It is really dark and cold. I open my eyes and looked around, realizing I am on the floor. My whole body hurts, and I can’t see or hear anything. Am I dead or alive, where am I?

“Aaah!” pain spread throughout my whole body as I sit up. I stayed like that for a bit, waiting for the pain to cease, when I heard footsteps. The closer it got the louder it was, until it stopped and I heard the creek of a door opening and light appeared, blinding me.

“Oh, your awake, it’s about time. You were out for two days straight, girly.” Someone said. When my eyes adjusted, I could see who it was that spoke. He was tall, maybe in his late thirties, early forties. He had brown hair with little grey showing and light brown eyes. When I realized what he just said, I froze blinking at him, dumbfounded.

“Two days? TWO DAYS!?” I shouted “W-where am I? Who are you?” I asked cautiously. I couldn’t believe I was unconscious for two days.

“Relax, I’ll explain, but first what’s your name and how old are you?” he said watching and waiting for me to speak.

“Uh, my name is Jae, Jae Wilson and I’m seventeen.” I was a little confused as to why he needed to know my name and age. He crossed his arms and stood there, thinking, lost in thought. I was about to ask him something when he spoke.

“Jae, huh, interesting …. my name is Aaron Mitchell; call me Mr. Aaron or Mr. Mitchell, whatever you like. Now to answer your question; you are in my house, well in my basement to be exact. I found you in my woods cut up badly, so I brought you here and bandaged you up… so answer me something, do you remember how you ended up in the woods, covered in blood?” he asked, looking straight into my eyes.

I looked down at myself and saw that my green shirt was dirty, torn, stained with blood and my arms, legs, and neck were covered in bandages. My memory was kind of fuzzy.

“Um, a-all I remember is that I was walking, but I don’t remember where. My head was hurting and I saw a group of people and when I walked past them they stopped what they were doing and looked at me. I-uh kept walking when I heard footsteps behind me. I started running and couldn’t tell where I was going. It was too dark to see and I ended up in an ally, dead end. I turned around to go back out but they were there, I could see the grins on their faces and the glints of their knives as they held it up….after that I don’t remember anything else…” I looked at Mr. Aaron to see his reaction, but there was nothing, just a blank face.

“Soooo, why am I in your basement?” I asked.

“You, my dear, are in my basement because I didn’t know if you were a psychopath.” Just when he finished what he was saying my stomach growled in hunger. I felt so embarrassed that I was sure my face turned red.

“Ahahahaha eh-heh, come on let's go make you something to eat.” Mr. Aaron was still laughing when he started to walk out of the basement, I followed right behind him. We walked up some stairs, past a door, and into (what I guess is) the living room. The house was HUGE! I walked to the middle of the living room with a look of bewilderment on my face. So many sofas, chairs, tables, and an enormous flat screen TV!!

“Y-you have a big house and TV! This. Is. Awesome!!” I said taking in every detail of the flat screen.

“Well thanks; I’m glad you think it awesome. Now are pancake, steak, and bacon ok?”

“Huh? Oh! Yeah that sounds good. Thank you.” I walked to the kitchen where Mr. Aaron was and sat down at the biggest, longest dining table I have ever seen.

I sat there thinking a little bit, while Mr. Aaron cooked. It was too quiet for me, that it felt weird, so I thought of something quick to say.

“So, how come you let me sleep on the floor? Even if I was a psychopath, I’m sure I would like a bed or something so I wouldn’t be on hard cold floor.” I saw him put my food on a plate and he sat it in front of me. He was smiling and it looked like he was trying to stifle a laugh.

“Eh, Jae, there was a bed in there; it just looks like you fell off of it, sweetie.  You didn’t see it?” I just sat there eating silently, not saying a word.

That answered his question. The food tasted delicious. I finished eating and Mr. Aaron stood up and reached to grab my plate but I stopped him.

“I got it. I’ll go wash it.” I said walking over to the sink. “So why’d you buy a big two stories house with so many rooms?” I asked while washing my plate. It was practically a mansion.

“Well there are others staying with me.” Mr. Aaron was still sitting, watching me. I dried my hand on a small towel that was on the counter.

“Oh, are the people staying here with you your family?” I asked looking at my dirty jeans and sticking my finger in a hole in my shirt.

“Well, um yes, they are my family, my grandkids, nieces and nephews and their friend stay with me to say” he said “hmp, you need a pair of fresh clothes.”

“Heh, uh yeah…but um I have no clothes” I said.

“Oh, don’t worry about that, I’ll find you something to wear for now. Follow me; I will take you to the bathroom.”

He stood up and started walking up the stairs leading to the second floor. There was a door to my left, a hallway straight ahead of me, and two doors to my right. The bathroom was in the hallway on the right side. It was huge, of course, and the walls where a light shade of blue.

“Here is your towel and I will set the clothes on the counter, ok.” He handed me the towel and left.

I shut the door and turned on the water. I took off my torn up clothes and bandages setting them on the floor to the side. I looked in the mirror and saw all of my scars from the past and the recent ones.

There are things I wish I could forget. Things I wish I never knew or saw.

I stepped into the shower and the water hit me. It was cold, yet relaxing. I washed all the dirt out of my hair and scrubbed all the dried blood off my body. I turned off the water, grabbed my towel and stepped out of the shower when all of a sudden the door opens and a boy with light brown hair and blue eyes walks in. Our eyes meet and we freeze, startled. I wrapped my towel tightly around myself as quickly as possible. Luckily he didn’t see anything or so I was hoping.

“U-uh, y-you, I-I I’m so sorry! I-I didn’t know you were in here. Uh um I’ll be going I guess…? Sorry.” He stuttered as he turned around, closing the door behind him. His face was beet red and I knew my face was too.

I locked the door to make sure it didn’t happen again. I grabbed the clothes Mr. Aaron left for me and put them on. They were guy clothes and they were a little bit baggie of course. I had black loose torn up jeans (which was the style), and a grey hoodie that was also a little bit big on me.

The sleeves were longer than my arms by two inches. I looked in the mirror and saw that I still had my contacts on. I took them out and threw them away. I don’t really need them; I only used them to hide the real color of my eyes. The contacts were brown; I didn’t really care if people think I’m a freak because my eyes are a weird color. I only wore contacts so people would stop staring and getting distracted.

I tied my hair up in a ponytail and went down to the living room. I walked in on Mr. Aaron talking to someone. He was smiling at whatever the person was telling him. Mr. Aaron looked up at me and his smile grew bigger. He said something to whomever he was talking to.

That “whoever” turned around and it happened to be the boy I just saw earlier. He stiffened when he saw me and after a few seconds his face was red again and he looked away. Mr. Aaron started laughing and beckoned me to where they were. I slowly walked over and stopped right next to Mr. Aaron. I was looking at wood floors, waiting.

“Jae this is Ethan. Ethan this is Jae.’ Mr. Aaron introduced us.

“Hi.” Ethan said nodding his head. Still looking at the floor, I nodded my head in response. It was kind of awkward silence for like a minute until Mr. Aaron said.

“Jae is the girl that was unconscious for two days. She is going to be staying here awhile.” It took me a few seconds to process the words that came out of his mouth.

“Huh? WHAT!?” I snapped my head up. I was baffled.

“Whoa!” They said in unison, surprised.

“Uh, um y-you wear contacts?” Ethan asked.

“Huh? Oh, no…” I said looking away from them.

“But your eyes were brown earlier.” Mr. Aaron said.

“Those were contacts. I wear them to hide my real color. As you can see, it’s shocking. They were old so I took them out and threw them away, and I don’t have any more contacts. Those were my last ones.” I didn’t know what else to say.

“Oh, well it’s kind of shocking because I’ve never really seen anyone with silver colored eyes, but I like them. They’re cool.” I was a little baffled by what Ethan had said. Mr. Aaron nodded his head in agreement.

“Wait, wait, did you just say that I’m going to be staying here awhile? What do you mean by that?” I waited for Mr. Aaron to answer me. What does he mean I’m staying awhile? I don’t remember saying anything about staying here, eh!?

“Yes…you’re not going to be staying? Oh you probably need to be getting back home.” Mr. Aaron said looking a bit sad.

“Uh, um… I don’t have a home...” I stood watching both of their face expressions.

“Wait you don’t have a home? What about your parents, your family?” Ethan sounded flabbergasted.

“Um…heh…well, uh” what do I say? How much should I tell them? “Uh, well it’s a long story, so if you don’t mind I’d prefer not to…um”

“Say no more, we understand, right Ethan?” Mr. Aaron looked at him.

“Yeah, we understand.” Ethan said while walking over to sit at the dining table. Right after he sat down in a chair someone came inside.

“Sebastian? What’re you doing here, why aren’t you at school in detention, young man?” Mr. Aaron crossed his arm waiting for a response.

I turned around and saw a boy. He had black hair, tall, tan (probably from the sun), and wore a black long sleeve shirt and torn black matching jeans. He also had green eyes that stared Deep into my soul, and a serious look on his face. Sebastian dropped his book-bag on the ground making a loud thud. He turned and our eyes locked. I hate when people watch me or our eyes meet, it makes me uncomfortable for some strange reason.

“I got a headache and I didn’t feel like staying there.” He said. Not once did Sebastian or I break eye contact. It was really starting to make me nervous.

“Is this the girl who was in the basement?” He didn’t show any emotion, just a blank expressionless face.

“Yeah and her name is Jae.” It was Ethan, who answered and he looked irritated.

Sebastian looked at Ethan and they seem to have been having a stare down. I could feel the tension in the house. Finally Mr. Aaron spoke, breaking the stiffness in the air.

“So Jae, are you going to be staying here?” I started thinking about what he just said. Should I stay? If so it would be for a day or two, just until I heal.

“If it’s no trouble, would it be okay if I stay for a few days?” I hope nothing happens in those few days.

“No trouble at all. I’m glad you’re staying, sweetie.” “Stay as long as you want. I’ll get someone to show you around in a few. I just got to talk to a few kids.” Mr. Aaron looked at his watch.

“It’s three so everyone should just be leaving school. Stay right here.” “Sebastian, Ethan, come with me, boys.” He looked at both of them, they nodded their heads. Mr. Aaron looked back at me, smiled, and walked off with both boys right behind him.

Ten minutes past and I started getting bored. I decided I can show myself around, plus I don’t trust anyone. That’s something I’ve learned in my life.

Chapter 2

I opened the back door and stepped outside letting the cold October breeze hit my face, my mouth fell open. I was stunned; as I walked out I saw that there were about 10 cabins more or less. They weren’t as big as Mr. Aaron’s house. As I looked on, I could see this place was in the middle of the woods and the property looked enormous.

“Damn”, I was still stunned.

I saw some cars driving on a dirt road into what looked like a parking lot. Some people were walking around, some entering into the cabins. I closed the back door and walked off the back porch.

I walked past three cabins when I heard someone yelling. I followed it and I saw that one of the cabin doors was partially open. I heard rustling noises and a few girls were yelling at someone to stop moving and to be still. I was just going to keep walking, but my curiosity took over. I walked up to the door and opened it wider. I saw clothes soaring through the air, landing everywhere and a group of girls were hu
