Chapter 1

Emily’s POV

My life was predictable: College, friends, Alex, but as the full moon approached, the weight of my deception grew heavier. Little did I know my life was about to take a drastic change.

I jolted from my sitting position when my sister Aria sprinted into the room; she had a dress on her hand, I looked away from her and my eyes met the dress, it was the same one my mother wore on the day she was about to meet her mate.

“Give it back.” I said, I don’t even want to know why she is holding the dress, I have a feeling she wanted to do something evil, something that could upset; that’s how she always felt like.

“Come on, Emily, I’m just holding it, you are not good at hiding things.” She smiled, she looked just like her mother, a pointed nose, a red-headed, with caramel skin and the attitude of a devil, that’s who she is.

“Aria, don’t.” I whispered, I tore my eyes away from her; that dress is the only reminder of my mother.

“Mom said I can wear it, and it fits me better than you.” She smiled, “don’t tell me you are going to start crying like a baby again.” She grinned.

“Just give it back, I don’t want to fight with you.”

“You can try if you'd like to; after all you are just a monster that’s why you are different, unlike any of us.” She spat, she always brought that up, I guess being different in a werewolf family is something I have always hated, the constantly reminded me of the monster I am and if I am not tamed, the destruction I would cause just like my mother.

I watched as Aria placed the dress above her chest; making sure it’s her size when I snatched it away from her and a scream escaped her lips, her eyes filled with anger.

“Don’t mess with me Aria, anything that belongs to my mother is off limits, and you know that better than anyone, you can treat me however you like but don’t ever touch my mom’s dress.” I threatened, my gray eyes filled with anger.

“Oh come on, don’t tell me you are going to start crying like a baby again, you are so dramatic, and it’s just a dress.”

“It’s not just a dress.” I snapped.

“You either give me the dress or else.” Aria smiled.

“Are you going to tell Catherine?” I asked, Catherine is her mom and my stepmother; Dad married her shortly after Mom died, I was grieving when I found out my father had remarried weeks after the death of his wife; just two weeks, he should have pretended as though he even cared.

Living with Catherine and Aria has been a nightmare; they had Aria when I was ten, it felt like I didn’t even exist anymore; she was their favorite; they did everything for her; they made sure their little princess was happy while I suffered, when I complained I get called ungrateful, and I was reminded every time that I am a monster.

At some point I stopped caring about any of them, I stopped caring that they did not bother about me, I stopped trying to impress them, I ignored Aria as much as I can, but it’s hard to when she is everywhere.

As I felt the dress been tugged out of my hold, I shook off every thought and focused on the Aria.

“I’m sure you don’t want Alex to find out your little secret, he is going to hate you like everyone else, and he will hate that you lied to him.” Aria smirked.

“You won’t do that, you won’t come between Alex and me, I will tell him when I want to.” I whispered; I was ashamed of myself for building a relationship based on lies, a relationship that would hurt both of us when it ends.

“You are a monster Aria and Alex deserves to know, you are so afraid of losing him, and you will.” She yelled, a tear slipped out of my eyes as the dress slipped out of my hold.

“Stop it Aria.” I warned.

“You are delusional if you think Alex loves you, he loves the lie you created;” Aria smiled.

“Watch your words.” I warned.

“You watch your words Emily, you should never forget the daughter of whom you are, you should be glad I am willing to wear a dress a that belonged to a murderer; someone that is hated around the city.” She smiled, she knows how much I hate when someone addresses my mom as a murderer, only I know what happened that night.

She didn’t kill anyone, she didn’t hurt them; no one believed me, no one believed she is a good woman.

“I have to try on a dress, you can stay here and continue being pathetic.” Aria smiled. “I can’t wait to see how pathetic you will look tonight at the party.”

She just took the last memory of my mother, more tears streamed down my cheek, I quickly headed back to my room; I can’t let her see me like this; she has already won by taking the dress away from me, I can’t give her the satisfaction of seeing me cry, it would only get worse, she would laugh and mock me; get her mom to do the same.

The man I thought was my father no longer cared to me, he was no longer my father, he won’t protect me even if I asked him to, he would let me suffer to make his new family happy.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard a notification coming from my phone, I wiped my tears away, my heart racing from the encounter with Aria.

As I unlocked the phone, my hands trembled when I saw a text from an unknown number.

“They know about the Oak tree. Run Emily, they are coming for you Emily.”

My heart skipped a beat; how was this? And how did they know about the oak tree, a shiver runs down my spine, the word seems to sear themselves into my mind, echoing the ominous feeling inside me.

My mate, I am going to find him tonight; tonight hold a great importance to me, I have been waiting for it all my life, it holds the secrets of who I am, the secret that will tear apart my relationship with Alex if he ever found out.
