I spent one reckless night with a stranger after catching my fiancé cheating. The next morning, he disappeared… only for me to discover he was the most wanted mafia heir in the city. Now I’m hunting him as a detective— while secretly carrying his twins… and he wants me to become his contract wife.
Chapter 1
“Marcus!” I shouted as I pushed his office door open without knocking. The moment I stepped inside, I froze. What I saw in front of me didn’t make sense at all. For a second, I honestly thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.
Marcus was there, sitting comfortably like nothing was wrong, and on top of him was a blonde woman. They were both so lost in what they were doing that they didn’t even notice I had walked in. It felt like time stopped, like my brain refused to accept what I was seeing.
“Marcus!” I yelled again, this time louder and filled with anger. My hands shook as I threw the lunch I had carefully packed for him onto the floor. The container burst open, the food spilling everywhere. “What is this nonsense? Marcus, what is going on? And who the hell are you?” I snapped, turning to the woman.
Before I could even think twice, I grabbed her by the hair and pulled her away from him. Anger took over me completely. I raised my hand, ready to slap her, but Marcus moved quickly. He caught my hand in the air before it could land on her face.
“And what do you think you are doing, Alicia?” Marcus asked coldly, still holding my wrist tightly.
I stared at him in shock. For a moment, I wondered if this was really the same man I was about to marry. My fiancé. The man I thought I knew. Then I looked at the woman. She had a smirk on her face, like she was enjoying every second of this.
“Marcus… we’re getting married at the end of this month…” I said, my voice shaking and breaking. “What is this?”
Instead of answering my question, he let go of my hand roughly and frowned at me. “What are you doing here, Alicia?” he asked like I was the one who had done something wrong. “I don’t remember asking you to come to my office today.”
He walked past me and went straight to the blonde woman. His expression changed immediately. He looked soft and caring, something I hadn’t seen in a long time. “Did she hurt you?” he asked her gently.
That question hit me harder than anything else. I couldn’t even remember the last time Marcus had asked me if I was okay.
“Marcus, I brought you lunch,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady even though I felt like crying. “I was on my way to work, and I thought of you. I care about you. I love you. Is this what you do here every day? Is this why you come home late? Is this why you don’t answer my calls?”
I grabbed his shirt, desperate for answers. “Answer me, Marcus!”
“Stop this madness, Alicia!” he snapped, raising his voice. His tone was harsh and embarrassing. “Must you always come here and disgrace me?”
I stepped back slightly, confused and hurt. “What do you mean?” I asked quietly.
He looked me up and down, his face full of judgment. “Since you decided to come here with that silly lunch, couldn’t you at least dress better?” he said. “Something more feminine. Something that shows your curves. Something that makes you look like a proper woman.”
His words felt like sharp knives. He continued, “But no… you had to come dressed like this, showing everyone that you’re a police officer. Always acting tough. Always acting like a man.”
“Marcus, I’m on duty today,” I said, trying not to cry. My voice was weak now. “Who is she? Who is this woman?” I asked again, pointing at the blonde lady.
Marcus rolled his eyes like he was tired of me. “Alright then, Alicia. Since you’re so proud of your job, you can march out of my office with your boots and go do your duty,” he said sarcastically.
The woman laughed softly, and Marcus joined her. Their laughter filled the room, making everything worse.
I felt the pain settle deep inside my chest, but I still needed to hear it. I needed to know the truth. “Who is she, Marcus?” I asked again, even though I was already afraid of the answer.
He turned to the woman with a smile and fixed her hair gently. “She wants to know who you are, baby,” he said. “Should I tell her, or do you want to do it yourself?”
“I’ll tell her,” the woman said sweetly. Her voice was soft and calm, almost too calm for the situation.
She stepped forward and looked straight at me. “My name is Rosalie,” she said with a small smile. “I’m Marcus’s girlfriend. Who are you?”
Her question felt like a slap to my face.
“I am his fiancée!” I replied angrily, my voice rising again.
She laughed lightly, like what I said didn’t matter. “Oh no, sweetie,” she said, shaking her head. “Marcus wouldn’t want to spend his life with someone who behaves like a man. He needs someone soft… someone gentle… someone like me.”
She giggled and looked at Marcus, who smiled back at her like she had just said something amazing.
“Did you hear that?” Marcus said, looking at me. “Police officer.” He took her hand and kissed her fingers slowly, like I wasn’t even there.
I swallowed the pain. At that point, I didn’t even know what else could hurt more.
“So… what about our wedding?” I asked quietly. “It’s supposed to be at the end of the month…”
“Wedding?” Rosalie asked, frowning as she turned to Marcus. “What wedding?”
Marcus shrugged like it was nothing important. “I don’t know what she’s talking about,” he said carelessly. “Maybe she’s dreaming. Maybe she wants to marry one of her police colleagues.”
They both burst into laughter again, loud and cruel.
That was it. I couldn’t take it anymore. My heart felt heavy, like it was breaking into pieces right there. I couldn’t go to work anymore. I couldn’t think straight.
Without saying anything else, I turned and walked out of the office. I didn’t even know where I was going. I just needed to leave that place.
As I reached the door, Marcus’s voice stopped me.
“Make sure you pack your things out of my house,” he said casually, like he was talking about something small.
I paused for a second but didn’t turn back.
“And don’t forget your guns, cop!” he added mockingly.
I finally walked out of the office and into the hallway. My steps felt heavy, like I was carrying the weight of everything that had just happened.
Behind me, I could still hear their laughter. It echoed in my ears, following me all the way out of the building.
Chapter 2
“The b*tch is gone now, baby… let’s continue what we were doing,” Rosalie said, moving closer to Marcus and reaching for his trousers with a bold smile.
But before she could go any further, Marcus suddenly grabbed her hand and stopped her.
“Get up,” he said sharply.
His tone had changed completely. It was no longer playful or relaxed. It was cold and serious, almost dangerous.
“Ouch!” Rosalie cried out as she felt his grip tighten, not on her hand this time, but around her neck. She tried to pull away, her eyes widening in shock. “What is this?” she asked, clearly confused and uncomfortable.
“Now listen carefully,” Marcus began, his voice low but firm. “I will not have you insult Alicia. Do you understand me?”
Rosalie struggled against his hold, trying to free herself. “But you hate her…” she said, her voice strained. “So why are you—just let me go already!”
“Yes, I hate her,” Marcus replied w
