Elena had never been his first choice. If Ethan could have, he would have picked Sophia. She was the family's , favorite, the golden child, the one who would have fit his plan perfectly, But standing here, at the altar, with Elena Sinclair in front of him , the Sinclair had done it yet again, this was not the wedding they had planned. Something had changed, the bride. The Sinclairs had always been fraudulent, but even Ethan hadn't expected this level of deception. They had switched his bride. Why? His gaze drifted to Elena, her delicate features hidden behind a thin veil. She looked fragile, too fragile to be a Sinclair. Yet, he knew better. She had their blood. She would be no different. It didn’t matter. This marriage was already a prison, and he was going to make sure Elena never found happiness in it. None of the Sinclair deserved happiness—not after what they had done to him. Not after they destroyed his family. They had forgotten who he was. But soon—when his revenge was complete—they would remember. He wasn’t just Ethan Blackwood, the billionaire on everyone's lips. No. He was the son of a murdered father. And the brother of a missing sister.
THE WRONG BRIDE
Ethan Blackwood had been waiting for this moment, not out of love, but for revenge.
This marriage was a necessary step in his plan to bring down the Sinclair family. Marrying Sophia Sinclair, the golden child, the crown jewel of Richard Sinclair’s empire, would have put him exactly where he needed to be but unfortunately The moment Ethan lifted the veil, the world around him seemed to stop. This wasn’t Sophia Sinclair, this is not his bride. A flicker of disbelief crossed his usually unreadable face as he stared at the woman before him, Ethan’s entire body went rigid. His sharp, calculated mind processed the situation in seconds, this was a setup. A deception it was Elena Sinclair, Sophia's sister. His voice was cold, his countenance sharp, still maintaining his composure, amidst the recent disappointment and new discovery, “is this some kind of joke” he muttered , but audible enough for Mr. Richard Sinclair to understand his dismay.
Whispers were beginning to spread through the grand hall, the priest had already asked for the couple to say their vows, but Ethan was already loosing composure, he didn’t seem to care for the words coming out of the priest mouth, instead His jaw tightened as he turned away from the woman who was now, or rather about to legally be his bride.
"I am sorry , I think I am a bit overwhelmed, where is Mr. Sinclair " His voice echoed through the cathedral, as he searches for his suppose father in-law, in the crowd, a crowd of just Mr. Sinclair's family and close associates
Richard stepped forward from the front row, adjusting his tie with an air of calm authority, of course He had expected this reaction, he had just switched the brides, Ethan was suppose to marry Sophia, at least that was what he was made to believe, and just this very moment he had made Elena walk down the aisle instead, he knew Ethan would be shock, he had not giving him any heads up whatsoever, he is a ruthless man, he was going to bend the almighty Ethan blackwood, the youngest billionaire was no match for him in terms of surprises
"A word, Mr. Blackwood," Richard called, gesturing toward the hallway.
Ethan followed, his every step laced with tension, his fists clenched at his sides, He knew how vile and fraudulent Richard was , but this was below the belt, and right now he was not going to let this man ruin his plan, no matter what, he had spent years planning the perfect revenge against the Sinclair, and marrying Sophia in a contract marriage was just the beginning, This was a setup, a game the Sinclair's know how to play all too well, he was familiar with it, he was not going to indulge or be a pawn in the Sinclair's game,
The moment they were alone, Ethan turned to face the man who had orchestrated this deceit.
"what is the meaning of this, Sinclair, we had a deal, why do I have a different bride at the alter, " Ethan said with his tone laced with fury.
Richard Sinclair sighed dramatically, shaking his head as if dealing with a naïve child.
"I know you must be confused," he began , smoothing down his jacket when Ethan finally released him. "Today, you were meant to marry my daughter Sophia. However, that is no longer possible."
Ethan’s eyes darkened. "that is not my question Sinclair, don't state the obvious, the question is Why? I agreed to this marriage for Sophia," Ethan hissed. "Where the hell is she?""
Richard exhaled slowly, as if burdened by some great responsibility. "Sophia had a change of heart. She decided not to go through with the marriage, You see, my daughter is quite… sensitive. I didn’t want to cause a scene." "instead you swapped her !!!" Ethan’s voice was deadly quiet.
Ethan's stare bore into him. A change of heart? all of a sudden he is a man that cares for feelings and emotions, Ethan could see through is act, the Richard Sinclair he knew would do anything without considering feelings or emotions, few weeks ago he was ready to sell off Sophia to the highest bidder, and now he is a loving father, there is another reason, and Ethan could sense it, he just doesn't know what it was, Ethan felt uneasy, because with Sinclair, what ever that reason may be, it could put his revenge plans in jeopardy, it meant that the Sinclair was a step ahead of him, his revenge was not just about a bride, it was more important which bride
Richard continued, his voice perfectly calculated. "Now tell me, Ethan… would you rather have the media spread the rumor that the great Ethan Blackwood was abandoned at the altar? That a Sinclair woman rejected him? surely we wouldn't want the stock prices to be plummeted by a rumor, we are forming an alliance, and we must do what we can to protect it"
Ethan knew what Richard was not a man that cared for rumor, they both have a team that could eradicate any rumor like it never existed , so making an excuse with a rumor was more proof that there was something up his sleeves , " I never pegged you a man scared of rumors, "
" if it can be avoided, then it must, besides This is a contract marriage, Mr. Blackwood. Not a love union. What difference does it make which daughter you marry?" Richard's lips curled slightly. "A win is a win."
Ethan didn’t respond, it was killing him that he did not see this move coming from Richard, his perfect revenge plan was about to fail , because he is marrying the wrong daughter, everyone knows he favors and adores Sophia, the most
Elena was rumored to be delinquent, or rather mute, because no one ever hears much from her anyway, this changes everything , his goal was to marry Sophia, and make her life a living hell, she was the closest thing to Mr. Richard heart aside greed, and being covetous, now with Elena, he would not care what happened in the marriage, this was just suppose to be the first step, but now they have been switched, and The Sinclair would want him to believe, there was a change of heart,!!!!
threats of rumor, no that's not possible. still he let him speak, and let him think that he can be brainwashed. "And Elena?" he asked. "Does she know?"
A brief pause.
"She found out today, just like you," Richard said with mock sympathy. "A shame, really. But she’s my daughter. She understands duty and her roles perfectly , Besides," Richard added, his tone deceptively light, "I’ve given you my firstborn daughter, my heir. Isn’t that a better deal?"
Ethan’s gaze flickered toward the grand hall where Elena would be at standing alone of course, His hands clenched into fists. He had been played, he had been cornered, But if Richard thought Ethan Blackwood would accept defeat so easily, he was gravely mistaken.
Golden chandeliers bathed the grand hall in warm light as Ethan walked into the cathedral, and stood at the alter again, reflecting off the polished marble floors. Rows of guests, dressed in their finest, whispered in admiration as Elena walked down the aisle again, The wedding of Elena Sinclair and Ethan Blackwood was going to be nothing short of perfection, at least, to those who didn’t know the truth.
she had left the hall briefly, confused, but more than ever pained . She wore an exquisite white gown, delicate lace tracing the curve of her shoulders, gown that was meant for her sister. the veil barely concealing the despair in her amber eyes, To them, she was a blushing bride walking toward the man of her dreams.
But she knew better, and so did he.
Ethan Blackwood stood at the altar, a titan in an obsidian suit that clung to his powerful frame, exuding raw dominance. His presence alone commanded the room, his dark eyes sharp as a dagger, a storm brewing behind their depths. He looked untouchable, invincible. A man who knew his power and wielded it without mercy. And today, whether she approves or not, she was going to be his weapon, one way or another, the Sinclair would pay for what they have done to him.
Every step Elena took felt heavier. Her father, walked beside her with a firm grip on her wrist, not in affection, but in control, His smile was for the guests, but his whispered words were for her alone, he had already made his warning clear enough just before the wedding , and even in his silence she could never forget his stern warning just while he was in her dressing room.
“Don’t embarrass me, you are marrying Ethan not because you are qualified to, but because it is the only duty you could ever fulfill, to us your parents, this is your chance, to be a daughter that I can be proud of, you must never return back here, you must only keep an eye on your husband, and make our business deals go through, at the very least, your sister sacrificed her love for you to marry this man, you are the eldest after all pay your honor to this family for once, be a Sinclair”
She swallowed the lump in her throat. It didn’t matter what she wanted, she had never been good enough, Sophia was always the outstanding one, she never understood why she never held a candle to her, Sophia gets rewarded for the most little things, even if Elena had achieved more, the glory goes to Sophia, if Sophia was wrong Elena would be punished instead, yet even right now, she seem to also be carrying another burden for the family, It was never a matter of choice, never had, and never would be, if her father commanded, then she must obey. The Sinclairs had already decided, that Sophia was too precious to be sacrificed, but Elena wasn't,
At the altar, Ethan reached out his hand, his fingers brushing against hers, cool and deliberate. To the onlookers, it was a moment of tenderness. But she felt the weight of iron shackles locking around her wrist.
“Breathtaking,” Ethan murmured, his voice deep and smooth, laced with mockery. “Almost makes me believe this is real.” Elena lifted her chin, meeting his gaze head-on despite the grief clenching her chest. what kind of man was this, despite knowing his bride was switched still wants to get married. " why are you doing this ” she whispered,
Ethan’s lips twitched, amusement flickering behind the calculated cruelty in his gaze. “ too late Elena, you already walked down here”
The priest cleared his throat, and the ceremony continued, vows exchanged in words neither truly meant. Ethan played his role flawlessly, his grip firm yet careful, his voice a perfect balance of adoration and possession. He looked at her as if she were the center of his world. if the Sinclair thought this would be enough to rile him up, then they must be mistaken, he was going to see this to the end. The crowd swooned and then Sophia, walks in and takes a seat in the front row close to her father, clenching her fists, she was furious, but her mother held unto her, as if to protect her from herself. it was time for the kiss, Ethan cupped Elena’s face with infuriating gentleness, his lips hovering over hers just long enough to make her heart hammer, for all the wrong reasons, he kissed her. Not deep, not passionate, just enough pressure to make it convincing. But she could already feel it, the control, the warning, the unrelenting power that emanated from him like a shadow.
As the applause roared around them, his breath ghosted over her ear.
“Welcome to your new life, Mrs. Blackwood,” he whispered, his voice dark, unyielding. “Try to keep up, it will be a long long torment.”
A flicker of something unreadable crossed his expression as he took her hand and led her down the aisle. For a split second, as he glimpsed the sadness clouding her eyes, something almost like regret flashed across his face, But no. He pushed it away, This was never about her. This was about his revenge And making sure every Sinclair suffered.
A NEW LIFE
It time was time for The wedding reception, indeed it was an extravagant display of wealth and status. Guests lined up to offer their well-wishes, their smiles fake, their words empty. Elena moved through them, forced to greet and pay her respects, her movements practiced, mechanical. She had done this her entire life, played the role she was given, never asked questions, never stepped out of line. today all she had to do was smile for the tabloids, she knew exactly how the headline will read tomorrow, WEDDING OF THE CENTURY, for a man she barely know, in all the ways she has dreamt of a wedding, none of them looked like this, who was this man? .
in the midst of all the clanking glasses, and merriment there was something that stood off, something gnawed at her as she glanced at Ethan. He had no guests in their wedding, not even a best man, she knew the wedding was rushed , but not to the point that no one here was a family, No one who mattered to him. Should she be worr
