Annotation

Rachel Anderson was a shy but beautiful girl, raised by her grandparents and an overprotective older brother. She wanted to be independent, so she decides to look for a job and gets it because of her qualifications and excellent references. But her direct boss, Patrick Hamilton, the CEO of Hamilton's Corp. a huge financial corporation, is a hard and bitter man, who hates women in general, but especially pretty ones whom he never hires. His father, Randall Hamilton, also a tough old man with high moral and family principles, imposes an inviolable condition on him before he can inherit the vast family empire: He must marry and have an heir within a year. Failure to do so would mean that seventy-five percent of his fortune would go to his mother, who preferred his pedantic and self-centred cousin, Derek Coleman, who is also a bad person, but is married with two children, and would certainly be the new CEO of the companies. Then in the midst of his predicament he gets an idea: to propose to his shy, intelligent assistant, who has secretly fallen in love with him, even though he belittles her and treats her badly like all women, at least at first. But the girl turns out to have an outstanding brain and climbs the corporate ladder on her own merit, and perhaps also in Patrick Hamilton's hardened heart.

CHAPTER 1: I NEED AN ASSISTANT!

Patrick Hamilton entered the Human Resources office in a flurry, slamming the door shut with a loud bang. The secretary who was right next to the entrance gasped with fright and looked with a terrified face at the CEO of the companies who had a very unfriendly look on his face. “Is Roberts here? “He asked the secretary with an authoritative tone, you could tell he was in a very bad mood. “Y-yes, sir..." said the poor girl hesitantly, "I-is in his office. Without even answering Patrick went to the door at the far end of the elegant room at a brisk pace, yanked the door open and as he closed the door he flinched from how hard he had slammed it shut. Muffled shouts were then heard through the panels separating the office of the head of Human Resources from the rest of the offices. Two secretaries and a young assistant who were there looked at each other expectantly. It was not at all strange to them that Patrick Hamilton was in a bad mood, that seemed to be his natural state, nobody liked to cross his path, he seldom said hello or answered greetings and the people around him wondered: what had made a man who was not even thirty”five years old, so bitter? Poor Mr. Roberts, manager of the Human Resources department, didn't know either, the only thing he knew at that moment was that Patrick Hamilton was angry with him and that he had to find a way to explain himself without being fired that very morning. “I'm very sorry, Mr. Hamilton," said the man, completely disturbed by the imposing presence of his boss, "but we haven't been able to find anyone who meets all the requirements you asked for. Patrick inhaled deeply to try to control himself, he knew he had been quite demanding when it came to requesting a personal assistant to work in the office next to his. But could it be possible that there wasn't a single soul in New York that met those requirements or in the entire United States, perhaps? He tried to calm himself by taking several breaths, but the work was piling up and the secretaries he had in the office were not capable of resolving some matters that just needed some common sense. That was why he had asked for someone, preferably a man or an older woman, who had a cumlaude in his business administration studies, or at least a specialization, a master's degree or a doctorate, or at least someone with an intelligence that would not need him to repeat things a hundred times! It was infuriating how little academic or intelligence level the employees he had in his office had. He needed someone to help him and not a human burden that he had to teach the same things over and over again. Patrick took one more breath before speaking, he really knew that the level of people was not very good these days, so he tried not to blame Mr. Roberts so much, who was shaking like a flan in those moments, but he didn't want to exempt him from all the blame either, he had to demand it from him. “I can understand that," he said without softening his tone of voice or relaxing his posture, "but I don't want to keep waiting indefinitely, do you understand me, Roberts? These last words were spoken through gritted teeth, and sounded quite threatening. “Yes, I understand, sir," stammered the poor man, "I'll do my best, but the requirements you ask for... A vein began to throb threateningly in Patrick's temple, it bothered him greatly that they couldn't be more efficient. “Then forget the d*mn requirements and get me the best! “I don't care what you look like, male or female, young or old, ugly or pretty..." He paused menacingly, "But get me someone who fits the bill by tomorrow morning, or you'll be the one looking for a job! He turned around and walked out slamming the door hard, walked through the office and out to his office without looking back or greeting anyone, he was fed up with people and this day in particular, so it would be best if he locked himself in his office and didn't come out until he was going to leave for home. As Patrick stormed off to his office, Mr. Roberts was still staring at the door weighing the full extent of Patrick Hamilton's words to him. He knew he would keep his word to the letter and not deviate one iota, so he would have to move, and fast. He used the intercom to call one of the secretaries, he needed to review again the files he had discarded because they did not meet the requirements for reasons other than experience and resume. He had discarded several young women because they were too beautiful and others because they were too young, he knew that Patrick Hamilton despised beautiful women, according to the gossip, it was because a woman he was going to marry had betrayed him with a friend a few days before the wedding, a friend of his, who was going to be the godmother of the wedding, had gotten her with another man in his apartment. And that was not all, but then he got engaged to another girl, and this time it was the same one who got her in the arms of another man, because he had returned from the airport because he had left some papers at home, when he entered her room she was completely naked in the arms of another guy who had turned out to be the trainer of the gym where she attended. From then on, and at that time he was only twenty”five years old, he never had a girlfriend or anything like that again, he only had contact, very sporadically, with women with whom he shared a little s*x* and nothing more, in short, Patrick Hamilton was a bitter man.

CHAPTER 2: A CHANCE FOR RACHEL

Poor Mr. Roberts lasted all that day going through resume after resume with his two secretaries and the young assistant who worked for him. He was very clear with them because he knew that if Mr. Hamilton's fury was unleashed, they would all be out on their asses, so they went to work hard, all other departmental business was put on the back burner until this matter was resolved. Another department head complained to Roberts because he still had not gotten him an engineer he had requested, the man had complained to him about it and seemed willing to stay there in his office until he got him what he wanted, Mr. Roberts just told him that they were working hard to get the assistant to the presidency for Mr. Hamilton. “If you want, Ernest," he said with all the intention in the world, "I can get to work on yours, but when Mr. Hamilton asks me in the morning what happened with his assistant I will tell him that I didn't do it because of y
