You'd think getting a can of soda from the vending machine would prove to be a simple task? Well, it is but who knew buying cans of soda also landed you as the caretaker of your school's star athlete? And who knew it would bring forth secrets about the world that you thought were just myths! Certainly not me....

Introduction

You'd think getting a can of soda from a vending machine would prove to be a simple task? Well, it is but who knew buying cans of soda also landed you as the caretaker of your school's star athlete? And who knew it would bring forth secrets about the world that you thought were just myths! Certainly not me....

Earlier this day

I danced in front of my mirror which was attached to my wardrobe door as my fav song played in the background.

I ran the comb I was holding through my hair as I sang along the song and the rest was filled with powerful choreography.

"SKY ENOUGH OF THAT! YOU'RE DOING MY HEAD IN!" I heard my father scream from downstairs, but I ignored him. Our walls were like paper thin, you can literally hear people breathing through these walls. Me being the unlucky b*tch have heard a lot worse than breathing though since my parent's room is right beside mine. Whoever made this home was a f*ck*ng nutcase.

I quickly put on a t-shirt and a pair of ripped, acid wash denim jeans trying to forget the sh*t I just thought of because of my dad's screaming. I bobbed my head to the beat a couple of times before I picked up my mascara from my dresser which was right next to my cupboard and started putting it on.

I was almost done when the door to my room was slammed open by my dad. He was red in the face, as always, and headed straight towards my Bluetooth speaker which I had connected to my phone.

He quickly turned it off and turned to me like every single morning.

"Do you have to make me come up here every d*mn morning? Why do you need to listen to such loud music all the time?!?" He asked me as he threw his arms all around him.

"Because it's soothing daddy" I told him as I went up to him and gave him a quick kiss on his cheek.

"Darling, I need my peace in the morning and there's no peace about this rock and roll music" My dad said as he sighed. My dad could hardly get mad at me, I was his only kid so how could he?

"It's not rock and roll daddy, it's pop music! And it is the definition of peace. Everything about their soulful voices scream peace" I reminded him for the 100th time as I walked up to my desk and picked up my bag which was on the chair.

"Darling just come down for breakfast and do not turn that on again." He said as he gave up on talking to me and went back downstairs.

I picked up a handful of chewing gum from a bowl I keep on my nightstand and ran out of my room and down the stairs. I had a serious pen-tip chewing problem and to avoid getting a mouth full of ink, I chewed on gum instead. It also made my jaw really defined so it's a win-win.

"SLOWLY SKY!" My dad screamed once again as he does every morning. Our house was pretty decent given that we weren't all that well off. It was a two-story house with a pretty patio up front and a wooden swing where you could sit and read. As you entered through the main door, you had the living room to your left and the kitchen to the right, across the living room. Beyond the kitchen was the laundry room and a tiny bathroom and then the back door which led to a little garden area out back. The dining room was just behind the living room. The stairs leading to the second story was a good distance away from the front door, right in the middle making two different pathways leading to the right and left corridors. We had a master bedroom, which my parents used, my bedroom and then a guest bedroom. Only my parent's room had an attached bathroom, which means I have to run across my parent's room and the guest bedroom, naked in only my bath towel everyday. The only flaw was these d*mn paper thin walls!!

I smelled the pancakes as I stepped inside the kitchen. My mother was cooking away at the stove and my dad was using the ancient device he bought a few days back to squeeze some fresh orange juice on her right.

"Morning family" I said and went up to my mum and kissed her on the cheek.

"Do you have to be so loud every morning Skylar? You always give your father such a hard time" My mum says. I just hmmed at her as I was too busy enjoying the sight of my dad struggling with the device which to be honest could be mistaken for a freaking guillotine.

When I didn't respond to my mum, she turned around to look at me but saw me laughing silently at my dad so turned towards him instead.

"I told you to get a proper juicer but no! No one listens to me in this house! Now look at you standing there and struggling" My mum rubbed salt in my dad's already burning wounds.

"I thought it would be cool baby" My dad said and I cringed at the fact that he still calls my mum baby even though they're both like 50.

"Cool? Look at the state of my kitchen! You have created such a huge mess! There's juice and pulp all over my counter! You are infuriating Jerry" My mum said as she furiously pointed at all the different places my dad had spilled juice and bits of oranges.

"OOOO daddy you are in trouble, she called you Jerry!" I laughed as I walked towards the fridge to get something to eat since it looked like breakfast wasn't going to be ready anytime soon.

"You young lady! Stop fiddling around the refrigerator. I did not wake up at 7 today to prepare breakfast just so you could have something raw from the refrigerator!" My mum pointed the wooden spatula at me next.

"Hey your husband made you mad, take it out on him!" I said as I moved out of the hitting range of the spatula.

"Sky your mother is right, listen to her" My dad said as he quickly tried to clean the mess he made...glad that mum was focused on me now.

"Look mum he's trying to hide evidence from you! Hit him!" I said as I point at my dad who tsked at me but I stood my ground and jutted my chin at him.

"You both drive me crazy!" My mum said as she furiously flipped a pancake. Poor pancake....

"Sit down, this instant! If I see any of you standing and loitering around my house, I will have at you with anything I can get my hands on!" My mum screamed and my dad and I quickly scrambled to the part of the counter that was not sticky and sat our butts down on the counter stools.

"This is so your fault" I angry-whispered at my dad and bumped his shoulder with mine.

"I was doing fine until you came down missy" he replied in the same tone and bumped my shoulder back.

"Both of you shut your holes! It's like I'm raising two toddlers" My mum said as she got tired of our yapping.

You might be thinking this is weird but this how my dad and I are. We fight like we're both 18, we gossip, we have girls night and everybody is jealous of our bond. My mother is the only mature person in our house...I mean my dad is pretty grown up when it comes serious things like his job but he's a chill guy otherwise.

Oh and by the way, I'm Skylar Giliard, daughter of Jerry Kline and Gweneth Giliard. I'm 18, in my senior year of highschool. A solid 5'2.5 with black hair and brown eyes.

My dad, Jerry Kline, is a software engineer. My mum and dad met in college when my dad was studying in England and fell in love. My mum got pregnant in her final year, got married to my dad and came back to America with him.

My dad was ecstatic that my mum was pregnant, my mum obviously not so much but she still loves me a lot. She was studying to be an archeologist but never liked it. My grandmother forced her to, mum always wanted to have a family but she never wanted one so fast but she was still glad.

My parents moved into my dad's family home after my American grandparents died in a car accident and we've lived here ever since. That was 19 years ago...

My parents tried to have more kids but turned out there was something wrong with my dad and apparently I was the best swimmer he had period! So just like that I was destined to be an only child which I didn't mind cause I have so many friends here to keep me busy.

I go to Bloomwood East high, the only school in our town but it's pretty good. The teachers are cool, the students are...well some of them are fine. We have a good music and sports program, but the art department sucks butt which sucks for me cause that's the only extra curricular I'm good at.

Today we have a match with Glendale High. Our school is known for it's volleyball team which is why our school focuses soooo much on it and spends like half of its funding on volleyball.

But the team is good only because of one guy. Our middle blocker, Atlas Burnam.

The other guys are okay but Atlas is the star of our school. I sometimes think if our principal could, he'd marry Atlas...that dude loves that boy so much.

Well to be honest not only the principal but everybody loves Atlas Burnam! It's like he's a king for them! I have actually seen people bow to him! Bow!

I never really was into sports though so I never got into the 'six pack, rock hard bod Atlas Burnam club' I s*ck*d at gym, could hardly run two laps in a row without dying. So I was never in with the athletic kids and that's saying something since I'm in with all the kids in our school.

Today was supposed to be a normal day. I was supposed to head to the school's indoor volleyball court, watch the match with my friends. Hang out in some cafe after the match and then head back home.

But it turned into so much more...just because of a can of soda.

Pop-ing by his side

"I'm leaving daddy" I screamed as I went zooming out the front door. My dad said something after me but I wasn't able to hear it. I ran at full speed to the bus stop which was a couple of houses down mine. I could see the bus standing at the bus stop from my front door.

I heard the Bus engine start once again as the driver prepared to take off.

"WAIT!!!!" I screamed after the bus. I pounded on its side as I ran up to the door. The driver opened the door for me, shaking his head.

"Late again Miss Skylar?" He asked and I just smiled sheepishly. I quickly took an empty seat right at the front. There were only two other kids on the bus. Most of the kids had cars but I was too afraid to drive and my daddy was afraid as well since my grandparents...but taking the bus was fine with me.

Even though it was technically a school holiday today since we had a match at school, the buses were still running thanks to our principal who wanted the s
