

“Why is it taking so long to bring the documents I at least needed to see my parents for the last who knows they might not be dead yet.

Everything was just scary for me, my mental state was sh*t and now I have to mourn the death of my parents who left me in this wicked world the same day and time without thinking twice.

The nurse arrived with some files which she handed over to me I stared at the document for a while and signed them with tears on my face I needed to embrace them for the last time ever I had no other option than to talk to the nurse about it

“Nurse please can I get to see my parents for the last time before taking them away? “I asked the nurse.

“No ma’am the doctor already gave an order that you’re not allowed to see or go close to your parent's bodies at the moment “she responded.

“Why, like what for?” I queried beaming with anger.

“Mrs. Elena was the doctor's order. She shook her head as she could see the pain in my eyes. She muttered sadly and left.

“Who does that and which hospital will not allow an individual to see their patients? Are you stupid?

“Where are these stupid rules coming from? “I screamed with anger.

“Why can’t I see my parents for the last time before taking them to the mortuary? “I asked as I burst into tears”.

“If I don’t get to see my parents I will make sure I destroy this place y’all are murderers. “I screamed in anger.

“Hey calm down people are watching, don't allow your emotions to get the best of you. “The stranger said to me,

“I just wish you would understand them and wait until you’re allowed to see them, “he still suggested.

“Ohh wow Mr stranger, did you also collide with them to kill my parents?

“Are you just pretending to care for me? “Do I look like a mess to you?

“Hell please stay the fu*k away from me.“I said to him, leaching out my anger at him.

“Please calm down, meanwhile my name is Alexander, “he said to me.

“Who cares what your name is? “I responded angrily and sighed at him.

“It’s fine though, can you at least have something to eat?

He politely pleaded with me.

“I’m not hungry, “I just need to see my parents this last time I said as I burst into tears again.

“Hey you’ll see your parent's bodies for the last time I promise you," he said to me with confidence as he left to see the doctor.

The whole incident was just too much for me to bear. I don't think I can survive this because I am terrified that the whole trauma is just too much for me to handle. I sat down hopelessly, thinking about the whole situation.

“Good afternoon Mrs Elena Santiago”

A deep voice greeted me,

“Good afternoon sir,

ELENA’s POV

“ What are you doing? “Alex tries to stop the officers who already handcuffed me as we were about to leave.

We left the hospital and headed to the police station. Indeed it was the worst day of my life losing my parents and being arrested the same day sucks.

Aunty Caroline never called to ask about my parent’s conditions so how come they are here? I was still in pain because she gave me a hot slap.
