What clever schemes will they devise to achieve their goal?
Chapter 1
“This is the divorce agreement. Sign it," the man's voice was crisp, as if he were discussing a trivial matter.
Cassidy Aarvi felt suffocated. She helplessly made a fold in her clothes and remained silent.
In front of her, a handsome man in an expensive custom-made suit grew impatient quickly. Seeing that she didn't move, he snorted coldly.
"Do you want to take it back?"
Staring at the man, tears welled up in Cassidy's eyes as she fell onto the agreement. Three seconds later, she took the pen and wrote her name on it.
The moment she finished writing, she knew that the man in front of her would no longer associate with her.
That man was her husband, Dylan Edwards, whom she had loved for two years. He was the CEO of the powerful and wealthy Edwards Group.
To strangers, Dylan seemed to love and spoil her, taking care of everything for her. It was all just an illusion.
Cassidy knew that her marriage was merely a transaction. If it weren't for the money needed to cure her mother, she would not have married him. Two years had passed, and she was finally free.
Cassidy thought to herself, "That woman must be coming back, right?"
Dylan put out the cigarette in her hand, took the divorce agreement from her, and said, "You are smart enough. Before I return tonight, pack your things in a suitcase and leave. I do not want to see you again."
"This is a check for one hundred and fifty thousand dollars," he added, throwing the check to her.
Cassidy clenched her fists for a moment before taking the check in her hand.
As it was getting late, Cassidy gathered her belongings. Just as she was about to leave, it started to rain heavily.
She loaded her luggage and opened the door. Suddenly, someone pressed her to the ground, and she felt a man's breath on her neck.
"Dylan, what are you doing?"
"Selena, don't...don't leave me," Dylan murmured.
Cassidy smiled, as if mocking herself. It turned out that he mistook her for Selena.
"Selena, I miss you so much."
"I'm not Selena, stop it," Cassidy said, trying to push Dylan away.
However, Dylan was too drunk to listen to her explanation.
"You can't leave me, Selena. I'll leave a mark on you, so you can remember me forever!" Dylan exclaimed.
Confused, Dylan glanced around the room, and his eyes landed on a pack of cigarettes. Selena lit one and held his chin, "Look at me, Selena. You won't leave me, right?"
Before Selena could respond, Cassidy opened her eyes in pain. Dylan discarded the cigarette after leaving a mark on her chest.
Before she could fully comprehend what was happening, he assaulted her, causing her face to contort in agony. The next morning, the wind outside the house had ceased, but the rain continued to fall.
Inside the mansion, Cassidy struggled to pick up her clothes and awkwardly put them on with the help of a woman who was bent over slightly.
As she gazed at the man who was sleeping soundly, Cassidy's eyes were filled with a mix of emotions.
Before she could process her thoughts, Dylan furrowed his brow. Startled, Cassidy remembered his words from the previous day and quickly made her way down the stairs, leaning against the wall.
He had made it clear that he didn't want to see her again. As she opened the door, Cassidy was taken aback to see a beautiful woman standing on the other side.
She was slightly taller than Cassidy, wearing a colorful dress, and a clean smile graced her delicate, white face.
She greeted Cassidy warmly.
"Hello, I'm Selena Johnson. Dylan called me last night," she said in an eloquent tone.
Hearing this, Cassidy turned to let her in.
"Where are you going?"Selena asked.
Her words felt like a sharp jab to Cassidy's heart.
"Dylan is upstairs. He's waiting for you." Weakly, Cassidy replied.
"I know you. You're a good girl. Leaving Dylan is your best option," Selena said with a hint of nostalgia.
"He has liked me for a long time, but he is afraid of hurting me. Anyway, I'm sorry. Even though you may never find a man as excellent as him, I still hope you find happiness."
Selena smiled as she held the handle of the door. In an instant, she transformed her attitude completely, as if she were the host now. As Cassidy left the mansion, the door closed behind her, creating a sense of finality.
Cassidy realized that she and Dylan would no longer be in contact. She was in a daze when the ringing of the phone snapped her back to reality. Seeing who was calling, she grabbed the phone and rushed out into the rain.
"Cassidy, it's your mom... I might not make it," her mother's voice trembled.
After hanging up, Cassidy hurried to the best hospital in the country. She rushed into the living room and was startled to find an unattractive middle-aged man standing inside.
She didn't know who the man was.
Without thinking, Cassidy opened the door and asked anxiously, "Mom, are you okay?"
On the bed lay a middle-aged woman with a reddish face and well-groomed skin.
She didn't seem sick at all.
Seeing her coming, Sameen snorted, "Cassidy, I'm starving. If you don't come, I think you've forgotten who gave birth to you."
"Why are your clothes wet?" Sameen asked.
"I..." Cassidy hesitated.
"Forget it. You didn't pay attention to anything. Let me introduce you to him. This is a friend who I've known for many years, his name is Jaylord Huxley. He is the CEO of the Huxley Group."
Cassidy looked down and said nothing. She didn't understand why Sameen was introducing her to this man.
"I'm counting the days for you. Are you divorced?" Sameen asked. Cassidy held back, not knowing what to say.
She seemed to agree.
"Where is the money?" Sameen asked again.
"What money?" Cassidy said, confused.
Before she could finish her words, she heard Sameen cry and scream, "You're such an ungrateful girl! You have prostituted yourself for nothing! Tell me, what should we do now?
“What should we do?"
"Mom, I..." Cassidy was surprised.
“Shut up! Get out!" Sameen shouted.
After escorting Cassidy out, Sameen looked at the man in front of her, who was not tall and a little dirty. She asked him, "Mr. Huxley, what do you think of my daughter? Are you satisfied?"
Jaylord rubbed his chin. As Cassidy hurried back through the rain, her clothes stuck to her body, accentuating her figure, and making her look particularly attractive.
"Not bad, name a price."
"750 thousand dollars."
Jaylord raised his eyebrows and extended his hand with a gold ring. While making a gesture, he said in disbelief, "750 thousand dollars? Forget it."
As Jaylord was about to leave, Sameen continued, "Three hundred thousand dollars! And she's yours. Don't forget she was Dylan's wife. Doesn't she want to humiliate him?"
Jaylord paused and pulled a check out of his shirt pocket. "A divorced woman worth three hundred thousand dollars? Here's thirty thousand dollars. Does she want it?" he said scornfully.
"Thirty thousand dollars? Is she kidding me?" Sameen shouted.
Jaylord scoffed, "Forget it. I can pay for a lot of women with that money."
He pretended to retrieve the check, but Sameen snatched it from him.
"Humph! We have been friends for many years, but you still behave like this. Deal done," Sameen said firmly.
Jaylord laughed rather unpleasantly.
"Cassidy, come in!" Sameen called out.
Cassidy entered the room again. Sameen said, "Cassidy, I'm not feeling well. Go say goodbye to Mr. Huxley."
"Mom, let me change my clothes first," Cassidy said obediently.
Cassidy borrowed clothes from the hospital. She couldn't let others see her like this.
An idea suddenly occurred to Sameen, "Okay, you can go to the bathroom now."
As soon as Cassidy left, Sameen winked at Jaylord. Then Jaylord followed Cassidy.
Cassidy changed her clothes and washed her face at the sink to wake up. However, when she raised her head, she screamed.
Jaylord suddenly hugged her from behind with an obscene smile.
Chapter 2
“What are you doing? Let me go," Cassidy exclaimed as she resisted fiercely, feeling a wave of nausea in her heart.
She wondered why Jaylord was there.
"Pearly, why are you resisting? Your mother sold you for thirty thousand dollars. Now you belong to me. Let me tell you the truth. Your mother is not sick. She wants you to give her money. If you obey me, maybe I will treat you well," Jaylord said with a sinister smile on his face.
"What?" Cassidy asked in disbelief, feeling as if lightning had struck her.
Her mind went blank, unable to believe all of this.
"Be a good girl, okay? I will satisfy you now. Many women like my weapon. Let me see the difference between you and the other women, since you slept with Dylan." Jaylord continued.
As Jaylord reached out to touch her hand, Cassidy regained her senses. Her face turned deathly pale. She then hit him with her forehead and kicked him hard in the crotch. Jaylord screa
