Betrayed by her father, who despite being an adult still reads him fairy tales and gives him gifts every payday, she is forced to take care of the only support in her life, her mother, who almost never refuses her wishes. When the stress seems incurable, her jealousy of others who are more successful swallows her alive, making fun of Zergan. But when the only person she loves is dying, Luna loses her selfishness in an instant. Her feet ran in a hurry, ignoring the people who stared at her in astonishment thinking someone like her shouldn't be able to cry. Luna tried to ask for help from someone she'd never seen before, her boss, Nathanio. People said her boss was a man who had zero tolerance for disability in his work. Even to get to him, Luna has to jump through some hoops. Instead of witnessing a cruel figure that Luna was ready and willing to bow down to, Zergan Nathanio sat there, unmoving, and expressionless. How could Luna possibly ask for help from someone she mocked almost every day.
Chapter 1
There was never a human being who asked me what I wanted most in this world except my mother.
Unfortunately, my mother, Evelyn, was hospitalized with a chronic illness after working herself to death for us to survive.
I could no longer imagine a bright future for us except that our lives would be destroyed. My feet carried my limp body through the corridors of the hospital that was quite deserted in the middle of the night.
No matter how far I ran, this madness never died in my soul. Tears soon flowed down my cold cheeks. When was the last time I cried? I can't even remember. Memories after memories of the past I always desperately wanted to forget.
Beep. Beep.
With a hand that was already limp, I picked up the cell phone that was in the pocket of my jeans. My eyes narrowed as I found an email from a familiar name.
No way. After graduating from college, I applied to many companies. I was almost desperate because there was no answer from anywhere plus my mother suddenly fell ill and had to be hospitalized in our low financial state, this made me want to commit suicide.
But a ray of hope appeared. A company that I knew was one of the best in the country suddenly contacted me for an interview. I rushed back to my mom's room and told her the good news.
The next day, I went to the company looking my best, of course. But the excitement that welled up in my heart soon faded away to be replaced with an explosive rage.
There were two men I hated the most in this world.
First, my father who left me and my mother for another woman. Second, Zergan. I will never call Zergan a friend even though he was in the same school as me. He always looked pitiful. But how did he end up here? His appearance did not change much. His body became taller and bigger but his glasses remained the same.
Our eyes suddenly met. Instantly my eyes glanced the other way. It was so disgusting. I wanted to run away from this great opportunity. If only my mother wasn't sick, I would've left when I saw Zergan.
I was ushered into a room by a clerk and my eyes were immediately drawn to a charming man in a neat suit.
"Good morning, Miss Luna. I'm Raga from Aureum Syndicate's Human Resources team. How are you?"
I felt like there were tons of butterflies fluttering happily in my stomach. Both corners of my lips pulled in on their own.
"Good morning, Mr. Raga. I am Luna Qinra. Thank you for giving me a chance. I'm doing well so far."
The man immediately noticed me from head to toe. And I have absolutely no idea why he suddenly did that. I just hoped my appearance was really outstanding.
"Your portfolio is very interesting. Why are you interested in applying to Kryonix?"
"After I read about Aura Moda's vision, especially its focus on sustainability and ethics, I felt it was more than just a fashion brand. My background is in visual arts, so I saw it as an opportunity to combine my creativity with a bigger mission."
The interview with Raga lasted quite a while. I was quite confident that I would be contacted again.
When I came out of the room, I met Zergan who had just come out from another room. I hurriedly accelerated my footsteps. D*mn it.
Looks like he's also interviewing, just like me. Suddenly, I smelled a perfume that immediately made me cover my nose.
Not because the smell is pungent and unpleasant, but quite the opposite. I looked back and met Zergan who I just realized was wearing expensive clothes. That perfume... After being outside the office, my feet stopped and my body turned to Zergan.
"You're not planning to be in the same company as me, are you?"
Zergan looked very surprised to see me talking to him. Of course, he couldn't possibly think that I would talk to him like this because as long as we were in the same school, I always ignored Zergan.
"What's wrong Lun?"
"Have you gone crazy? Of course neither me nor you, no one wants us to be in the same company."
"Why?"
This guy was somehow being presumptuous. My hand couldn't resist slapping his cheek. Zergan immediately touched the cheek where I slapped him.
"Have you forgotten because it's been so many years? But there's no way. You immediately recognized me as Luna, one of the people who hated you the most. It even seems like in this world the one who hates you the most is me."
Zergan lowered his face which made me give him a disgusted look. That's just how he is.
"What's going on?"
My heart was beating fast in panic. What if the person who called witnessed everything? My head turned quickly. My body was transfixed by the woman's appearance. This was the first time I had seen a woman like a fairy. Her beauty seemed mesmerizing.
"Looks like you guys had a fight. Are you okay?" this woman asked.
Her voice was also very good. I instantly felt the same jealousy I felt for Vanessa, the most beautiful girl in our school who had almost everything.
"Good morning, Miss Galatea."
Zergan knows this woman? I instantly had a feeling that the past that I desperately wanted to forget was about to repeat itself. Zergan, that I beat up almost every day, so favored by Vanessa, the girl I was jealous of to death for having almost everything I wanted. Should I resign from this company?
"Good morning to you too Zergan," Galatea greeted kindly.
Zergan had just been called in for an interview just like me but how could he already know this woman who seemed to already be an employee at the company? Zergan immediately noticed my confusion. He looked at me with his slightly blank eyes. At the same time, I felt a strange situation between the two of us.
Chapter 2
"I hope you are accepted into this company."
Galatea smiled at us with a beautiful smile but I focused instead on the clothes and jewelry she was wearing.
An overwhelming jealousy still lingered in my soul.
I only smiled slightly in return.
Unlike Zergan who said thank you.
After that Galatea excused herself.
I couldn't possibly let a situation similar to the past happen again.
"If you get hired at this company, you can't accept it! Don't ever set foot here again!" I threatened Zergan in a cold tone.
In the past, Zergan always nodded his head to my threats.
But now, the man didn't budge but looked at me worriedly.
"Why should I do that when I need this job? I need the money too!" Zergan snapped.
My hand couldn't resist slapping him again.
"You dare raise your voice at me? You seem to have changed a lot," I said coldly.
