“I hope the vacation was everything you wished it would be?” Brian asked me as I excitedly nodded. “I’m glad to know that, I have something to tell you,” He said with a faint smile, as my heart raised waiting for him to go on one knee to ask me to marry him. Just then a lady stepped out of our room, I was shocked to see her as we had locked the door before travelling. It didn’t matter to me though who she was, I was about to be engaged. “Bella, meet Marriam, my fiancee and mother to my unborn child.” He said, holding her hand. I stood confused, looking from him to her and then to her stomach. “Your what?” I managed to ask. What will become the fate of Bella who was hoping for an engagement and not a breakup? Find out here.

Chapter 1

Bella's POV

“Bella, hope you are done arranging your bag for the trip?” Brian, my boyfriend for the last five years, asked from the room where he was getting his things set.

“Almost,” I answered from the kitchen.

It was our fifth anniversary and we were going to Paris to celebrate it. We’ve been planning to go to Paris for a vacation for over three years and have been saving towards it. So, when he suggested we go on the trip during our fifth anniversary, I jumped at the idea as it would be romantic.

Brian and I have been dating for five years and have been living together for over three years. He was the one who suggested I move in with him as I was spending a lot of nights at his place and frankly paying rent for my apartment didn’t seem necessary. I decided to give it a try as it would help me save money and get to know him better since the plan was to get married.

“You better hurry up and make sure you take everything you will be needing,” He shouted again from the room.

“Okay love,” I said, trying to tidy the kitchen, as returning from a week's trip to find the kitchen dirty and with a foul stench was not part of my plans.

We had three hours before catching our flight and knowing Brian I was certain He wanted us to be at the airport, two hours before the flight time.

I rushed into the room and picked up the few things I had not added to my travelling box already.

His bag was set to go and so was he, so I had to quickly get set if I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to have a happy ride to the airport.

“I’m set,” I said, when I was certain, I had all I needed.

“A quick check,” He said.

“Phone?” He asked.

“Check.”

“Passport?”

“Check.”

“Tickets?”

“Check.”

“Luggage?”

“Check,”

"Snacks?"

"Check"

“Me?”

I giggled before saying “Check,”

He walked up to me and planted a kiss on my forehead before opening the front door for me to step out.

He flagged down a taxi when we got outside the house and we drove to the airport.

Throughout the ride, I focused my attention on how beautiful the trip would be, I tried to imagine all the wonderful things we would be doing during our vacation, the places we would visit and the foods we would eat.

Although I tried to take my mind off the possibility of getting engaged during the vacation, it was present and it made me super excited. I just couldn’t wait to tell everyone that I was engaged to be married to the man I have loved with all my heart all this time and that we were going to be married to be with each other for life.

I noticed he had been making secret calls for the last few days and I could not help but wonder if He wanted to make a grand romantic gesture, although I did not mind if he made it with just the both of us being present without the rose petals and the write-up or any of those kinds of stuff, all I wanted was to be his fully and legally.

We got to the airport, alighted from the taxi and walked into the airport. We did all that was required and sat back. At this time we still had over an hour free before the boarding would begin.

In order not to be bored as Brian was busy on his phone or to expose my excitement to him by interrupting him, I decided to put a call across to Ava my best friend turned sister.

“Hey Girl,” I said as soon as she picked up the call.

“Please do not tell me you are still home or that He cancelled the trip,” she said, with a concerned tone.

I laughed, “Neither,”

“Good,” she said. Ava wasn’t a big fan of Brian and I knew it, she was always suspecting him of one thing or the other.

After a  few years, she decided to stop voicing out her suspicions, not because it wasn’t there but because she wanted to support my joy. She saw that I loved Brian for real and that He made me happy, so she decided to accommodate him.

“We are at the airport, but we have about an hour before the boarding, so I decided to call,” I explained to her.

“Okay, where is Brian?” she asked.

“He is making a call,” I said searching for him in the crowd.

"That's not right, I know you guys are going away together but still shouldn't you guys be communicating your expectations and the experience you want from this trip now?" she asked.

“Calm down girl, He just had to take the call," I said, defending him.

"You are always good at defending him, well done. Anyway, you sound excited about this trip," She said, I was happy she changed the topic and her tone as it was getting to me already.

"Yes, I'm excited about the trip, also, I think He is making plans to propose to me, He has been making secret calls for a few days now, a little before he announced that we were going on this trip to me,” I said to her.

“It's about time he did the needful, bridesmaid duty loading,” she said, giggling.

“I know right? I promise to stress you during the wedding preparations,” I said laughing.

“I was born for that day,” she responded.

“Are you at work?” I asked after the laughter had subsided

“No, but will be leaving home soon, just had to take care of some things.”

“Okay, Brian is walking back now, will call you when we arrive in Paris,”

“You go girl, safe flight,” She said.

“Take care, bye,” I said before hanging up.

“Are you good?” I asked Brian when he got to where I was seated as his mood looked a bit off.

“Yes, I am, why do you ask?” He asked,

“Just want to know,” I said, not wanting to tell him he looked a bit pale. Moreover, I wasn't certain if he had that look at the time we left the house, been so busy preparing for the trip for the last few days, that I hadn't paid attention to his looks or mood, I assumed he was as happy as I was over the trip. We both needed a break from work and the business of everyday life.

He still looked handsome, like He would be snatched from me by one of the desperate ladies. I have seen that happen in movies, where a handsome man becomes the centre of attraction for ladies and they eventually steal his attention from his girlfriend. But with Brian, I had no reason to fear, He loved me and I trusted that He would be mine forever. So, they were free to admire him from afar, but He was mine for the taking.

“I am good dear, just a bit stressed out” He said with a faint smile.

“I understand, you've been busy putting things together for this trip. I can't wait to see you have a refreshing time. Are you ready to have fun?” I asked, placing my hand into his.

“I am more than ready, I am super excited,” He said, planting a peck on the back of my palm.

“What do you have planned?” I asked him, wanting to know what to expect from the trip.

“Can’t tell you, It going to be a surprise,” He said.

“Okay,” I said with a shy smile. My mind was off the activity and was wandering about a surprise proposal.

“So, relax and let me treat you like the queen that you are,” He said and I blushed.

“You have been of so much help to me for these past years, you’ve brought colour and flavour to my life and you’ve shown me what love is,” He said, I took a slow look around wondering if he was about to propose to me at the airport, as I couldn’t understand why he was speaking all sweet to me.

“You know I love you right, and would not hurt you intentionally?” He asked.

“Yes, I know and I love you too,” I responded, resting my head on his shoulder.

“Hope you’re good?” I asked again, to be certain all was well with him.

“Yes love,” He answered and this time he kissed me on the lips.  A sy me bowed my head incase anyone was watching us. I could feel my pulse rising in excitement and butterflies in my stomach.

We discussed other things while waiting to board the plane, soon it was time and we boarded the plane.

A few hours later, we arrived inParis.

Chapter 2

Bella’s POV

We arrived at the Airport in Paris after a few hours, I was tired as I had not flown in a long time. I had jet lag and all I wanted was to get to my hotel room, take a warm shower and retire for the day, 'the fun can begin tomorrow'. I took the closest seat I could find and tried stretching my legs. for someone who had been sitting for a long time, I sank into the chair like I had been on a military standing duty.

Brian being a sweetheart, looked at me in one glance and couldn't help laughing as he left me to go get our luggage.

"Thank you, love," I said, as he handed me one of my luggage. I had travelled like a typical lady would, with two pieces of luggage while he came along with one. So, he carried one of mine alongside his while he handed me the other.

"You look exhausted," He said, as he helped me to my feet.

I made a tired sound as I stood up like a woman who was heavily pregnant would. "I can't even feel my legs," I
