Résumé
Mollie Butler thought she was just signing a business deal with the devil. Caleb Gill, the cold and untouchable CEO of Houghton Holdings, paid off her family's debt and tied Mollie into a loveless marriage. To Mollie, the rules were simple: she gave up her freedom, and in return, her brother's life was saved because Caleb was just an arrogant billionaire who liked control. But Mollie forgot that the devil never plays fair. "You know that anyone who breaks the rules has to be punished, right?" Caleb asked. He smirked slightly, a dark expression that made Mollie's eyes widen. "P-punished? What do you mean—" Before Mollie could finish her sentence, Caleb roughly crashed his lips onto hers again. Kissing her, devouring her as if he were a man running out of oxygen. His hand, which had been gripping Mollie's arm, slowly let go, giving her a brief moment of relief. But his next move surprised her again; those two large hands now grabbed and pressed against her body without any gentleness, so rushed as if he was afraid Mollie would disappear. Mollie struggled a little, feeling overwhelmed, but he deepened the kiss, letting his massive body press down and cage her without mercy. Behind the punishing kiss and his tyrannical attitude, Mollie finally realized a truth far more terrifying than being a prisoner. Caleb wasn't just controlling her life; he was hiding a deep abyss of past secrets. A bloody truth and dark manipulation that didn't just hurt and betray Mollie, but ultimately... tore apart and destroyed Caleb himself from the inside. In this flawless cage called marriage, Mollie had to choose. Run as far away as possible from the monster holding her captive, or save the broken man hiding behind the expensive suit.
Chapter 1 - Heartless Monster
The harsh smell of antiseptic and the freezing hospital air conditioning stung Mollie’s nose.
She stood at the surgical billing counter, staring blankly at the invoice. The number printed on the paper was absurd. One hundred and fifty million for Zach’s surgery deposit.
"You have until noon, Ms. Butler," the clerk behind the glass said. Her voice was flat, used to delivering bad news. "After that, we give the operating room to someone else."
Mollie swallowed hard. Her throat felt raw. "Just give me a little more time. I'm working on selling my house—"
Her phone buzzed heavily in her pocket. She pulled it out. It was a text from an unknown number, but she immediately recognized the format. The loan sharks.
[Time's up. Your father put the house deed up as collateral two years ago with compounding interest. You still owe us! Don't even try to sell it, or we'll teach your brother another lesson.]
Mollie’s blood ran cold.
The house was her only hope to save Zach, who was lying in critical condition in the ICU after last night's attack. And her father had already signed it away without telling her.
Her knees went weak. She had no money and no home. If she didn't pay the hospital by noon, the loan sharks wouldn't even have to finish the job. The hospital would let Zach die.
Suddenly, the computer at the billing desk beeped loudly. The clerk frowned. She stared at her monitor, then typed rapidly. Her eyes widened.
"Wait..." The clerk leaned closer to the screen. "This is... paid in full?"
Mollie blinked. "What?"
"The bill. All of it. Including the estimated post-op care through next month." The clerk looked at Mollie in disbelief. "It was just paid via corporate wire transfer."
Mollie's phone buzzed again. Another message from the loan sharks.
[Your dad's debt is cleared. Someone just bought your house deed for double the price.]
Mollie froze. Her brain refused to process the impossible situation. A massive amount of debt wiped out in seconds.
By who?
Then, she heard footsteps.
Heavy leather shoes hitting the hospital tiles with a steady, authoritative rhythm. The busy hallway suddenly felt suffocating. Nurses and passing patients instinctively stepped back against the walls, making way for the approaching threat.
Mollie turned around. The first thing she saw was two broad-shouldered men in black suits securing the end of the corridor like private security.
Then, a man stepped out from behind them.
He wore a perfectly tailored black suit that clung to his broad shoulders. His face featured sharp, cold angles and a clenched jaw.
A pair of steel-gray eyes locked directly onto hers. They were sharp and calculating, looking at her like a target he had been hunting from the shadows.
Mollie's survival instincts screamed. The man radiated absolute power.
He stopped just a few feet away. The scent of an expensive cologne completely overpowered the hospital bleach.
"Mollie Butler." His deep voice vibrated through the air. It wasn't a greeting. It was a claim.
Mollie straightened her spine, refusing to look pathetic even though her knees were shaking. Her breath hitched. "Caleb… Gill?”
Mollie held her breath.
The CEO of Houghton Holdings. She had heard his name in passing from her boss, Zain Ashford. Houghton Holdings was the investment giant that practically owned half the city.
What was the king of Houghton doing at the surgical billing desk of a low-end public hospital?
"I believe the two biggest problems in your life have just been solved, haven't they?" Caleb said. His tone was entirely devoid of emotion.
Mollie glanced at her phone, then back at the towering man in front of her. It didn't take a genius to figure it out. "You paid it? You cleared my dad's debt? Zach's medical bills?"
"I purchased an asset," Caleb corrected coldly.
He raised a hand slightly. The man in the black suit behind him, Declan, immediately stepped forward and handed Caleb a thick leather folder.
Caleb tossed the folder onto the billing counter next to her. The heavy thud made everyone nearby jump, including Mollie. Caleb didn't even blink.
"Open it."
Mollie stared at the folder like it was a landmine. With trembling hands, she flipped it open. Thick, legally stamped paper. It wasn't a hospital receipt. It was a Debt Transfer and Full Power of Attorney agreement. Her eyes scanned the dense paragraphs.
Caleb hadn't just paid off her father's debt; he had bought it directly from the loan sharks. He now held the deed to her house. And on the final page, a clause stated that in exchange for covering Zach's medical expenses, Mollie was handing over full authority over her and Zach's financial and personal decisions to the first party. Caleb Gill.
This wasn't charity. It was a trap.
Mollie slammed the folder back onto the counter, scattering the pages.
"You're out of your mind," she hissed, anger burning away her fear. "I don't even know you! You think you can just walk in here, pay off my bills, and buy me like a piece of property?!"
Caleb didn't react. His steel-gray eyes watched her with a blood-chilling calmness. He was completely unfazed by her outburst.
He took a step closer, erasing the distance between them. He leaned down, forcing Mollie to tilt her head up to meet his face, which was now only inches away.
"I could have let those loan sharks drag you out of your house today," Caleb whispered. His voice was low, but the threat cut through her like ice. "And I could let your brother die this afternoon because you missed the deposit deadline."
Mollie gasped. The air hitched in her throat. His words were brutal, stabbing her right in the chest without an ounce of mercy.
"So, choose wisely," he continued. His gaze dragged down her pale face, ruthlessly measuring her desperation.
Calleb reached into his suit pocket, pulled out a silver pen, and dropped it onto the contract.
"Sign it," he ordered, his eyes glinting darkly. "Or I call my bank right now and reverse the wire transfer. We'll see how long your brother's life support stays on."
Mollie glared at him, shaking with suppressed rage. She clenched her fists at her sides until her nails dug painfully into her palms.
Roughly, she snatched the silver pen and slashed her signature across the paper. When she was done, she slammed the pen back onto the counter with a loud thud.
"You're a heartless monster," Mollie spat, her eyes blazing as she challenged his stare.
Caleb looked down at the signature, then slowly brought his eyes back to hers. A dark, terrifying satisfaction flashed in his gray eyes. He picked up the folder and handed it back to Declan.
"You're welcome," Caleb replied with a faint, chilling smile. "I'll see you soon."
He didn't say goodbye. He simply turned and walked away, leaving Mollie standing frozen, breathing heavily, realizing she had just sold the rest of her life to the devil.
Chapter 2 - The Golden Boy
"Mollie..."
Mollie flinched, her head snapping up from her laptop screen.
Across the conference table, Kyle Houghton watched her with a worried crease between his brows. He wasn't just a guest; he was the Managing Director of Houghton Ventures, the massive investment firm bankrolling the bakery's entire expansion project. Dressed in a casual but expensive light gray suit, Kyle radiated a warm Golden Boy charm that felt completely out of place in the cold, ruthless corporate world. His light brown eyes studied her. Lately, Kyle’s gaze was always like that—lingering a second too long, searching a little too deep, and wrapped in an open warmth that only made Mollie squirm.
"Are you okay?" Kyle’s voice pulled her back to reality.
"I'm fine, Mr. Houghton," Mollie replied quickly, slipping her professional mask back into place. She clicked to the final slide on the screen. "That covers the entire marketing strategy for Sweetheart. Thank you for your time."
