Chapter 1

Sometimes in life it only takes something as small as a phone call or text message to change the way you have set out your life to fall.

Life just has its own way of making you think you have everything set at the right place until you get to the point of re-evaluating your steps.

As a matter of fact Aryn thought she had made her life peaceful and calm and even more independent than she could ever think of until….

Her past came back knocking harder than she could have ever imagined. It dared her even more to evaluate herself and for her to confront her feelings, the feelings she had buried inside of her a very long time ago.

“Change of plans I don’t want you paying for me to go on a cruiser anymore for my birthday, I want you home so we can celebrate my eightieth birthday”

Aryn read that message at least what she could call a number of ten times as she drove back home and even now as she took off the pokellos she had worn for one of the jobs she had been given.

She knew what her grandmother was doing, she wanted her back home. It had been years she had gone back home even for a Christmas holiday she always just used to send money back home and gifts.

Grandma had never been happy about this but Aryn always gave excuses one which she always used was the fact that she was working with the celebrities who always wanted her around when her workers where inputting what she had chosen for their homes.

She was already feeling the bend of a headache hitting her harder than she thought she could handle.

It was heading for a migraine, one of the things she hated when she just wanted to come back home and rest.

Getting home after a long day and paddling on the heels just to get hit with this she knew she had to play her cards well, she didn’t want to vent to her grandma and then enter her grandmothers’ bad books as they used to call it when they grew.

Sighing she gave her grandmother a call hoping she could be able to use one of those her excuses.

“Hello, baby girl,” she answers after the first ring.

“What do you mean you don’t want to go on a yacht trip, I was already going to pay before you got to me while at work and I halted payment” she said hoping she wasn’t shouting at her grandmother.

“Well I want to throw a birthday party for myself” she said.

“What do you mean you want to throw a birthday party for yourself Grams?” she asked this time furrowing her brows as though she was in front of her grandmother.

“It means I am not getting any younger, and that I deserve to have my beloved ones with me I just might die soon you know”.

Hearing of death just made Aryn even more scared maybe this woman was about dying and she was just in the mood to have her family around especially her granddaughter.

“But we had to have fun in the town on a yacht, remember? You have always talked about it right and wanted to go on a yacht right” she said trying to make her grandma excited as she was before this day.

“We would go another time” she said as if it was that simple to book a yacht just when you want it.

“It was a miracle I could get at least five days off work just so your birthday yachting would be spectacular grandma” she said.

“But you didn’t invite Chad and I wanted him to be in the party” she said.

“But Grandma, he has family and might even be focused with work” Aryn said as she in the deepest of her mind felt that as she focused herself on work everyone lived that way.

“Not everyone focuses their life on work like you do Aryn and each birthday you haven’t been around Chad has been around and has always made sure we felt good, and also I want you to spend Christmas with us this time around and no ‘no’s’ from you will be taken” her grandmother said causing her to almost dip her leg even more deeper into the floor if possible.

“But grandma” she began to complain, looking for a way yet again to halt this Christmas new her grandmother wanted to bring upon her but Grandma was ready with her answers.

“I never ask for anything Aryn, just this once and you want to refuse that from me?” sighing Aryn chuckled because this woman was her weakness and for sure she knew how to make the little lady know she had to make that journey down home to their small Jones town business even if she didn’t want to go.

“You asked me to get you a new baking pan last week Nana, that what you wanted for your birthday gift before the yacht arrangement”

“Yea right but how cool would that be when all the ladies at my church would not be there in this old woman’s birthday? Plus they could join me and have a cake baking session when we have our evenings, let’s use the time God has given to us to make sure that we enjoy my dear Aryn” she said and she could visually in her mind see her grandmother make those mischievous eyes when she succeeded in getting her way at something.

Her grandmother was the best person she knew and like she said she was her weakness and she could hardly ever say no to her when it came with phone calls. Text messages she could say she didn’t read but when it got to calls she could only imagine her facial expressions when speaking with her.

She knew that coming home was not in her plans not even for Christmas her Christmas days where always focused on the office table, laptop open, a pen and paper set aside as she drew what she could implant into people’s homes because she wanted to stay at the top chart of being New York’s best interior designer and also she was running away.

She was running away from what had happened the night of her birthday that night when she had fallen for her best friend but had not told him and when they were alone he had bent and given her a kiss, her first kiss.

A kiss she later regretted and insulted him so bad because she thought that was going to spoil their friendship.

Chad had come by a few times to apologize about what he had done but she had refused to see him because somehow she had longed for that kiss and being a teenager who just graduated she decided to move out of Jones, she could be his friend from afar even if they didn’t talk to each other at all.

She had been avoiding the village for ten freaking years, hoping she could keep it for yet another ten years or more by then she would have been thirty nine years old.

“Let’s try to keep you alive Nana” she said in a sassy tone.

“So everything is set, you travel next week take like a month or two off because after my birthday you will have to stay till Christmas, the fridge is full of healthy food should in case you are watching our weight, veggies and low carb foods are here even gluten free, it is full of good food not what you buy and eat immediately, I miss you Aryn” she finally said and Aryn knew from then that she had to make this journey and she had to arrange herself for this Christmas holiday.

It could be fun.

“Well I saw Chad today, maybe I could tell him you are coming” her grandma said.

“There we go, Grandma you don’t have to tell me anything about him come on”

“Well I was just saying” her words came out a little strained and Aryn groaned even thing twice about her choice of going down.

“We haven’t spoken for ten years and I don’t think we would make a good pair this Christmas if I come back” she explained hoping that could help.

“I am sorry Aryn” she said as she apologized making her know she had indeed shouted at her grandmother and she was guilted by that.

Chad was still someone who was still able to affect her even to the knees not in a bad way and she didn’t like that she had had on and off relationships none which she stayed more than two months till she finally just had a friends with benefits who had finally fallen in love with someone else and had gotten married two months back.

Chad was her best friend, her first kiss and her first everything. By everything this goes back to say that night she had given him her virginity and with that she had to go far.

How silly could she be? She felt cheap and couldn’t face him.

“I can’t say no to you so ill take a flight down by next week grandma I have to assigned things to my assistant, I wouldn’t want to miss your eightieth birthday”. At least this time she was not giving an excuse of having a lot of work so that warmth her grandmother’s heart.

“I will be waiting for you my dear, ill cook your favorite”

“Thank you grandma” the call ended and she now had to make up her mind because for sure she was going to see Chad and they just might have that talk she had been running away from since she was nineteen.

Chapter 2

“I can’t believe you are traveling” Aryn hears assistant Ian yell in surprise. It definitely was a surprising thing because she always allowed her workers a day or two time to go for a day for themselves but she hardly ever did for herself so for Ian to hear her say she was going for a trip to the one place she had always not wanted to go to just made him know that things were changing and he was praying she was going to be happy after this trip, a prayer for love for his boss.

He had arrived at her place an hour ago but was on the phone with a client trying his best to make the client know he was going to handle the décor and not Aryn because she a family crisis she had to attend to..

It was difficult as they won’t let it be, they just wanted Aryn because whatever she placed her hand on just made the place homely.

Words she loved hearing.

“Uh! Yeah! My Grandma called she cancelled the yacht and she wants to have a birthday party with her new baking pan she a
