Chapter 1

ISABELLA’S POV

To the members of the pack: I, Darius Foster of the Shadowvale Pack, make it known that my fated mate Elara will be joining us. I expect that you will give both Elara and Luna Isabella the same respect going forward.

A moment of stillness lingered in the air and then the hallburst into rapturous cheers.

"Congratulations Alpha Darius! Long live the Shadowvale Pack!"

"Congratulations!”

I gazed dully at the two bodies nestled close together in the middle of the hallway, numbness flooding over me, as I listened to every member of the pack offer their full congratulations to them.

My head was blank and at that point I didn’t even have the language to say no.

My mate Darius had revealed in front of all our pack members on our third wedding anniversary that he had found his fated mate.

There was just one small problem: his fated mate was another woman.

To add insult to injury, at least it wasn’t like they were horrified by the news, they took it in stride and blessing came fast and furious.

I was overwhelmed by rage and humiliation as my wolf Nova growled in my mind.

“Isabella… what the f*ck is going on?!” she seethed, the hairs on the back of her neck rising as she readied herself to tear this she-wolf’s throat out.

“Nova please,” I said, still fighting with her, my own anger escalating as I tried to keep hers at bay and keep her from shifting.

As Luna of the Shadowvale Pack and daughter of the Alpha of the Steelridge Pack, I didn’t have the luxury of breaking down in front of all these people, not on this particular night..."

“Stop trying to control yourself, Isabella. What’s wrong with you? “I don’t care what people think, I want to rip them to shreds!! Both of them! Those smug little shits, just look at them!” Nova was ranting, practically foaming at the mouth as she wouldn’t be still.

"How could he do this to us?! We've been married for three years and I've run his affairs like he deserves and always kept my responsibility as Luna…"

It was all I could do to keep up the pretense of calm. I was absolutely furious at this surprise disclosure.

“Don’t just sit there like a coward, Isabella! Go and ask him what the hell he thinks he’s really doing! Right now!” Nova was screaming at me from her fury.

My body seemed to be unwilling to obey as I painfully climbed legs that felt like jelly, my frozen hands slowly moving up as I pulled my skirt up as smoothly as I could and started towards Darius’s side.

I fought and I just took everything I had in me not to cry because it was anger and betrayal and it wanted to come down.

The countless gazes upon me as I approached were a continual call to duty I needed to my role as their Luna, and it helped me maintain my composure as I walked with a false sense of confidence.

I kept Nova under control as I strolled, yet

I'm sure her rage shone out of my eyes for anyone who looked hard enough.

I bent over as I reached him, a tight smile on my face as I spoke softly to him, in the murmur of the quiet room, hoping no one could overhear us.

"Darius, what the hell are you doing? Do you really want to do this on our wedding anniversary Couldn’t this wait?"

"Isabella, I’m sorry. I love you, but Elara ... she’s my fated mate after all… I can’t deny her…” Darius said weakly as he looked up at me with guilt written all over his face.

He couldn't even bring himself to the courtesy of release that woman though he clinged to her as if she was made of feather or the wind

What a disgusting, cheating hypocrite. There was no pleasant term for the woman seated next to him who was grinning up at me smugly, standing there.

This had always been supposed to be the biggest roadblock in our relationship. We fell in love when we were 16 and we promised each other that we would be forever.

Like I said, we’d prayed hard that the moon goddess would make us each other’s fated mates when we turned 18 and took our wolf forms, but, to our great regret and disappointment, she didn’t.

Darius had already told me that in the past with passion: "Isabella, I love you. We are not fated mates but no other would be good enough in my pack, as they are in any other pack, you are the only person they could ever accept as Luna! I heaved along with the words No one else will ever, I swear to God!".

He was the man that had completely chosen me and given me the world so now was holding another girl tightly in his arms.

A vision of the past few years flickered through my mind, even as they made me boil with anger and my makeup smear: There I was, shaking at what I wanted to do and my tears unfalling.

I grasped my skirt with both hands as I fought to dispel the distraction from the pain of my shattering heart and commanded myself not to kneel in grief, lest she see my tears as they betray me.

I didn’t want to give either of them the pleasure of it.

“Isabella, my love, you know what finding a fated mate means for an Alpha. Elara, she’s just a poor girl whose pack has recently been decimated, I can’t just abandon her. If I turn her down, she won’t have a single place to go.” Darius begged unrepentantly.

He realized I hadn’t said a word in what felt like forever but he made sure to reach out to me and grab my hand like he normally did with pity and love in his eyes and looking blatantly at Elara.

“Yeah, I know what being a fated mate is! But I’m warning you now Darius, watch the hell out or remember who your Luna is!” I hissed angrily under my breath, so no one but the three of us could hear, as I shrugged off his hand and looked unabashedly into Darius’s eyes.

“I don’t know what to do, Isabella, my love, the bond is nothing like the bond, you know how the bond is, all the time wishing that it was real between us so that we feel that irresistible pull… since the first time I looked into Elara’s eyes, my wolf has been going mad, he’s only content when she’s at his side. There Is Nothing Like knowing and I know that as a True Mate Amplifies not only the strength but the power of an Alpha. Isabella, forgive me, I can’t send her away…” He begged as he at last released the girl in his arms and reached out to take me in his arms as he breathed into my ear, “Elara is a good girl; she can be of assistance to you with pack matters.”

I looked at Elara, who was big eyed and small.

She wasn't Shyly looking at me while clutching to Darius's clothing tightly, looking exactly like the pitiful girl which Darius made me believe that she was.

I emitted a chilly snort at them both and Elara gave as if she was taken aback before swiftly grasping a glass of red wine from a nearby table and cautiously handing it to me.

“ Honourable Luna, allow me live at your side. I'm not going to spoil your feast, I promise! Darius has taken pity on me and saved me from the depths with his heart and it was not my intention to drive such a wedge between you both!"

ELara's beautiful face was so full of anxiety that when she looked at me with teary eyes, I could swear she was literally pleading with me.

“You wanna hear what I think?” I said as I looked down on her with disdain.

Elara was surprised and frozen with the cup of wine in her hand, not knowing what to do next.

Darius slid in front of her, his body protectively guarding her before he spoke.

“Isabella, you have to calm down.”

“You are the one who needs to calm down!” I hissed angrily, “You’re not happy with your mate chosen and now you want to bring another woman into our home? Fated or not Darius, you had a promise to keep..."

As if my argument with Darius was on the verge of making Elara panic, this girl, Elara, suddenly went down on her knees in front of me with tears and a glass of red wine in her hand and said to me,"I beg you, Luna! I won't get involved in anything, All I want is a place to call home! Do some laundry, cook for you and help with your life! Just let me stay as long as you need to!

“Oh this girl is so pitiful.” A choked voice was heard from some among the gathered pack members, closely followed by another.

“Luna Isabella really shouldn't be so hard on her... At least she is Alpha Darius's fated mate, she has a reason to be here."

Some of the murmurs that I could hear were twisted enough to be like knives lacerating my heart. I turned to Darius to look at him but I saw that he was already looking at Elara with gentle love in his eyes.

I closed my eyes and then I was overcome with bewilderment. A love story that had blossomed and grown for six years since we were in high school was now nothing but a joke.

“Screw these assholes! F*ck these arseholes!” Nova growled slowly in between fighting for control, wanting desperately to rush out and tear the couple on our porch apart.

But I couldn’t let her do that.

" It's not time for anger yet At least for now I am still the Luna of this Pack.” I replied calmly, making her calm down.

“I don’t agree with you at all.” You should be dealing with this now publicly! “Nova retorted sullenly as she slunk to the back of my mind.

" After the banquet finishes, we will deal with those two properly I won’t do this in such a long winded way in front of so many people, Nova.”

I took a deep breath and grabbed Elara's wine glass before drinking it all in one gulp. Then I reached forward, grabbing her tightly around the arm and pulling her upright forcing her to stand. With a disdainful sneer I pushed her towards Darius.

" Darius, my admiration and love for you stops here. You have made your choice and now, I have made mine. When the banquet is over, we’ll settle this properly.” I stated flatly.

Darius parted his lips as if he wanted to say something else but I had no more ears for him.

Instead I sat on the chair the Luna usually sat on and waited dutifully for Nova to come back after she had caught her breath.

“Nova, you have to come.” I escorted her towards the forest edge. That was our go-to spot to unwind when life got too frantic and we had lost count of the hours spent sprinting and roaming in the dappled depths of giant trees.

But something strange was happening.

I could call her all I want. She wasn't responding.”

I got no reply from her, for the first time since we were 18 and had found one another. I was definitely uneasy about this and was on the point of using the mind link of the pack to ask the private doctor of the Pack what was going on when unexpectedly, I felt as if my heart was exploding, the intense misery was radiating outwards along my arms and legs, my body was twisting in pain before I collapsed to the earth.

What the hell is going on with me?

“Great Luna, did you enjoy the wine earlier?” A derisive tone came from somewhere above me.

I struggled on the ground, my body refusing to respond to my attempts to move as I tried desperately to lift my head, but all I could see was the solitary figure of a petite woman.

"F*ck!!!!, Elara!”

Chapter 2

Isabella's POV

"Yes, Luna, it's me," Elara taunted as a smug grin steadily grew on her face.

She was so different from the helpless look she gave when she was nothing but a needy mother at the banquet, now when she peered down at me, her eyes glittered with pure hatred.

Her hair wasn’t its pretty chestnut color anymore, but right now it had switched to an unexplained brash red.

F*ck! Elara really is a witch?! The red wine! She poisoned me with the red wine.

"What are you doing? What do you want from me?" I murmured hoarsely as I struggled to get to Nova.

Apparently, the toxin hadn’t spared her, either, as she too seemed impervious to my pleas.

As much as I hated to say it, there wasn’t anything I could do. I was completely at Elara's mercy.

"Pathetic Luna, never would have thought something like this would befall you, right?”

Elara scoffed, drawing a dagger from
