Chapter 1:Graduation Day Mishap
Luna Lu never imagined—not even in her wildest dreams—that her graduation day would inadvertently mark the start of a life-changing event.
“Zoey, Shelly, are you two done eating?”
“Ugh… Can someone please get me a glass of water? I'm dying of thirst!”
Half-asleep, Luna felt a parched dryness in her throat, accompanied by a throbbing headache and general discomfort. She turned slightly, hoping to ease the soreness in her waist, but as she rolled over, her hand pressed against something firm and warm.
"Since when did Zoey become so muscular?" Luna wondered drowsily. Instantly, she realized: No, this wasn't her best friend Zoey Shen!
Panicking, Luna—who usually slept with her head under the covers—quickly poked her head out from beneath the blanket. Her eyes fell upon a man's attractive Adam's apple.
She shuffled upward a bit, revealing a face so handsome it seemed carved by an artist—sharp, masculine, and breathtakingly perfect. His eyes were deep and intense, like icy pools hiding countless secrets. Cold, detached, yet undeniably magnetic.
Meeting his powerful gaze, Luna shivered involuntarily. "Oh my god," she thought, dazed, "this man must have walked straight out of my dreams!"
Luna sighed inwardly: "Even my dreams are generous today—giving me a handsome man since I’ve never had a boyfriend in over twenty years."
She widened her eyes desperately, terrified that she'd wake up any second and lose sight of the dream man beside her.
Adrian Shaw stared down at Luna, realization dawning on him. "So, she's the woman from last night!"
Her face looked somewhat familiar—where had he seen her before? Most astonishingly, he had no negative reaction to her touch, something he'd never experienced before. Adrian quickly recalled yesterday's events.
Yesterday marked his official return home after retiring from military service. Upon arrival, his cousins eagerly took him to their family-owned Grand Cloud Hotel, enthusiastically pouring him drinks. Thoroughly intoxicated, Adrian had been taken to a hotel suite to rest...
"Have you stared long enough?" Adrian finally asked dryly.
"Shh! Don't speak! You'll scare away my dream guy," Luna quickly whispered, pressing a finger to her lips to signal silence.
Adrian stared at her incredulously, speechless: Could this woman be insane? Had Alec and Leo become so desperate as to send him someone mentally unstable?
He reached out and flicked her forehead lightly.
"Ouch!" Luna immediately clutched her head, jolted awake by the sudden pain.
Terrified, she realized the dream man was real—and still there, watching her intently. She sat up abruptly, realized she was completely unclothed, and hastily retreated under the covers, kicking frantically at the stranger lying next to her.
"I'll call the police! Boohoo..." Luna started sobbing helplessly.
Adrian sneered, "Oh, so you're not crazy after all? Stop pretending! You weren't so shy when climbing into my bed last night. Why act innocent now? Besides, I have zero interest in women. Now get lost!"
He casually wrapped the bed-runner around his waist, then methodically began checking every corner of the room. However, he found nothing suspicious.
Watching him search, Luna assumed he was looking for hidden cameras—she'd seen scenes like this on TV dramas.
Observing him, she realized that even half-dressed, the man exuded an extraordinary air of nobility and aloofness, clearly untouchable. Instantly, she knew this was not someone she could afford to anger.
Adrian narrowed his eyes and approached the bed, noticing the conspicuous marks on Luna’s exposed neck and collarbone.
"Still here?" His voice was dangerously calm. "I'll give you one chance: Was it Alec or Leo who sent you?"
"Sir, I have no idea what nonsense you're saying! I don't even know this Alec or Leo you’re talking about. Stop slandering me after taking advantage!" Luna shot back, her eyes anxiously darting around the room. Her clothes lay shredded across the floor, and traces of last night's intimacy lingered in the air. Her phone and purse were nowhere to be found.
Gathering her courage, she timidly asked, "Sir… could I borrow your phone? I need to call my friend to bring me some clothes."
Adrian glanced at the scattered clothing, then at the trembling woman wrapped tightly in blankets, and softened slightly. "I'll have someone send clothes instead. If your friend sees you like this..." He deliberately left his sentence unfinished.
Luna grasped his implication—being discovered would damage her reputation. She reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Adrian’s offer wasn’t kindness, merely curiosity—he wanted to find out who had arranged this scenario.
Picking up his phone, Adrian called Shane Shen. "Bring an XS-sized high-neck women's outfit to Presidential Suite 1119 at Grand Cloud Hotel."
Shane, still half-asleep, responded groggily but quickly snapped awake, teasing, "Wow, Adrian! When did your gynophobia vanish? Come on, spill!"
"Cut the nonsense. Hurry up!" Adrian hung up, heading straight into the bathroom. Soon, the shower’s steady hum filled the suite.
Luna curled up miserably under the covers, crying softly, memories of last night returning piece by piece.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Shangcheng University's graduation had been postponed until September.
"Luna, hurry up and change into your master's gown! We're celebrating our graduation at Grand Cloud Hotel tonight!" Shelly Zhuang had cheerfully urged, holding a huge bouquet.
"Exactly! We've been waiting forever," Zoey Shen agreed. "Tonight, dinner's on me—we won't leave until everyone's drunk!"
Zoey was Luna’s lifelong friend, as their mothers had been best friends as well. In college, Luna befriended Shelly Zhuang, her roommate. Soon, the trio became inseparable.
They had celebrated joyfully in a private room Zoey reserved at Grand Cloud Hotel, reminiscing over university days and dreaming about the future. Luna, inexperienced with alcohol, got tipsy after only two glasses. Zoey thoughtfully booked a room for her to rest. And after that… Luna woke up to this disaster.
Her thoughts were interrupted as Adrian emerged fully dressed from the bathroom. Luna lowered her head, not daring to look again. This man was dangerously handsome!
A knock on the door broke the tense silence. Adrian swiftly approached, opening the door to Shane Shen, who quickly slipped inside.
Handing Adrian the bag of clothes, Shane teased, "Well done, Adrian! No wonder you turned down drinks last night, saying you had plans…"
Adrian gave him a dark look, cutting him off sharply, "Go wait in the study. We have things to discuss."
Deflated, Shane obediently left for the adjacent room. Adrian returned to Luna, setting the bag down coldly. "Take a shower and get changed." Without another word, he left, closing the bedroom door behind him.
As soon as he was gone, Luna snatched up the bag, wrapping herself tightly in the blanket as she hurried into the bathroom. After securely locking the door, she reluctantly discarded the blanket, gazing with regret at the obvious marks covering her body.
If she'd known alcohol would cause such trouble, she'd never have touched it. Now she'd lost her innocence—her mother would have been disappointed.
Overwhelmed, Luna sobbed softly, repeatedly scrubbing herself clean, feeling an intense pang of guilt and sorrow.
Shane Shen leaned back on the sofa, casually blowing elegant smoke rings, and smirked, "You’re investigating your cousins the minute you return? If your grandmother finds out, it won’t end well. Besides, you didn’t exactly suffer a loss last night—or was that actually your first time?"
Adrian tensed at Shane’s words, unwilling to admit that despite his gynophobia, the girl from last night had effortlessly overcome his defenses. Her softness lingered vividly in his memory, making him uncomfortable yet intrigued.
Seeing Adrian lost in thought, Shane raised an eyebrow teasingly. "No way, Adrian! Was last night really your first?"
Adrian snapped back to reality, shooting Shane a cold glare that silenced him instantly.
In Shangcheng, both the Shaw and Shen families were prominent elites. The Shen family maintained a strict traditional hierarchy, entrusting their legacy to their eldest heirs, thus avoiding internal conflicts. Conversely, the Shaw family had a history marked by power struggles and family rivalry. Shane, coming from the Shen family’s second branch, was free to pursue his own passions.
"If I don’t thoroughly investigate now," Adrian explained firmly, grinding his cigarette out into the ashtray, "next time, Alec and Leo might not stop at drugging me and sending women. Last night was likely just a test."
Shane was taken aback. "You mean they planned this from the beginning? And here I thought they’d sent you a welcome gift."
Ignoring Shane’s sarcasm, Adrian swiftly left the study, determined to question the woman again. However, when he entered the bedroom, he found the door already open and the woman gone. Pulling back the blanket, he noticed the vivid red stain left behind.
From behind, Shane commented dryly, "Looks like your cousins really treated you well—they even sent you a virgin."
"Shut up!" Adrian growled, irritated.
As the two men prepared to leave, Adrian opened the suite door and was stunned to see Luna Lu standing awkwardly at the entrance, fist raised mid-knock.
"Are you here for revenge?" Adrian asked drily.
Luna blushed furiously and stared down, embarrassed. "I’m sorry, I accidentally went into the wrong room last night. Here's some money as compensation." Before Adrian could respond, she quickly stuffed a bundle of cash into his hand and bolted away.
Adrian stared silently after her, utterly speechless.
Behind Adrian, Shane squinted curiously at Luna’s retreating figure. "Luna?"
"What?" Adrian turned sharply.
"That girl looked exactly like my sister’s best friend, Luna Lu!" Shane explained.
"Really?" Adrian's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "Then quickly confirm it with your sister. Also, investigate whether Alec or Leo sent her last night. I want an update by this afternoon. I have to visit my grandmother now, but let’s meet again later for coffee."
He clapped Shane's shoulder, waved Luna’s money mockingly, and walked away briskly.
Shane stood rooted to the spot, baffled. This was definitely a first—seeing a woman compensate a man after being the one who'd suffered.
Outside the hotel, bodyguards from Orange Garden Villa awaited Adrian respectfully. "Young Master, the Old Madam awaits you at Orange Garden Villa."
"Let's go," Adrian replied coolly.
Moments later, his Rolls-Royce, flanked by several vehicles, departed swiftly.
Too embarrassed by the marks on her body, Luna didn’t dare return home immediately. Instead, she called her nanny, Susan Cheng.
"Susan, I'll stay at my friend’s place for a few days. I just received my master's degree yesterday and want to relax a little."
"Alright, Miss Luna. I'll inform your father once he returns," Susan replied gently.
"Thank you, Susan!"
"No need to thank me, Miss Luna. Just make sure you take good care of yourself," Susan reminded her warmly.
"I promise," Luna replied softly, eyes misting with gratitude.
Ever since her mother, Faye Lu, had passed away, Susan—once a servant in the Lu household and now Luna's nanny—was the only person at home who genuinely cared for her. When Luna was born, Faye couldn't nurse her, and Luna refused formula. Susan, having recently given birth herself, stepped in, nursing Luna as her own. Susan had even stopped breastfeeding her own five-month-old daughter prematurely to ensure Luna was properly nourished, a sacrifice Luna had never forgotten.
Grateful, Luna’s grandfather had provided Susan’s family with a comfortable home in Shangcheng. From infancy, Luna affectionately called her nanny "mom cheng," treating her as family.
Sadly, most of the Lu family's other servants had been bought by the Qin family, leaving Susan as Luna’s only trusted ally at home. Luna felt like an orphan despite having relatives.
After ending the call with Susan, Luna arrived at the Shen family villa.
Zoey Shen was still asleep, but Aunt Zhang greeted Luna warmly at the door. "Miss Luna, come inside! Miss Zoey hasn’t woken up yet."
"Thank you, Aunt Zhang!" Luna responded politely, smiling warmly. Since childhood, Luna had visited frequently and was beloved by everyone there. Her mother, Faye Lu, had instilled in her the importance of respecting everyone equally, regardless of status.
"You’re always so polite, Miss Luna," Aunt Zhang replied fondly. "Madam! Miss Luna is here!"
"Luna’s here?" Rachel Zhao called cheerfully from inside. "Come here, sweetie, and sit with your godmother."
"Hello, Godmother," Luna greeted respectfully, sitting beside Rachel.
"Aunt Zhang, bring Luna some freshly washed fruit, and also fetch the sweater I knitted for her the other day," Rachel instructed.
"Right away, Madam."
Rachel adored knitting, producing countless sweaters, scarves, and hats. Eventually, her husband Charles Shen helped her set up an online boutique to sell these creations, each priced in the thousands.
Rachel gently admired Luna. "My lovely goddaughter becomes prettier every day!"
"You're teasing me again, Godmother," Luna blushed shyly.
Chapter 2: Striking While the Iron’s Hot
"Luna, your godmother knitted another new sweater pattern for you a few days ago. Try it on later. Once the weather cools down, it'll be perfect. I'll also knit you a matching woolen skirt. Gloves, scarves, and hats—I already have plenty in storage, so I'll give those to you too," Rachel Zhao said warmly to Luna Lu.
Luna hugged Rachel gratefully. "Thank you, Godmother! You've made me so many lovely clothes and accessories over the years. I'll definitely be as filial to you as Zoey is in the future."
"You sweet talker!" Rachel laughed happily. "But I'll be looking forward to that day!"
Soon, Aunt Zhang brought in a plate of fresh fruit along with the sweater.
"Luna, quick! Try it on. Tell me if you like it!" Rachel urged eagerly.
"Anything my godmother knits, I love!" Luna responded warmly as she slipped the sweater on.
Rachel admired her with affection. "It's a perfect fit! The cream color suits you beautifully. My Luna gets prettier by the day."
