BLURB: “He lied to me, Domenico! I wouldn't have joined forces with him to fight you if I knew he was lying to me.” I say in a hollow and devastated tone, trying my best to reach the humane part of the man I love. “You chose him over me, Eve. You threw away everything we built. All that we had.” Domenico says through gritted teeth, his expression one of unbridled anger. “What was I supposed to do?! He's my brother!” I cry out, trying to get him to see reason. “You ruined me once, and I won't stop until you pay for what you did.” “By the time I'm done with your family, the Lamont Family will be nothing but a forgotten memory.” Domenico says as he holds me captive with his dark glare. __________________________ Eve’s world is shattered when she finds out that Domenico was behind her parents’ deaths. Convinced by her brother’s lies, she walked away from the man she loved. But as the truth unravels, she’s pulled back into a dangerous game she thought she’d escaped. When it comes to light that Domenico is not the man she thought he was and things weren't exactly black and white, will she continue to seek revenge against him? Or will they unite together to fight against the common enemy? Or will they drown in their hate for each other?

Chapter 1: Mistaken For Zara

EVE'S POV:

Green. Red. Lilac. Orange. I murmur the colours under my breath as I force a smile onto my lips.

“I'm sorry but you are going to have to leave.” I say in a calm but quivering tone, betraying my fear.

“Evie, you know you are going to have to let me back in eventually, right?” Trevor says with an annoying smirk on his lips.

“I'm working, Trevor. You could make them fire me. Please leave.” I say once again without fire as my eyes settle on a random spot on his shoulders.

“Why are you being so difficult? Mother wants you to come over for dinner tonight, and you know how selective she is of the people that she invites.” Trevor says to me, playing the guilt card that always works on me.

“I — I uh— I'm going to be very busy tonight!” I try to explain as I wring my hands together.

“Mother is also busy but she keeps making out time for you.” Trevor chides softly as he takes a step closer to me, making me more uncomfortable.

“Alright. Fine. I will pay her a visit.” I say with a heavy sigh already regretting my decision. But at this point I will do anything to get him away from me.

“That wasn't so hard now, Evie, was it?” Trevor asks in a mocking tone.

“Is everything okay here?” Josh, the owner of the diner beside the club asks as he steps closer towards me.

“Yes. Everything is okay. Trevor was just leaving.” I say, breathing a little easier now that Josh is around.

Trevor sends an annoyed look my way but I ignore it. He eventually leaves when he realises that Josh is not going anywhere.

This is the price I pay for not listening to my instincts. I should never have dated Trevor to start with and I should definitely have set firmer boundaries the moment we broke up.

“Why do you keep hanging with that douchebag, Eve?” Josh asks as he glares at Trevor's retreating form.

I don't bother telling him that I had already told Trevor to stay away from me a countless number of times but he has refused to listen. There is no need to add fuel to fire.

“He's not that bad when you get to know him.” I say with a wince at the tone of my voice. Even I was annoyed with my statement.

“How did someone as sweet as you get mixed up with the likes of Trevor?” Josh presses once more as he stares inquisitively at me.

I give Josh a tight smile. “I'm very busy, Josh. I'm going to get back to work.”

Josh gives me a small smile in return as he steps back into the diner.

“You know he has the hots for you right?” Lily, one of my coworkers asks with a giggle.

“Don't you have something else to do other than poke your nose in people's business?” I ask with a sour expression on my face.

“This is my off time, Evie. Don't be a b*tch about it.” Lily says, rolling her eyes at me as she takes out a cigarette from her pocket.

“I'm— I'm sorry.” I say half heartedly, not in the mood to pick a fight with the only person I consider my friend in this hell hole.

“It's cool.” Lily says as she goes back to her smoking. “Please can you cover for me tonight?” I ask in a desperate tone after a few minutes.

“Why? You've never asked before.” Lily asks with a frown of confusion on her face.

“Trevor made me agree to have dinner with his mom.” I say in an annoyed tone.

“I thought you broke up with him? You owe him nothing, darling.” Lily says as she takes a drag from her cigarette.

“I know that, but Anna has always been very nice to me. Heck, she's one of the reasons I didn't break up with him ever since.” I say in a sour tone.

“One of these days, Evie, you are going to have to stop being so nice.” Lily says in a calm tone as she glances at me.

“I know. I'm trying my best.” I say in a sad tone.

“I've got you covered princess. Go home.” Lily says in a joking tone as her attention shifts away from me.

“Thank you, Lily. I will make it up to you.” I say as I return back to the club.

I pass by Yuri, the club's bouncer and it takes everything in me not to scratch his eyes out. He was the one who put me in this difficult position to begin with.

A few months ago, I was desperately in need of money. The florist shop was failing and I was behind on the rent.

I wandered in here one hot afternoon and Yuri had magically guessed my problems, he offered to loan me some money to settle my problems in exchange for working for the club.

I thought I had found a deal made in heaven. I readily agreed, signing a contract with them only to find out that I had sold myself to the club for a few thousand dollars.

Now I basically worked for free for the club and they could make me do things I had no interest in doing.

“When are you going to work the poles, Vie? You could make me some real cash. You know? Speed up the payment of the money you owe me.” Zeke the club manager and brother to the owner of the club says with a lewd smile on his face.

“I'm okay with my current pace.” I say with a fake smile on my lips. ‘Never. Not if I have my way.’ I mutter to myself.

“One of these days, I'm going to make you change your mind.” Zeke says as he walks away from me, leaving me standing in the short corridor.

I close my eyes and breathe in deeply. Purple. Pink. Puce. Peach. Pale cerulean. Like always, the colours stopped me from spiralling down the deep end.

I have to think of something to get me out of this situation. I refuse to strip. I've seen what most of the male customers do to the other girls who strip and I can't go through that.

The remainder of my afternoon shift passes in a blur and soon I'm on my way home. I have to prepare for dinner with Trevor's mom anyway.

I pull my sweater together when I remember that Zoe— or Zara, as she now calls herself is still missing.

This has happened before but she always found a way to stay in touch with me considering we only had each other. Our parents had died in a car crash leaving me and Zara to fend for ourselves.

I had little to no memory of them due to the amnesia I suffered from severe trauma to my head.

This had been one of the major things that made my outlook on life significantly different from Zara's own. My twin sister was a pessimist and a cynic, to put it lightly.

I still had no idea what Zara's work was all about and no matter how many times I asked her about it, she refused to tell me anything.

My hand flies to the pearl hanging loosely around my neck as I pray for her continued protection.

I change into a simple black dress with some flats and call an uber. I know I'm not obligated to have dinner with Trevor's mother but I had already given my word and hell would freeze over before I go back on it.

I press the doorbell at the side of the door, twisting my fingers together to avoid them twitching in anxiety.

“Eve! I didn't know you would be coming.” Anna, Trevor's mother, says in a surprised but excited tone that leaves me stunned.

“Trevor said you invited me for dinner.” I say with a confused tilt of my brows. What game is Trevor playing?

“Oh? He didn't say anything. But you are always welcome here honey. Come inside.” Anna says as she pushes the door wide open.

“I'm sorry I couldn't bring anything with me. It was kind of last minute and—” I start rambling as I follow closely behind her.

“Oh don't be silly, your presence is enough for me.” Anna says as she waves her hands around in a show of nonchalance.

“You are too nice, Anna—” I start to say before I screech to a halt at the sight of the most gorgeous man I've ever laid my eyes on.

“Take a seat honey. You are welcome to sit anywhere.” Anna says as she heads towards the kitchen.

I'm awestruck and unable to move as my eyes slowly appraise the man standing at the corner of the room with a phone to his ear.

He was nothing less than six foot three inches tall. His body was so muscular he looked like he could snap me in two with a flick of his wrist. His short black curls framed his well chiselled face.

“I'm going to call you back later, Jack.” The rich timber of his voice floats across the room, the harsh tone finally freeing me from stupor.

“Hi, good evening.” I say in a squeaky tone that sounds silly even to my hearing.

The man does nothing but glare at me, while recognition flashes through his eyes. Did I do something to wrong this god in the short span of time since I first laid my eyes on him?

I'm about to dissolve into a puddle of nerves when Anna walks into the room, saving me from further disgrace.

“Oh good, you've met Domenico. Dom this is Evie, Trevor's ex and Evie this is my younger brother.” Anna says with a wide smile on her face as she settles down on her chair.

I avert my eyes from the man's figure as I settle down beside Anna. Domenico sits across from me, keeping his eyes trained on me the whole time.

Just when I begin to relax and enjoy my food, Trevor comes into the house with a girl hanging onto his elbow. So this is why he invited me.

“Mother. Sorry I'm late.” Trevor says with a cheeky smile that grates on my nerves.

“This is Eva. Eva, this is my mom, my uncle and Eve, my obsessed ex.” Trevor says in an annoyed tone as he points at each of us.

I choke on the water I'm drinking, breathing heavily through my nose to avoid choking once more.

“Ewww. Why can't you move on?” The girl Eva says in a high pitched voice that has me flushing red in embarrassment.

“Stop this nonsense, Trevor.” Anna says in an angry tone as she clasps my hands in hers.

“That's okay, I will just go.” I say in a hurried tone, my eyes cast down in despair.

“Stay.” Domenico says in a harsh but flat tone as he stares at me, daring me to move. Everyone stares at him in shock but he refuses to explain himself.

I know I should learn to stand up for myself but maybe today is not that day.

Dinner goes downhill from there. The little jabs Eva throws my way has me holding back my tears.

I'm more than ready to leave by the time dinner is over. I bid Anna a hasty goodbye, promising to check in on her very soon while knowing I wouldn't.

“Rushing off to somewhere?” Domenico's harsh voice stops me in my tracks as he steps out of the house, shutting the door behind him.

“I just want to go home.” I say in a shaky tone as I take a hasty step backwards when he moves towards me.

“What? The tension was too much for you, Zara?” He asks in a mocking tone that gives me whiplash.

“You know Zara?!” I ask in an alarmed tone. Maybe this stranger could finally lead me to my sister.

“I'm not in the mood for your stupid games, Zara. Get in the car. It's time you pay for what you did.” Domenico says as he presses the key fob in his hands, opening the car door.

What the hell is going on? Wait— He thinks I'm Zara!

“Look, this is all a misunderstanding. I promise—”

“Get in the f*ck*ng car, Zara or I will lock you up in the trunk.” Domenico says with enough menace in his tone that has me fearing for my life.

Chapter 2: Search For An Escape.

EVE'S POV:

“Get in.” Domenico says as he holds the door wide open.

“What do you want from me?” I ask in a shaky tone as I take an involuntary step closer to the car.

Before I can utter another word in question, I find myself being lifted and thrust into the car without my consent. Domenico bangs the door shut and locks the car.

“Look, I meant no harm. Trevor has been the one bothering me!” I say urgently. This probably has to do with Trevor, right? Right?

Just before we pull out of the curb, I see Trevor and his new flavor of the week standing on the front porch of his mother's house. Trevor was glaring daggers at me while the girl looked on with ardent curiosity.

“I wouldn't do that if I were you.” Domenico says in a quiet harsh tone as my hands flies to the door handle.

“What is going on here?! You can't just kidnap me without explanations!” I say through gritted teeth, my patience running thin.
