Lori and Gabriel have an unusual start to their story . Both are about to become parents in less than ideal circumstances . He is having a child as a result of a one night stand with a woman he is less than fond of . Lori on the other hand is expecting a child as the result of an abusive and highly toxic relationship that she escaped from by the skin of her teeth . Subsequently she has decided to give the child up for adoption having found a couple able andwilling to help her out . Unfortunately disaster strikes both our protagonists . Suzy the mother of Gabriel's child dies in childbirth leaving him with a little girl to bring up on his own whilst Lori is attacked by her jealous brother and loses her baby after a nasty fall . This leaves her at odds with the couple who wanted to adopt her child and their mistreatment of her and lack of respect leave Lori depressed and angry . It is at this point that Gabriel comes along with a way to solve all their problems . They obviously have chemistry ; they are obviously mates but there are issues due to Lori's being a human ( though I was never sure about that ) ; there are mysteries surrounding them ; and they have many enemies waiting to bring them down . This should prove to be an interesting and exciting novel , I 'm looking forward to reading the second half .
