Chapter 1
_01_
Bellatrix moaned out in pain continuously, her head was banging thunderously as though she was having a migraine and to her, it feels like the world is spinning. She tried to hold on to anything to keep her balance as she almost tripped over the stairs — luckily for her, she was quick to grab its railings.
"Zach..." Her breathing was ragged as she tried calling out to her husband's name. She needed help, she couldn't hold on for too long. "Zachary, please, lend me a hand."
"What is with you this evening?" He yelled back angrily in reply, his voice was cold and far from friendly. Zach was sitting on the couch in the sitting room, almost at the foot of the stairs — just few feet away. "Can't you see that I'm busy here?"
Bellatrix swallowed in the invincible lump in her throat, she knew better than having, even a word, with Zach but at that moment — she did not care. "I need your help..." She used the last bit of strength in her to raise her voice to his hearing. "I think I'm having a migraine and my vision, it is getting blurry. Please, help me."
Zach scoffs out with irritation. "Help you...?" He uttered repulsively, his gaze still fixated on the laptop sitting on his laps. "You think I'll leave what I'm doing to help you? Why can't you just do yourself a favor by falling off that stairs? Aren't you better off dead than alive?"
Just hearing her husband say those words, her heart clenched tightly in pain. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she struggled to speak, the pain she felt was superior to the one she's feeling in head. She sighed heavily as she slumped down, sitting on the stairs and resigning to her fate — she'll just stay a little while till she feels better.
Just then, Zach's phone rang, interrupting the awkward and uncomfortable silence. He picked the call immediately, wearing a smile on his face — the type he has never flashed his wife; not even for once.
"Sure, I'll be right there." Those were the only words he said before cutting the call, shutting his laptop and pocketing his phone afterward. He stood up, and walked past his wife to his room without even sparing her a glance.
Few minutes past, and he was hurrying down the stairs, this time, he was putting on a different cloth as though he's going to work which Bellatrix finds weird. Even though that day turn out to be Friday, she overheard his conversation earlier that day, saying he'll be taking the day off.
Bellatrix was quick to grab his legs the moment he neared her, abruptly stopping him as he almost tripped. "You can't just leave me here, Zach." She voiced, her voice quivering slightly. "You should at least help me, no?"
He looked down at his wife with a cold smile. "I'll be back later, dear. I have things that are much more important to me than you are at work." He said, his voice devoid of any emotion, matching that of his eyes. "Take care of yourself."
"Zach, you should..." He cut her off abruptly by violently jerking her hands off his legs, wearing a blank expression which says a lot on his face.
Bellatrix almost hit her head on the wall as she watched him leave, feeling more vulnerable than ever. She was alone, helpless and with no one to help her. She felt the tears streaming down her cheeks and her heart sinking to the pit of her stomach.

TWO HOURS LATER
*
"Since when have you been experiencing all of these, Bella?" The old lady that was sitting across the desk before her asked, her eyes keenly focused on her. She's dressed in a white coat, indicating her profession and exuding an air of authority and elegance.
"Uh, since almost a week now..." Bella didn't hesitate to give her reply, but she appears indecisive. The look on the old lady's face made her reconstruct her response. "Five days to be precise, Ms. Thompson. It's just this early morning sickness and sometimes, my vision seems blurry as well."
The old lady, whose name turns out to be Ms. Thompson, penned down something before returning her gaze on Bellatrix. "A few tests will be run on you, Bella." She told her, earning a creased brow from the latter.
"I thought it's something minor and you will just prescribed few drugs for me, Ms. Thompson." Bellatrix finds herself arguing with the old lady, spilling out words before she could think about it. "No...?"
"Things doesn't work that way, Bella." Ms. Thompson shunned her, carefully threading her words. "Stop acting as though you are an illiterate, I can't prescribe anything unless it's confirmed. You should know better."
Bellatrix felt her cheeks heated up slightly in embarrassment, as she avoided Ms. Thompson's eyes — she should have given it a thought before voicing out. "I'm sorry, I was only..."
The old lady cut her off slowly, with a warm smile. "I understand your fear, Bella." She said, still maintaining her smile. "Trust me, everything will work out just fine." The latter could only nod her head, still failing to meet the old lady's gaze.
"I know..." Bellatrix replied in a voice that was barely above whisper but loud enough to the old lady's hearing. "I just... I was just hoping it wouldn't be that serious."
Anyone could sense the despair in her voice — and yes, she's scared of what will happen next. She's scared that Zach would hate her more; he despises sick patients, and he would never have one as his wife, this will only worsen the situation at hand.
"I understand." Ms. Thompson said, her tone softening a bit. "I know this must be a difficult time for you. But the sooner we figure out what's going on, the sooner we can get you on the road to recovery."
"I know." Bellatrix repeated, her voice still quiet but a little less tense. "I just... I'm scared of what Zachary might think of me, Ms. Thompson."
Ms. Thompson nodded, her expression understanding. "That's understandable." She said, placing her hands on Bellatrix's tensed shoulders. "Like I said earlier, girl, everything will work out just fine. Okay?"
Somehow, Bellatrix finds the old lady's words a bit comforting as her tensed shoulders relaxed. "Thanks, Ms. Thompson, there are less I can do without you." She uttered slowly, wearing a thin smile on her face — even though it was forced, she still feels like it...

*FEW DAYS LATER*
"Bellatrix, I have some news to share with you." Ms. Thompson, Bellatrix's doctor said after adjusting her glasses, looking at Bellatrix compassionately. "Your blood test results came out and they indicate that you are pregnant."
Bellatrix was shocked to hear the news but the expression on her face says otherwise and impossible to guess what she was thinking since her face was blank. "Did you run the test over again, Ms. Thompson?" She managed to voice out, her voice sounding more like a whisper.
Ms. Thompson stared at Bellatrix for a few seconds before replying. "I'm not a newbie in this field, Bella, and you know this." She said in the calmest voice she could muster.
Bellatrix nodded unconsciously and let out a remorseful sigh afterward."I'm sorry..." She responded quietly, not meeting the eyes of the doctor. "I was just... It was something I did not expect."
