Chapter 1

"Jenny, honey bear!" I heard a loud scream and groaned inwardly.

I turned and looked at my best friend, Adrian, who always thought he could come to my cafe whenever he wanted.

— Yes, Adrian? I asked sarcastically, knowing he was probably there because he'd taken a break from work and wanted to piss me off. I didn't mean to be rude, he was my best friend, after all, but he was a pain in the *ss sometimes.

“I'm making that lasagna you love today. He smiled, but I saw something in his eyes. And I really couldn't tell at first what it was.

— What is the occasion? I asked, putting away some files.

Adrian looked away uncomfortably. He was probably the easiest guy to get along with I ever came across. There was something about Adrian that attracted me almost instantly. It was impossible not to like him. He was beautiful, really beautiful. With his half-French, half-Italian ancestry, he definitely attracted attention wherever he went.

His hair was dark brown, his face perfectly chiseled. He was, without a doubt, a Greek god, and I was sure I could feel something for him if he wasn't gay. But Adrian, in addition to being gay, was an unassuming gay. No matter how many times I told him that it didn't matter to those who really loved him, that his sexuality was no big deal, he refused to believe me.

“Ahm…” Adrian's voice snapped me out of my reverie. I gave him a confused look. “I have to ask you something.

“And why can't you do it now? I asked, frowning. He was never a stranger unless he had some big favor to ask of me.

“Because I'm hoping you're happy and drunk enough to say yes. he said shyly.

I squinted at him.

“Adrian Lawrence, what the hell are you up to?

He stood up.

— Bye, Jenny! See you at dinner! — Without waiting for me to answer, he left. I glanced at the door, wondering what he had in mind right now. The last time he'd done something like this, I'd ended up at a stripper club. And that was a story I would be happy if I could forget.

The phone rang and I picked it up, using the most professional tone I could.

— King's Coffee.

— Jennifer! My mother greeted me and I smiled. - How are you? You didn't answer your cell, so I had to call your office. Are you busy?

- Hi Mom. - I answered. “I'm not busy, I was just talking to Adrian. What was it?

“I just called to let you know you're having a visitor soon. She said and I frowned.

Realizing that she wouldn't be the one to come see me, I asked. — A visit from whom?

— From Mr. Harrison. she said and I felt a pang of annoyance inside me. I heard some decks in the background, and then a d*mn loud sound. “Oh dear, your father managed to nail his finger with the hammer again, I'll calm him down, so see you later. Take care dear!

-Bye mom. I said as she hung up. I put the phone back in its place and resisted the urge to bang my head on the table. I had enough problems in my life and Mr. Harrison became one more to add to all the others. He was convinced that he could solve all my problems with his magical Midas Touch and I hated him for it.

- MS. Kingsley? My cafe manager Nella poked her head into the office. “We have a client wanting to see you.

I raised my eyebrows. - Because?

“He said he'd rather discuss this with you. She said and I groaned, knowing who it was. I got up and walked out of the office, smoothing my pencil skirt. Mr. Harrison was standing in the center of the cafe with a smile on his face.

- What you want? I asked, not caring if I sounded too rude.

"That's no way to talk to your…" he began and before he could continue the sentence, I glared at him, making him shut up.

“Look, if you want a drink, you're welcome, but I'm busy right now, so I'm sorry. With that I walked away, leaving him frowning behind me.

I turned and looked in the mirror, wondering if my *ss looked too big in the dress. I was all dressed up for dinner at Adrian's apartment, as I didn't know if it would just be the two of us that night. Personally, I preferred to go in a bathrobe and fluffy slippers.

I wore a navy blue dress with a low neckline, stopping just above the knee. I put on my heels and took only my cell phone. As soon as I arrived at Adrian's apartment, I was surprised to see the door already open.

— Adrian? I yelled cautiously, looking for any scene of a possible murder or a thief.

“I'm getting dressed, Jenny! - He screamed. — Help yourself to wine. Or whatever you prefer.

I took off my sandals, knowing now that it would just be us. I should have gone in a bathrobe anyway, so I cursed him for not giving me more details about the night. I walked over to his liquor cabinet and pulled out a bottle of whiskey. Normally, I didn't drink anything very strong, but the liquor supply he had in his house was limited. I poured myself some whiskey, and then I saw Adrian walk in, wearing nothing but a pair of shorts. The sight of him like that would make any woman drool, but I was way beyond that stage. I raised an eyebrow at him.

"Couldn't you have told me you weren't dressed?" I said and he chuckled, pouring himself a glass of whiskey.

"But it's so fun to see your face!" Maybe we can hang around the clubs in town later. he suggested, wiggling his eyebrows from side to side.

- No, thank you. - I refused. “What did you want to tell me?

He placed the glass on the table. - Let's have dinner!

I squinted at his suspicious behavior, but he walked into the dining room without another word. What he wanted to say to me must be something important for him to act this way. And his attitude was filling me with curiosity.

In the middle of dinner I couldn't take it anymore. So I looked at him and demanded.

“Adrian Lawrence,” I snapped, “you better tell me right now what's going on, or I swear—”

“Oops, calm down, Jenny. he said, putting his hands up. “Just promise not to go crazy.

I raised an eyebrow but remained serious.

— My parents want me to go to their house. - He said.

- AND? I said, slurring the words.

“I told my mom I have a girlfriend, and she said I have to take her along. I can't say no now because it's late as my brother confirmed it too so I have to be there. He said it so fast I had to strain my ears to catch the words.

- Girlfriend? I swallowed hard. - Who is your girlfriend?

“And that's exactly where you come in. He said with a hopeful smile and I understood. But I refused right away.

- No.

— Please, Jenny. — My best friend begged me. I shook my head. I couldn't do that, I wouldn't.

Adrian wanted me to pretend to be his girlfriend? This was ridiculous.

- No! I nearly screamed, my voice breaking a little as he made a sad face at me. Oh my God. It was as if it were written, I would give in to him.

— Please, Jenny. he pleaded again. “Just two weeks, I promise. Just think of it as a vacation only.

“Going on vacation has nothing to do with being my gay best friend girlfriend. I said firmly, but lowered my head when I felt like I was going to give in.

"Jennifer..." He took his time to continue and I looked at him. "You know I can't tell... I can't...

- Two weeks. That is all. I finally relented and he smiled, pulling me into a bear hug. I stood there for a while, before finally hugging him back. I would do it for him. After all, that's what best friends are for.

Chapter 2

Over the next few days I learned more about Adrian's family than I had in the last seven years. Your mother's hobbies, your father's business, everything I didn't know. Only one thing Adrian refused to tell me and that was about his brother Pierre. He said that when I found him, I would understand why.

— Jenny! Adrian exclaimed as I walked into his apartment. He was only wearing boxers and his clothes were scattered all over the place. I raised an eyebrow at him. One would think that a woman lived here and not a guy.

- Wow. I whistled as he pulled a bottle of wine from somewhere under a pile of clothes. “Are you throwing clothes away or something?

He gave me a repressing look. - Of course. I'm tidying up.

I raised my eyebrows in disbelief. — Tidying up? Is that what it's called now?

He looked at me even more seriously. - Shut up. I have to go perfect, no matter what I have to do. And when you see how impeccably my brot
