Chapter 1
A smile rose up my face, the soft breeze lingered against my skin when I looked up at the green grass and my eyes met my son Andre; Andre smiled back at me, he waved at me with his little hand and I waved back.
“Mommy come let’s play.” Andre yelled from across the park, my smile widened.
“You have school Andre, the bus will be here any minute.” I resorted;
He convinced me to let him play at the park before he leaves for school, my eyes glanced at my watch, I still have three minutes before the bus gets here, I wish I could drive him to school, he has always wanted me to do that, it’s something I couldn’t, when he grows up, I know one day he would understand.
I watched as he made his way toward me with a smile on his face; I took his hand in mind and led him toward the house, just like I had expected the bus came in time.
“Be good for me Andre.” I smiled before waving him goodbye, I watched as he made his way into the bus, his eyes never let mine until the bus disappeared.
Andre is my life, everything I have done, everything I am about to do is solely for him, getting pregnant at the age of nineteen was something I never expected, the first day I heard his heartbeat, I knew I would love this little bean, regardless of which form he comes in, I had Andre shortly after my twentieth birthday.
It has just been Andre and me ever since, he is three years old, he turned three five months ago, he is smart, it’s a good thing it has my resemblance and not his father’s, everyday I would wish he would never have any of his father’s traits.
I pushed back all my thoughts and made my way to the bakery I worked at, it is five blocks away from my home, I started working there after Andre turned one, after the lady who owned it died, I took over the place, and I was able to buy the place, the beautiful aroma filled my nostrils when I walked into the building.
“Welcome Mia.” My best friend and manager smiled; he had a huge grin on his face. “You are glowing.”
“It’s the weather, Ron,” I chuckled; he rolled his eyes playfully at me.
I made my way to my office, when my eyes caught someone walking into the bakery, my breath hitches when I thought it was him, I stopped in my tracks, my fingers fiddled against each other when I averted my eyes away from the man, a breath escaped my lips before I made my way closer to the man, I stopped in my tracks when I realized it was someone else.
A breath escaped my lips,” he is not coming for you Mia, it’s being years, he would never find you,” I mumbled those words against my breath.
I gulped down a glass of water once I got to my office, I am glad that Ron did not see that, he would have asked a lot of questions, I need to get my emotions together, I have to leave the past behind, no one would come for me.
My mind was brought back to reality when I glanced at the picture of Andre and me, I took this picture the first day we moved into the city, I wanted this to be different for us and it has been different. I am happier and so I Andre.
I heard a knock coming from my door; I mumbled a low ‘come in’ before Ron walked in,
“You don’t look happy.” I said to Ron.
“You have a visitor.” He said, and a hiss escaped my lips.
“Can you tell him I am not here?” I resorted.
”He saw you walk in, and you know Samuel is persistent,” Ron said.
“Fine, let him in.” I mumbled and he nodded before leaving.
I rested back on my leather chair when the familiar man walked into the room, Samuel works at one of the high-profile offices, when the last owner died, Samuel wanted to buy the building, but I ended up buying it before he did and every Tuesday morning he would walk in here with thousand of dollars, he would always try to convince me to sell the place to him and my answer would always be the same.
Not only that, but I did not like Samuel, he is a pervert, his eyes would always linger on my body, he would make sexual remarks that always irritated me, he always knew how to get in my nerves.
“Are you here to try to buy me off again?” I asked Samuel, he sat on the chair opposite mine, with a briefcase on the table, when he opened it, thousand of dollars were arranged in the briefcase.
“You won’t have to work for a lifetime, and that kid of yours would live a comfortable life.” Samuel persuaded.
“I’m not selling the place, and if you don’t leave, I would be sending the cops with a restraining order against you.” I mumbled, I can’t deal with this right now.
“I would throw in a house and a car, plus with money.” Samuel said, I never understood why he desperately wanted this building, why he needed to be to buy this place and even if I had found out, I would never sell this place to him, I made a promise to the last owner and I intend to fulfill it.
“Are you done, Samuel, now leave before I get the cops.” I mumbled, I stood up making my way to the other side of the room; I noticed his eyes lingering on my skirt, a hiss escaped my lips.
“How about I change your mind?” He smiled pervertedly, before he made his way toward me, a wave of disgust washed over me when I felt his hand on my shoulder, I pushed him away from him harshly.
“You have been causing a lot of troubles Mia, just sell the place, I could be a good father to Andre if you give me a chance.” He smiled.
“Don’t mention my son.” I gritted through my teeth, I glared at him.
Don’t do it, Mia, my subconscious said.
When Samuel tried to touch me again, I kicked him in his crotch before I pushed his head against the wall, I banged his head, his screams filled my ears, all I could see was red before his body fell to the ground.
“Samuel.” I whispered, I crouched down when I realized he is no longer breathing.
What did I just do?
Chapter 2
Mia’s POV
My eyes swelled up with tears, a wave of adrenaline flowing through my veins, my heart pounding against my rip cage, I filled with the edge of my skirt, I looked back at the sight in front of him, he begged me to stop, I was filled with so much anger I never paid attention to when Samuel told me to stop, when he begged me to let him go. I should have never let my anger get the best of me.
I tried so hard to hide the monster in me and yet I failed.
“Samuel, I’m sorry.” I whispered, I tried touching his face, but it was covered in blood, I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard a loud knock coming from my door.
“Mia, we heard screaming.” Ron yelled from the other side of the door, I wiped my tears before I made my way toward the door. “Can you open up?” He asked.
“I was watching a movie.” I resorted, that was the worst lie I have ever told.
“With Samuel, I thought you hated him.” Ron said, he sounded confused.
“He came to a
