Annotation

“I, Thomas Bennett, reject Sophie Turner as my mate.” The bond shattered. Pain exploded through my chest like someone had ripped out my heart with bare hands. My knees buckled, and I hit the ground hard. Someone screamed—maybe me, maybe my wolf, maybe both. “I choose Lily Adams as my true mate.” The pack's shock was palpable. Choosing a new mate minutes after rejection? Even Alpha Jensen looked uncomfortable. “The Moon Goddess blessed your bond with Sophie,” one of the pack elders spoke up. “To reject it is—” “The Goddess's will is mysterious,” Tom cut in smoothly. “Perhaps she showed me Sophie first so I would recognize my true mate when I found her.” I wanted to vomit. How many times had he fed me those same sweet lines? Lily stepped forward, radiant in a white dress. I suddenly remembered helping her pick it out last week. Had she bought it for this moment? “I accept Thomas Bennett as my mate,” she said clearly. “And I accept the position of Luna of the Silver Moon Pack.” Rejected by her destined mate and betrayed by her pack, Luna warrior Sophie finds herself drowning her sorrows at a human bar. That's where she meets the mysterious Christian Knight—a powerful Alpha from a rival pack. Little does she know, he's not just any Alpha—he's her second-chance mate and her new boss at the pack's front company, Knight Industries.

Review after the novel completion

This was a great read, until it wasn’t. Lots of twists & turns. Sophie was strong, smart & fairly well developed. However, gave it 3 stars for a couple reasons. Several plot lines were left open. Sophie’s bloodline, where she came from, why people feared her. Dangled throughout but never closed. Random things inserted with no development like Marcus getting engaged. Friendships established but not continued like Jessica. Sophie’s involvement in the company just disappears. During the final fight with psycho ex, they knew it was coming were prepared for it but left Sophie unguarded & doing her regular routine and she seemed genuinely surprised & acted like she was incapable of taking care of herself. But the absolute most egregious thing was that for 95% of the book Sophie is a wolf. Has her wolf, her wolf reacts to things, she fights as a wolf. Then all of a sudden she gets pregnant & is apparently now human. Lots of references to her being human. Human pregnancy, hybrid baby. Plays in the snow & is cold because she’s human. It took away from the incredibly strong wolf, capable leader and Luna that the author had developed her into. Once human Sophie was depicted as weak, soft, vulnerable and afraid of everything. It seems it was used to add additional plot lines for the council and text threat that comes in. But there was no point. The council meeting could have expanded on traditional issues. The text threat was undeveloped. Zero need or reason to take her from wolf to human. Instead of wrapping it up with a lovely ending where everyone lived happily ever after the author destroyed the entire plot line and character development by making Sophie appear weak, scared & nothing like the fighter she was written as. Absolutely maddening.
