My Boss Is My Husband

"Ellen? Where's Ellen?"

I immediately froze when my name was suddenly called. I blinked my eyes. Then, with my heart already racing, I slowly stood up. I raised my hand hesitantly.

"I'm here." The voice I produced sounded soft and somewhat hoarse. I hurriedly cleared my throat.

I felt awkward when everyone—I mean all my coworkers—looked at me. I adjusted my glasses before my gaze flicked forward, more precisely looking at a woman who was walking towards me with quick, steady, and confident steps.

I swallowed slightly. Is there something going on?

The woman was already standing in front of me with a probing look, her arms folded in front of her chest, making me both confused and scared.

I recognized her. Her name was Vivian, and she was one of my superiors. She had a higher position in this office than me, who worked as a regular employee. Vivian is the boss's secretary.

And by the way, why was Vivian looking for me? I was both shocked and dumbfounded. Had I made a big mistake? But what? I don't feel like I've made any mistakes toward her or the office I work in. My mind was all over the place. I was thinking too much. This wasn't good for me.

"Can I help you?" I asked when Vivian was near me. I wasn't very conspicuous in the office, and of course I would understand if Vivian didn't know me very well. I'm not an important person. After all, I rarely interacted or chatted with her either. Besides, I've only been working in this office for three months.

Vivian nodded. "Come on, you should come with me to the boss's room."

"What?" I responded instantly, surprised. I quickly shut my mouth when Vivian gave me a sharp look. I shook my head and tried to make things right. "What's wrong? Why do I have to come with you to the boss's room?" I asked cautiously.

"I don't know. The big boss wants to see you. I don't know what the reason is. Come quickly, you don't need to ask many questions. You'll find out later."

I'm dead. Of course, I had made a big mistake. Although I don't know what kind of trouble I've caused,  I'm so sure that I've broken something.

My gut suddenly shrank. I was terrified. I've never faced my boss directly. And now? I'm being asked to confront him. This is crazy and scary at the same time.

I walked after Vivian with slow steps. I clenched my fists tightly. I'll know in a moment.

When the door to my boss's office was opened wide. I rushed inside. Vivian, of course, was already ahead of me.

I swallowed again, for the umpteenth time.

"Boss, Ellen is already here, as you wanted," Vivian said politely. Her tone of voice instantly turned sweet and polite, unlike when she was talking to me earlier outside this room.

Vivian looked at me, then pulled my hand to stand beside her. I was drawn in easily.

My boss looked away from his laptop at me. I immediately panicked. I tried to calm myself down. His gaze was really deep. And d*mn it, I really felt intimidated. I can't be afraid. This matter must be dealt with immediately. I need to get out of here, then do my work as usual.

I opened my lips and said, "What are you looking for, boss? Do you need something?" I asked hesitantly. The intonation of the voice I produced was very discordant, shaky, and really unpleasant to hear. I felt embarrassed.

I also didn't know whether the question I asked just now was appropriate or not. But, hopefully, my boss would understand what I meant.

My boss kept staring at me. I became misbehaving. I couldn't stare at him for long. I had been trying to avert my eyes when I had the chance.

"Vivian, can you come out and leave me alone with Ellen?"

"I'm out of here?"

"Right, you didn't hear wrong. Go ahead."

Vivian looked at me for a moment before she waltzed away. I knew she was half-hearted about leaving, but this was our boss's direct request. Vivian has no right to refuse or argue with him. She started walking and closed the door.

Now, it was just me and my boss. Just the two of us. And I don't know why I'm here. Not yet.

"Ellen, please have a seat."

I followed his lead. He pointed to the chair in front of his desk. I went there, then sat down carefully and comfortably. I raised my head to look at my boss again. My heart started racing again. This was what was going to happen. I've been waiting with anxious expectation.

Biting my lip, I couldn't help myself anymore. "Did I make a mistake for you to call me here, boss?" The question that had been hanging on the tip of my tongue finally came out.

For only three seconds, I felt stupid for asking such a question, but it wasn't wrong of me to ask it, right? This question was very appropriate for me to ask.

My boss looked at me with his thick eyebrows almost interlocked. He leaned his broad back against the chair, which must have felt comfortable. His large, muscular arms were now folded.

"You think so?" he asked.

I nodded. "Yeah, of course, what else could it be?"

"Do you feel like you've made a mistake?"

I thought for a moment before giving him an answer. Then, I shook my head and replied, "I don't think so."

"That's not why I asked Vivian to call you here."

My gaze did not move from my boss's face. I now agree with all the women who work here. He is indeed very handsome. His face is really nice to look at. No wonder so many people like and crush on him. I haven't paid much attention to him so far. He looks charismatic, dashing, cool, and stunning.

Realizing that I had been praising and paying attention to my boss for too long, I felt that I had gone too far. I quickly looked away. I didn't want to stare at him for too long like this.

"I told you to come over to discuss something else with you."

I seemed to understand what was in his head. "I promise to try harder and work better in the future for this company. I will work hard."

"Is what's been on your mind since earlier about your contribution to this company?"

I was about to say something, but my boss had already struck first.

"It's not about that, I'm not going to discuss anything about your involvement in my office. Your work has been good, and so far it's been fine, there have been no obstacles whatsoever. Do you understand?"

My eyes blink slowly. "Then, what made you tell me to face you this time?"

He looked at me deeply. He didn't say anything right away. I waited with great curiosity. Our gazes have been locked together ever since.

"Ellen, I think we should get married."

I don't know my boss very well. An employee doesn't have to get along with their boss, right? Except for those who want to make faces. I knew that my boss was a handsome and well-established man, but I didn't know anything about him, especially when it came to his sense of humor.

So, I didn't know if my boss suddenly asking me to marry him was serious or a joke. And of course, the second option is more suitable.

My boss was playing a joke, which I didn't find funny at all. Not that I expected him to seriously ask me to marry him. No, I don't want that. I told you that I didn't know him at all, he was just my boss.

I stared at him for a long time. I noticed his facial expressions. He looked seriously at me. I don't know why my heart is beating so hard right now.
