Annotation

She hated babysitting. She hated childish people. She never expected to become the one being kept. Isabella Athiya Bueno has everything: money, power, and a carefully polished reputation as the untouchable heiress of a powerful political family. What she does not have is freedom. After a school festival, Isabella is dragged into the darkness, bound, blindfolded, and taken to a remote barn by a man who refuses to explain himself. He tells her he is not required to watch her every second. Yet somehow, he never truly leaves. He is quiet. Careful. Dangerous. And strangely familiar. As the days pass, Isabella's anger begins to crack. The same hands that tied her are the ones that catch her when she nearly falls. The same voice that once ordered her to stay silent now speaks softly into a phone, promising that she is safe. But while Isabella is trapped, her life outside the barn is falling apart. Political enemies are closing in on her family. A childhood friend is hiding deadly secrets. And the people she trusts most are about to betray her in ways she never imagined. What begins as captivity slowly becomes something far more complicated. Protection. Trust. Obsession. And a love she never asked for, yet cannot seem to escape. In a life built on appearances, power, and control, Isabella is forced to face the one truth she has always refused to accept: Sometimes, the person who takes away your freedom may be the only one who can keep you alive.

Prologue & Chapter One

Prologue

Have you ever had to babysit a child? The kind who is considerably younger than you and is difficult to control because they are so annoyingly mischievous?

Take care of them here; take care of them there.

Chase after them here, chase after them there.

It gets exhausting. Irritating.

They are with you in everything you do. Preparing food, taking a bath, playing. Even when you are taking a sh*t, they are peeking through the bathroom door, waiting for you to finish your own business.

Sometimes, it is funny, but most of the time, it is just d*mn irritating.

Me? I hate children. I hate childish people, too. The slightest thing happens, and they cry. Someone steps on their foot, and they cry. A few words come out of your mouth, even when they are not remotely worth crying over, and they will cry anyway.

You would think you would be happy to finally have the chance to take care of someone, even if it is just a child.

But what is so exciting about being a babysitter when the person you are supposed to take care of has the brain of an idiot?

I am not talking about an actual child because... the person I was assigned to take care of was an adult.

Who would be happy about being assigned to babysit a nineteen-year-old who could make you want to retire from the job you were forced into?

Actually... there was nothing fun about it. Not even a little.

He said, "I'm not required to watch you all the time."

F*ck his line!

I do not know why I dislike children so much, but when it comes to me, I have never actually felt hatred toward them.

Maybe I am just too picky about the people I allow to get close to me. Hardly anyone dares approach me because of how unpleasant I can be. Almost everyone I pass on the street immediately lowers their gaze whenever I walk past them.

I proudly say this... I really f*ck*ng hate those freaking children. Especially when you see those smiles on their faces, as if they are planning to do something terrible to you. I am really not into that kind of thing.

The way they stare at you... it is as if they are secretly killing you in their minds.

I have trust issues with practically everything. The slightest thing happens... I immediately assume there is a demand. The slightest thing happens... I immediately think it is a scam. The slightest movement... and I immediately assume someone has made a mistake.

And the mistake I am talking about is having to take care of a child who is constantly by your side.

Do you know why I can say all these things?

Because I am one of those people who has a hard time with it.

I am not saying that... I have a hard time with myself.

I have a hard time with the people around me... and that is the thing I hate most of all.

I really hate babysitting!

And I am not the one doing the babysitting because... I am the one being babysat by that f*ck*ng b*st*rd.

Chapter One

I jolted awake at the sound of some creature's crowing, an irritating noise that had been getting on my nerves ever since I was brought to this filthy barn.

I did not even know why I was here or what the hell they had sent me here for!

The two of us had traveled far from civilization and the city, with that Judas leading the way. If you ask me, I would say he deliberately made sure I could not memorize the route we took yesterday. He was probably afraid that I might remember the way back to the city and escape from this f*ck*ng place he had brought me to!

Oh, wait. How was I supposed to memorize the route when he had covered my entire head with a thin piece of cloth?

Did he seriously think I would be happy about that?

And did he really think I could figure out the way when my head was trapped inside that black, foul-smelling cloth?

Of all the things he could have used to cover my head... why did it have to be something that smelled like fish? Who would be happy about that? Go on!

Tell me! I want to know why! Why me?!

Did I do something so terrible to deserve this kind of torture? To be forced to lie on a hard, dusty bamboo bed?

In my entire life... my parents had never once let me sleep on this kind of f*ck*ng bed! Not even once had I experienced this kind of torture! Never had I been forced to lie on something like this!

The rooster outside continued to crow one after another, and I could only curse them silently in my head. No matter how much I screamed, not a single sound came out of my mouth because... it was gagged with a piece of white cloth.

Luckily, the cloth smelled fairly nice and even looked freshly washed. Not bad for something that looked like it belonged to Saint Laurent.

A kidnapper with expensive taste in brands?

Now that was something new.

Yes, I was forcefully dragged into an unknown armored vehicle, and after that... I could not remember a single thing.

The only thing I remembered from yesterday was that I had just come from the school festival with Marites... and after that, nothing.

I did not even know how they managed to snatch me without anyone noticing that I was missing.

Whoever shameless b*st*rd had orchestrated this whole f*ck*ng mess had picked a fight with the wrong family!

I swear, I will have Daddy kill you the moment they find me here in the middle of this f*ck*ng field!

I quickly rolled across the hard bamboo bed. The movement caused me to tumble over the edge and land face-first on the floor, sending a sharp pain through my chest and stomach.

I knew this would leave a mark on my body, and that would be the only evidence I could hold on to once I escaped this f*ck*ng place...

That is, if I was still alive and they had not already decided to tear my organs out.

My fall landed with a loud thud, stirring up a cloud of dust that filled the air and made my eyes sting and water.

They immediately began to tear up, and I could not even rub them because my hands and feet were tightly bound together with an unbearably tight rope.

Because of the noise, I quickly heard the wooden door open, followed by the familiar sound of footsteps on the ground.

I immediately closed my eyes.

I quickly turned my face to the side so he would not see the tears in my eyes, caused by the dirt that had apparently gotten deep inside them.

"Are you awake?" a familiar voice asked.

My eyes were already irritated, my position was uncomfortable, I was already irritated by his presence, and then he had to ask questions that sounded even more irritating to my ears.

"Isn't it obvious?" I asked in my head.

Since my mouth was still gagged, I had no choice but to throw all my resentment and hatred toward him into the safety of my own thoughts for now.

He slowly took hold of my arm and tried to lay me back down on the floor. I decided to pretend that I was still asleep, just in case he had plans to do something bad to me. What if, after seeing that I was awake... he decided to punch me in the stomach so I would fall asleep again?

I still remembered those drugs, or whatever those capsules were called, that he had forcibly made me swallow last night. They had quickly made me drowsy, leaving me unable to fight back against him.

I felt him slowly lift me off the ground and carry me back to the ridiculously hard bamboo bed before laying me down on it again.

Instead of struggling, I stuck to my decision to pretend to be asleep, even though every decision he made on my behalf was completely against my will.

Could I at least request a king-size mattress? I really hate this kind of stuff. I had never experienced this kind of mistreatment in my entire life, and now I was experiencing it because of him?

No... f*ck*ng no!

Like I said earlier, I am not the one doing the babysitting because...

I am the child being babysat, just like I described in my earlier statements. I am the childish one I was talking about, and I am the victim in this f*ck*ng situation!

I could not even remember why I had ended up in a situation like this.

I had been a good daughter, so why was this the reward for all my sacrifices?

In fact, I was the one my Daddy always ignored...

Yeah, being threatened with my own life was nothing new to me, but... why was it like this?

I want to know why!

I was forced to leave home for a while after Daddy and I had a huge argument, but three days after that confrontation, his own bodyguards carried me back to the house where they were staying.

After that incident, we never argued like that again... unless he insisted on starting an argument that we would inevitably have to settle whenever he said something I did not agree with.

Even though Daddy and I often fought and got on each other's nerves over the smallest things, mostly because he never had time for me, it never crossed my mind that he would create something like this just to teach me a lesson.

That was why I did not care if he became the main suspect in this kidnapping.

Because I knew for a fact that Daddy had nothing to do with it because...

When had he ever cared about me?

He had never had time for me, so a setup like this... it was almost impossible to believe.

When had he ever gotten the idea to make time for me?

I was his only child, and yet this was what I had to feel.

He had already failed as a husband to Mommy, and now he was going to fail as a father to me, too?

Sounds unfair, right?

He had more than enough time for his business, but for me, his only child and the one and only product of his relationship with Mommy... he had no time.

If anything, he should have been making up for all the time he had lost with me, but what kind of making up was this?

I had already been kidnapped, and I had not even heard a single word from him.

Like... was he even looking for me?

I'm curious, okay?

I just want to know why.

When?

When were they going to do something to get me out of this f*ck*ng place?

I felt some kind of cloth touch my cheek, immediately wiping away the tears that had flowed from my eyes after my fall earlier.

There was something gentle in the way he moved the cloth across my face, as though he was afraid of pressing it too hard and hurting me.

Yes, I had experienced being handled by people as if I were made of glass, as though one wrong movement could cause me to shatter.

I was already used to people like that because almost everyone I encountered was too afraid to even look me directly in the eye because of his influence.

I would not even be surprised if Daddy's business and Mommy's political career were considered the reason behind my kidnapping. There were plenty of people who wanted the position and life that we had, and that was the part that bothered me the most.

Chapter 2

These days, there are countless people who aspire to hold positions that everyone dreams of. There are media outlets everywhere, constantly keeping tabs on everything you do and every move you make in life...

And that was the very reason that kept my soul alive.

I grew up having all the attention of the people around me. Luxury, money, and almost every decision I made were given to me without question. They could never disobey my orders because they were afraid of making me angry. No one ever dared to correct me when I was wrong...

And that was what I envied about other children like me. They made mistakes and bad decisions in life, too, but... but they had parents by their side who were willing to correct them for the mistakes they made. Parents who would stop them from doing things that could ruin their lives. The kind who were willing to say things that might hurt their feelings as long as it kept them on the right path.
